This game is like the Song vs. Song one, but this time you have to choose between two songs with the same name by two different artists. If you can, put a video for each song.
I'll start with this: "Bluebird" (Buffalo Springfield) vs. "Bluebird" (Paul McCartney)
Buffalo Springfield - Bluebird (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UyooPeFbkQ#)
Paul McCartney & Wings Bluebird (2010 Remastered). (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5RL4-AnBBY#)
-
Wings
The Dave Clark Five - Because (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59cHbXcJ1Pk#)
The Beatles, Because (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5qXVODCvC8#)
-
Beatles
"Somebody To Love" (Jefferson Airplane) vs. "Somebody To Love" (Queen)
somebody to love-jefferson airplane (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUbMWtUyIIE#)
Queen Somebody to Love (lyrics) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KI7XXX8j_Sg#)
-
Too hard to choose; I love both songs!
Let's Dance-Chris Montez-'62-Monogram 505.wmv (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JDNHqw9mlk#)
David Bowie - Let's Dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4d7Wp9kKjA#)
Sorry I couldn't find one without an ad. Do his pupils look weird in this? ???
-
I prefer the Chris Montez song, not a fan of David Bowie here.
"Run Run Run" (The Who) vs. "Run Run Run" (Velvet Underground)
Run Run Run - The Who (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Drm48bOirLw#)
The Velvet Underground- Run Run Run (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Bp-ihtgzdE#)
-
Velvet Underground
Creed - Rain (Video) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k3jxi4JhXA#ws)
The Beatles - Rain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdrGS__yg6Q#)
No contest here for me, even with Paul's tooth issue. ;D
-
America - I Need You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qk-7n1hdK3M#)
The Beatles- I Need You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8xzAy1jqMQ#)

The Liverpool Fabs v The Liverpool Farm....
All Together Now - The Beatles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sAKRpjmZj0#ws)
The Farm - All Together Now 2004 [Official Video] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3xrv5A41AU#ws)

Johnny Nash "Hold Me Tight" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYhRpbqe1Zg#)

Here's one that goes back even further...
Benny Goodman and His Orchestra - "Let's Dance" (10" 78 rpm record) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eC03b-30mE#)
David Bowie sustained an injury to his left eye in a fight at age 15. Although he underwent surgery to repair the damage, his left pupil remains permanently dilated (mydriasis).
-
Thanks for the participation, but most people didn't remember to choose between one of the two songs.
America - I Need You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qk-7n1hdK3M#)
The Beatles- I Need You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8xzAy1jqMQ#)
Several songs have that name really, apart from those two I remember "I Need You" by the Who (a Keith Moon's song!) and "I Need You" by the Kinks.
-

Johnny Nash "Hold Me Tight" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYhRpbqe1Zg#)
Hold me tight-The Beatles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hf3yL7Gixvg#)
I choose the Beatles song, though it may be one of the worse Paul's songs with the Beatles.
"The End" (The Beatles) vs. "The End" (The Doors)
The Beatles:The End (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5ddZU5Ipqg#)

Though not a different song, The Great Society's 1965 live version of Somebody To Love remains my favorite...
Great Society & Grace Slick (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SB11giesKc#)
Way better than Jefferson Airplane!

I still prefer the acid rocker take by Jefferson Airplane, but that original version is interesting.

I choose the Association song, an overlooked band of the 60's. Love several songs by them, great harmonies.
"We're Not Gonna Take It" (The Who) vs. "We're Not Gonna Take It" (Twisted Sister)
The WHO We're not gonna take it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Hj6-voLwB8#normal)

Oh, sorry to read that, but the music is still there and you could get again all the favourite records you lost with time.
I'm working on that! Now back to the game...
Radiohead - I Will (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euzLGUmb2MM#normal)
The Beatles--I Will (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8muJIOznsg#normal)
Another easy choice for me! ;)
-
Both nice tunes, but I choose Paul's song.
The Kinks - Brainwashed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUtw5lNoTr0#)
"Brainwashed" - George Harrison (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQ8pjXxNym4#)
-
I feel like a traitor but I have to say The Kinks.
Here again my loyalty wavers:
America - I Need You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qk-7n1hdK3M#)
The Beatles I Need You (2009 Stereo Remaster) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R27Gb9JX2FM#ws)

I don't know, George's voice just sounded kind of odd to me.

