Tell me which Let it be do you like? the old version or the new version? ;D I am planning to buy Let it be...Naked, but for those of you who like the old version tell me is let it be naked as good as the old one...or you don't recomment me buying it :)
-
Let It Be...Naked is better. The real sound of the Beatles!
-
BOTHno biggest difference opposite the album at that time
-
LIB. I like the strings of TLAWR and especially love the guitar solo in the song LIB. Plus, the dramatic cut-off to Get Back on Naked is so awful -- I definitely prefer Lennon's "I hope we passed the audition" remark a lot better :)
-
Definately the "Naked" version.
1. The talking in between songs, and "Dig it" and "Maggie Mae" are gone.
Therefore it's not as sloppy anymore.
2. Everyone knows Let It Be was supposed to sound like a live album, without any overdubs, but it ended up being a messy album with a few live sounding songs mixed with a few bombastic songs with a million additional musicians.
On "Naked" they all sound live, so it's more of a whole.
3. The sound of "Naked" is much cleaner, fresher and more up to date.
So I like "Naked" a lot better than the original.
Even though I must admit I love Phil Spector's arrangement for "The long and winding road"...
-
let it be naked i dont have the let it be
-
Hmmm I don't have "Naked" yet. :'( So I guess I'll go with what I know -- Let It Be.
-
Let it Be Naked.
Although this controversial re-issue may have attracted Anti-Mccartney slack, I feel the form and mood this album pushes foward symbolises the attitude and emotion that was felt in the 'dark' period...all those years ago.
The original is smothered by the vital ( and unnesessary) ingredient of lush string arrangements, a forceful touch from the Walt Disney-like Spector. This fantasy light hearted injection goes against the very principles of Let It be, emphasising the slap-up route the Beatles took..and creating a sore contradiction of character.
Enter Mccartney..
Depart Strings..
The harsh often brutally honest listen which is now heard on Naked brings across the cold sensation of the 'Let It be Sessions'..a remarkable insight, created merely from a wall of sound (minus a few bricks).
-
Er ... you do know how much the LIBN tracks were fiddled with, don't you? There's just as much messing about with the originals on LIBN as there was by Spector on LIB! It's just different fiddling.
There was a huge amount of nonsense around at the time of LIBN's release. Looks like it's still here in this little corner of the fabiverse.
-
Ok Maria, Ill speak in easy terms...just for you.
I like the Let it Be Naked 'fiddling'
that any better?
-
Ah, I was under the impression that you thought there was no fiddling on LIBN.
By the way, these words: Let it Be Naked.

were your words, weren't they?
Oh, I see.
-
Fiddling - To meddle or tamper.
Let It be Naked...has been tampered with to give....(my original response).
Hopefully, you will see.
-
naked.........what did you expect?
but the boots are better one called in a play any ways is far superior i think to anything on be thats be offically released
-
Is let it be naked that much different then let it be?
-
I love Let it Be just the way it is, but I haven't heard the Naked version so who knows. Maybe I'd like it better. But I doubt it. I have a hard time accepting changes!!

Loads of Beatles song from 1965-1969 had major fiddling.
LIBN is great, much better than that awful sounding original.

Gawd, that's a bit harsh, isn't it? I mean, AWFUL SOUNDING? I've Got A Feeling just uses a different take. Get Back sounds exactly the same but doesn't have that cool climax. I Me Mine is exactly the same. Two of Us sounds the same only you can hear the voices better (I actually don't like that).
The only three you can see that I think MIGHT sound "awful" are LIB, Long and Winding Road, and Across the Universe. And while the last two are debatable, LIB awful?!?!?! :(
-
Well, I must say I like both. The Naked is a bit that, more naked, where you can hear the songs moer clearly, but take into account that JOHN wanted it the other way, and that's why he chose Spector to fix and arrange the things. Of course, I think if he had listened to the naked "Across the Universe" he would have been more than pleased, but anyway, we'll never know what he would have thought...

That's your opinion, no big deal...
-
I think someone is full of it.......................
-
I knew this would happen.
I'm talking about the ancient mixes and the tape hiss thats apparently been given a whole track to itself. I'm in favour of a complete overhaul of the albums like the Yellow Submarine Songtrack. Lord those mixes sound sweet!
-
It's logical that as we go forward in time, the new technologies will better the tapes conditons... But we'll also lose the flavour, so to speak, of the old vynils and all that...

Not really... If you're a real fan you should have them both, but if you're just a casual fan just one of them will do...
-
Just thinking...the change of Vinyl to CD..although advancements were made...the Piracy of todays world is a real serious factor...
Wonder if the Music-Industry fat cats would want to go back...
-
Just listening first time to LIBN. Listening to Don't Let Me Down and it sounds great. I been brought up on the old version but this is great. Also the extra harmonies and ad libs on this album are really heart warming to hear. Got my thumbs up at the mo. Need 2 listen more for full analysis. Nice 1 MAcca!!!!!

So What do people reckon. Has Let it Be Naked faded into obscurity now and will consigned forever to oblivion after whatever accompanies the new Let it Be film comes out?
Did people like it better than the original in the first place? Do people still listen to it? While I liked the idea of getting closer to the Glyn Johns versions of the Let it Be sessions, Naked didn’t really do that and ended up sounding a bit sterile and sanitised. Lots of modern digital editing and mixing seemed to be done. So it became neither fish nor fowl. Not a true rendering of the sessions a la Glyn Johns’ nor Spectorish but with improvements. It even took the various chatter off. I don’t mind some of the versions on there but I can’t say it’s an album I go to at all.
Also this is a good excuse to bump a really old thread ;D
-
I never liked Naked. I think i'm just so used to the normal LIB that I prefer it. Naked was boring to my ears and shelved after only a listen or two and its never been pulled since.
-
Yeah that’s pretty much me too. Had a listen, didn’t make me want to replace my Let It Be CD and never really put it on again. I’m interested to see what accompanies the new movie when it eventually comes out though.
-
I don't play either album to be honest. I'm not too fond on either Let It Be or Naked.

Yeah, i'm with you Cor. I never play LIB at all.
-
I give it a listen on occasion. I never bought Naked because I have The Alternate Let It Be (Pear)...

I thought I was alone in this. Good to hear that I'm not!

Agree.
Naked just has bits missing.
I probably play every 6 months or so.
I in a minority that actually likes this album ;D
-
I don’t play LIb much either. But I rarely listen to any LP through now anyway. I’ve become a playlist guy ;D
-
I feel like such an outcast (not to be confused with an OutKast). ;D I can’t say that I listen to Naked now, or even the fully clothed version really, but there was a time that I did prefer it. I can’t remember much about the rest of it but I still love the Naked version of The Long and Winding Road. That little lyric change kind of hits home with me.
-
I like Spector's LIB. I don't like how all the informal stuff was removed from Paul's updated version. The original gives me more of the feeling of being there and listening in like a fly on the wall.

where have you been party2
-
Ditto for me on both: I much prefer LIB over Naked as a whole...
-
nimrod: I've been on sick leave. I'm still on it but now I'm here, too. I'm re-cooping! Being here is good therapy for me.
