I remember sitting on the grass at college playing guitar for a girl I liked a lot. I was too shy to tell her and anyway she was seeing someone else. After a while, I played and sang Catch The Wind this way for her. I was stunned by her reaction.
It is, after all, a powerful song.

For years I thought that was a Dylan song. It was only when I discovered YouTube and looked for it that I realized my error. It is a beautiful song. It was the first ringtone I ever paid money for! Even more recently I finally figured out this line in the lyrics: Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind. I thought his words were directed at someone who loved him back and that together they could do anything, even catch the wind. Amazing how one little line can change the whole meaning of a song.

Cryptic indeed. He's the King of Cryptic but that's what I like about him. His music makes me think. But what a sad story Edie Sedgwick's life was, and not just the part with Bob Dylan.

"Hurdy Gurdy Man" is my favorite Donovan's song, with a great Jimmy Page on guitar. I like all his hits from 1965 to 1970.

It might have been Edie Sedgwick, Kelley. I always figured Like A Rolling Stone and Positively 4th Street were about her. But it might have been Joan Baez too. "Your scarf it kept your mouth well hid." Joan Baez, like Bob Dylan wore a scarf frequently in those days.
She still does today...

Interesting. I think I did see a reference to that possibility. It was also mentioned that Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat was about Edie. I guess Bob's not telling.

Donovan has always been a greatest hits artist to me. I've tried a few of his albums and they never grabbed me for some reason.

It is a great song Todd. It reminds me of a very peaceful few days a had a couple of years ago, staying at my late brother-in-law's beautiful house in the woods. It was just me, my German Shepherd and a lot of music. I heard this song for the first time in years and it stood out for me.

I agree that 'Don' is an artist I listen to most for the 45s, but check out a song called 'Teas' which could easily have fitted in between the likes of 'Blackbird', 'Juila' or 'I Will' on the White Album. It's brilliant.

I did buy a few of his original albums. Hurdy Gurdy Man, A Gift from a Flower to a Garden. The production on a lot never appealed. A Gift was a double album with one side for adults and one for kids. I always preferred the kids album. It was nice simple folk.
Sometimes his live versions were more appealing than the studio too. Celeste sounded mannered and stilted in its original form. But a live version I heard from a late 60s concert was lovely.
