Hello Mairi
Being a hippie is more of a state of mind, more than dress and length of your hair today.
Even in the late 70s calling me and my friends hippies because we dressed different had long hair and listened to good music, i always thought it was a hint of jealousy
Because the way you dress is that your not blinded by magazines and t.v. Mairi you are your own person.
You`re one of the beatiful people.     :)

What you tend to find is that the favourite artists of the people calling you a hippie, are influenced by all your favourite stuff!! Now that's funny.

Wouldn't completely agree with The Beatles and The Stranglers. Certainly not The Small Faces, but each to their own.

Here's a few more:

Hawkwind - In Search Of Space
Gong - Radio Gnome Invisible Trilogy
Donovan - Cosmic Wheels
Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers
Pink Floyd - The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
Buffalo Springfield - Buffalo Springfield
Love - Forever Changes

I saw an entire CD of novelty songs about the Beatles in a CD store a while ago, it's called "Beatlemaniacs!!!"... I didn't buy it (yet), but I might do that soon... I'm a bit curious.

10. You Can't Do That - Nilsson (1967)  Listen Listen
11. Please Please Me (Take 1) - Link Wray & The Raymen (2002)  Listen Listen

17. Saint Paul - Terry Knight (1969)  Listen Listen

This was a big hit for an artist called Shane in New Zealand in 1969. I remember it well. It takes itself quite seriously, and is based on the Paul is dead rumours, and even has a monster Hey Jude-style fadeout. (I was 10 at the tiime and blissfully unaware of all this, but hits by NZ artists were few and far between so I remember it well. Kalculated Risk or Chapter anyone?)
Can't find the lyric on the net, but here's a nice picture of Shane:

Well, the Beach Boys recorded 5 Beatles covers, but no songs that mention the Beatles, for as far as I know...  :)

I got that Beatlemaniacs CD today... It's actually really not as bad as I expected, since it's a compilation of mostly really obscure novelty songs... Especially the Bulldogs, Rainbo en Mystery Tour songs are pretty good... And the Hi-Riders song is hilarious... It's a song about how much they hate the Beatles (weird, because they try really hard to sound like them) and how they're gonna 'stamp them out'... Haha... Tough luck, guys.
