Title: Thomas The Tank Engine
Post by: Marvin on July 20, 2011, 08:08:07 PM
Does anyone remember the Thomas the Tank Engine stories narrated by Ringo between 1984 and 1986? For me Ringo was the best Thomas narrator his voice just seemed to suit it what do you think? For those of you who have not seen or heard these stories click on the link below

I remember watching him as Mr Conductor, but I think that was in 1989 or so.

Boy, do I ever remember this! My son watched Thomas all the time when he was little. Ringo was indeed the best Mr. Conductor. I just had a hard time buying George Carlin in that role. I just couldn't disassociate him from the Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television bit I guess!

I remember there was this one older episode that was a Christmas show. I taped it and my kids watched that so many times-all year-that  I knew all the dialouge by heart! I miss those little kids but they are pretty cool adults so I guess I wouldn't go back.

Shining Time Station is based on The Railway Series by English author Rev. W. Awdry so it's most fitting to have Ringo as the narrator! I'm glad kids still watch this.

Heck yes they did!!  I watched it basically every day when I was a kid!  Growing up in a railway family it was kinda expected I'd watch it, then when Ringo and George Carlin were on it, it kinda gave the show some street cred in my house lol!

My son would have liked growing up in your family. He still loves trains and has been chasing them ever since I let him go off alone on his bike. Now he gets to do it in his truck.  ;D

Haha!!  There's something somewhat therapeutic about being around trains lol!  Like that one episode where they had to wake up Mr Conductor and he had to hear the train whistle lol!  (Yes I still remember some episodes haha)

I loved Thomas The Tank Engine when I was a youngster, I had a couple of tapes which I would regularly watch whilst eating boiled eggs out of two Thomas egg cups...

Baldwin and Carlin both were good too as narrators.

I didn't know Alec Baldwin took over after George Carlin. I guess we'd moved on by then.

At that point in his career/life it was to impress wifey Kim Bassinger.

quote from IMDB : "Baldwin's distinctive vocal talents then saw him voice US-aired episodes of the highly popular UK children's show "Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends" (1984)"

I don't think it worked too well!

No it didn't! Now Baldwin and Bassinger are divorced and the majority of the Baldwins (If not all of them) have been in and out of Rehab.
