Title: Best 80's Album
Post by: Rowdy on July 04, 2004, 04:40:08 PM
What is your favorite 80's studio album from Macca? Personally, I don't really find too much worthwhile in any of these releases, but if I have to choose, I'll go with Tug of War.

Tug of War - *** (out of *****)
Flowers in the Dirt - ***
Pipes of Peace - **
Give My Regards To Broad Street - **
Press to Play - *1/2
McCartney II - *

I really think Back to the Egg was his last great album until 97's Flaming Pie. His 80's stuff and Off the Ground seemed completely devoid of life to me.

Tug of War is the lesser of the evils here

Besides "Macca 2", they're all good, but its a toss up between "TOW" and "FITD". I'm feeling more like "Flowers" today though.

Flowers In The Dirt has one of my Macca favorites Figure of Eight so that album got my vote. This One and Put It There are also great songs as well.

I like "Flowers in the dirt" best of the 80s albums, because I liked "Put it there" and there was a real nice limited ed. import pressing of the lp.

I just voted for "Flowers in the dirt" beacuse it's the first solo album I disovered by Paul,. and I remember I was very little and in the clip of "My brave face" JOHN came out with those shorts he was wearing in that clip where they are on abeach with those old-fashioned costumes...

Flowers in the Dirt - *****  One of his best solo albums, one of my favorite cds by anyone

Tug of War - *** (The title song alone and Here today make it a good album, though a couple tracks are very dated and don't hold up well)

Press to Play - ** Overproduced, but I enjoy Stranglehold as a good intro rock song of sorts, Write Away as a decent pop song  and Only Love Remains is classic Paul ballad

Give My Regards To Broad Street - ** - the covers are ok, and but I really don't consider this to be an album in the traditional sense

Pipes of Peace - don't have it, never heard it beyond the single

McCartney II -  Don't have it, never heard it

Has to be Flowers in the Dirt, a great return to form from Macca, Pres to Play
would be my second fav. Broad Street is the worse!

To me, Tug of War. It was perfection.
Flowers in the Dirt was a bigger surprise, a big increase in Paul's material after the commercial dissapointment of Press to Play.

Tug of War is a great album but Ebony & Ivory lets it down by the end.  :-/

I know, but I think we're hating Ebony & Ivory too much. I mean, the other day I listened that song after a long time without listening to it. And I quite enjoyed it. I really like the percussion and handclaps of that song.
And... after all, it was such a huge success! You can't hate it being such a hit!  ;)

I could hate it just as much if it sold 100 million copies, or 100. The amount it sells doesn't make it sound any better to me. It doesn't make me like Mull Of Kintyre either.

An embarrasing low in his career, methinks.

I think Ebony & Ivory is not a bad song, nice melody,
but it just seems out of place on the album for me. :-/

Flowers in the Dirt. The Costello partnership produced some really intresting stuff. Pity "So Like Candy" wasn't on a Macca album, that's a great piece of pop.
