In Denmark I think it must average 25, plus national holidays. Mrs. BM now gets 40 plus national holidays!

Another incentive to move to Italy or France. Not that there aren't enough good ones already.  :)

Hah.  No kidding.

I had relatives (both biological and in-laws) visiting from France and Switzerland this summer.  It almost seems like they all had enough time to do a leisurely mini-tour of America.  On the other hand, my poor workaholic parents have never set foot in Europe.  I keep asking them to take a vacation (even a brief one to go out-of-state) and they always say no...they need the money and they already work so hard.   :-/ :-/ :(

Two weeks of vacation in the USA? Can`t believe it! What about all those praised trade unions? They know that American vacations are the shortest, why don`t they fight for the right???

Because they think two weeks of vacation is normal. It's what we're brainwashed into believing. The whole work ethic thing. And that you're lazy or irresponsible if you take too much time off. It's ridiculous.

I've heard on a radio report once that some Americans are fearful of taking too much time off for vacations for fear of getting fired/replaced.  Somehow it seems more favorable to feign illness to miss work rather than actually saying you're going on a vacation.  Even if you want to miss a single day, you just lie and say you're sick.  I think Sandra is right, it really is the whole work ethic thing.
