Ever heard any as good as the originals? Can't be many. The only one I know that comes close is CSN's cover of Blackbird.
I'm hearing a lot more now on Beatles-A-Rama!!! and they're just interesting.
-
It seems that the soundtrack of I Am Sam contains Beatlescovers that are quite good.

That's probably the best Beatles cover album.
-
Come Together, Helter Skelter & I'm Down by Aerosmith are three of the best Beatles covers.
-
U2's Helter Skelter is pretty good. check it out on the Rattle and Hum album

Joe Cockers With A Little Help is superb. Not better, cos he pretty much changes the genre, but as good as.

Absolutley agree with you there!
I've always thought that this song was SO radically different to The Beatles' version he could have re-written the lyrics and called it his own composition - no-one would have been any the wiser.

I forgot that one. The Woodstock version is fantastic, and on the same level as the original. I heard Pat Benatar's Helter Skelter on Beatles-A-Rama!!! the other day after many years, and that's good too.
-
In My Life- Judy Collins
Tell Me Why- April Wine
Let It Be- Joan Baez (!!!!)
-
Let It Be- Joan Baez (!!!!)
I can just hear Joan Baez singing Let It Be.
-
You're right about Joe Cocker's cover of With A Little Help From My Friends Kevin, especially his classic performance at Woodstock in 69 where the song rocks.
-
I don't like Joe Cocker's version. But that's probably just because I don't like Joe Cocker.
-
It was only recently that I learned its that it's Henry McCullough doing the backing vocals for Mr Cocker on that song.
-
John's favorite cover was of all "Ann Murray" In My Life?
-
Adrian Belew's version of I'm Down is brilliant. Great maniac guitar solo.
Soundtrack to I Am Sam is excellent.
Johnny Cash - In My Life is very moving.
-
Something by Joe Cocker on Beatles-A-Rama!!! and similar production to WALHFMF. Well done.
-
Just heard a cover of Goodbye by a guy called Robert Crosbie on Beates-A-Rama!! and his voice sounded right like Paul. Almost identical to the bootleg version too.
-
Day Tripper on the Jimi Hendrix Radio One album. Maybe better, in it's own way. Raucous.
-
Ive mentioned it before but peter frampton cover of "while my guitar gently weeps" is the best ive heard its brilliant! , and steve hillage cover of "its all too much" is very cosmic.
;)

I've heard that Hillage cover too and it's brilliant. I heard that one first. On that live album.

Saw him perform it live in the 70's at Kent University.

I was just reading the Wiki article on Fats Domino and it says he did great versions of Lady Madonna and other Beatles songs including "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey"?
Can this be true? Anybody heard the Fat Man who walked to New Orleans doing this song? It's got to be either horrible or great.
No Jimi Hendrix Day Tripper on the Uncut list? And I like Joe Cocker's With A little help from my Friends better than She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.
And Steve Earle's "I'm Looking Through You" is awesome.
Chet Atkins Picks the Beatles is a nice piece of work too. With liner notes by George Harrison.
Richie Havens "Here Comes the Sun."
Jerry Garcia Band (and Dead Boots) of "Dear Prudence"
Neil Young Imagine
bob Dylan Yesterday (bootleg with George)
Hey Jude Wilson Pickett (with Duane Allman)
Johnny Cash In My Life
-
And Steve Earle's "I'm Looking Through You" is awesome.
Johnny Cash In My Life
Forgot about the Steve Earle. It is excellent. And Cash's version of In My Life is one of the best Beatles covers I've ever heard.
The Uncut list is 50% predictable and 50% just damned wierd.
-
just heard in my life by cash today...that was great. the beatles would approve of such a cover
-
Back In The USSR by The Dead Kennedys is a pesonal favorite, though I doubt anyone else here likes it.
-
Tim Curry does some pretty kickass Beatles covers. I Will is one of them.
<3 I love that man.

Here you go guys, One of my favourite covers (I have a feeling this will appeal to Barry) ;D

(I have a feeling this will appeal to Barry) ;D
How did you know? ;)
They're very good!

Here's Paul's isolated bass...
The Beatles - I want you (she's so heavy) isolated bass & drums (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmtgYeJ5BBo#)
-

They're very good!
I love that cover, its very quirky :D he nails Pauls bass line (except the 'dive bombs')
I want You has always been in my top 10 Beatle songs, and John did a good job playing the lead guitar break.
-
Two covers I enjoy are on the same cd.

Dig A Pony by Denis Locorriere (he of Dr Hook)
Let It Be - Amorphous Adrogynous
-

Yeah! Paul is a bass virtuoso! I love these isolated bass mp4s because you can hear just how well he played bass guitar.
The "dive bombs" are what set his base line apart from others'.
-
Thats a Hofner 'club' bass she's playing.
-
Miley Cyrus is apparently recording a cover of Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds. :-X

Who's Miley Cyrus?
Trust me Barry, you don't want to know! Suffice it to say that if I ever do hear her cover I will immediately want to erase it from my mind with something nice like the Brasil '66 cover. I remember hearing that on the radio or someone's record when I was little. And I'm not offended by the other ones either. ;) I heard a local band do "I've Just Seen a Face" not too long ago. They were good but they did it with all gee-tars; not like these fellers.
-
Those there fellers were mighty good, Kelley, mighty good. An' jes' to show yer that bluegrass is 'preciated all over the world, lookee what these here fellers and young lady from Israel can do. Pay close attention to that feller with the fiddle...

But Kev...even John wore a checked shirt. His mom bought it for him, as you now know from your reading. Len Garry wore one too. I don't know who bought that. It's in the extended version. ;)

Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass A Taste of Honey Video 1966 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_KDPUTyDyQ#)

Far out video! I remember seeing it when it was first broadcast on TV. I couldn't believe it! I think The Beatles borrowed some concepts here for Magical Mystery Tour.
-
Wow! Another reminder of why I adore the 60s so much. Accept no substitute, that was fantastic.
The roving camera on the beach idea, where people pass by in front of the subject (the Courier and Aunt Jessie in MMT / the gaggle of reporters in CUIYC.....am I making sense?) was almost entirely lifted from the final scene of the (brilliant, seriously!) Dave Clark Five film 'Catch Us If You Can'.
This clip, like Herb himself, seems to completely embody the James Bond style/Sunday Colour Supplements of the day, I can't believe he would have gone down too well with the hippies.

I agree. There was nothing like the 60s.
Thinking about the Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass Taste Of Honey video a bit more, indeed The Beatles brought their instruments to various locales a year before in Help! We saw them on the beach doing Another Girl, on the Salisbury Plain doing I Need You and The Night Before, and they hauled a grand piano onto the ski slopes to do Ticket To Ride...

Johnny Cash - In My Life is very moving.
Agreed. Perfect choice that reflected the place he was at with his life at the time.
Also, The Beach Boys' Tell Me Why, I Should've Known Better and You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (from the Party album) deserve a mention. Nothing earth-shattering, but genuine, nice covers that show just how much The Beach Boys loved the songs of one of their main musical rivals.