Huey Lewis And The News - Power Of Love - Back To The Future OST with LYRICS HD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjZiXlP4_fc#ws)
I choose the Frankie Goes To Hollywood song.
The Rolling Stones - Think (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZMc4fz7z5U#)
Aretha Franklin - Think (Freedom) - official music version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc0bmBRyxK4#)
-
No disr-e-s-p-e-c-t to the Queen of Soul but I rather like the Stones song better.
Here are two songs that are as different as can be...
Crosby, Still, Nash & Young - Our House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUADeRYIwW0#)
Madness - Our House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwIe_sjKeAY#)
-
I love the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and the Hollies, so I obviously prefer the CSNY song!
These two songs have virtually the same name:
The Who - I Can't Explain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3h--K5928M#)
Love - 02 - Cant Explain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJusaegHMfk#ws)
-
"Can't Explain" is my favorite Who song and just one of my overall favorite songs. It's a quintessential 60's song if ever there was one! So I pick The Who. ;)
Sir Paul...
Another Day-Paul McCartney 69th birthday! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb6GP_6BOfo#)
and his protege
James Taylor Another Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In8b1nOiGaw#)
-
I love "I Can't Explain" too. You may be right about it being a quintessential 60's song, since the Nazz borrowed its intro!
The Nazz Open My Eyes (HQ) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erC9qkaOHnk#ws)
As for the game, I choose the James Taylor song this time.
The Zombies - Woman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uEcmiwEx_Y#)
John Lennon Woman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O8s2kg8ufc#)
-
the Nazz borrowed its intro!
I forgot all about that song! Thanks for reminding me; it's pretty cool. Now I have to come up with something else for the game. ;)
-
I guess it's fortuitous that I decided to listen to "After the Goldrush" tonight. :)
Neil Young...
Neil Young - Tell Me Why [ Original Radio Airplay Version ] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xTeJ0XdEDc#)
or The Beatles?
The Beatles - "Tell Me Why" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmtaw0fr0xI#)
Oh, and I prefer John Lennon's "Woman". His song, not his actual woman. ;D

No, I can't choose a favorite. I consider both songs great for different personal reasons. The Beatles" song is fun, but Neil Young's song has significant meaning considering the time it was written. I'll defer to someone else to make a choice.
-

I thought that might be a little challenging.
-
Neil's song surely has more merits, and the Beatles' song is not one of the best from A Hard Day's Night, but somehow I still like it.
The Beach Boys - Here Today (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0XwbE8Yn7s#)
Paul McCartney - here today (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX4jwSvRA_U#)
The last one is from Paul's last concert here in Argentina. ;)
-
It was really tempting to say The Beach Boys because I love "Pet Sounds" and I am ashamed to say I was not familiar with Paul's song. After a closer look though I have to choose Paul's very touching "Here Today". This video sealed the deal:
Paul McCartney/John Lennon - Here Today (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjwnWU6OsaI#)
The long...
The Doors - The End (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGXeXm0uMDo#)
and the short of the end.

Actually I've already posted those two songs, and you chose the Beatles' one! :)
For me, it's hard to choose, both are classic moments in Rock history. Maybe the Beatles' track has the edge, because of those brilliant solos and the cosmic final lyric.
Rolling Stones - Good Times (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9nB4jQMd2Q#)
Love - 04 - Good Times (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SM8IL11xZv0#ws)

-
In the matter of The Rolling Stones "Good Times" vs Love's "Good Times" I rule in favor of The Stones. It's a nice cover of the Sam Cooke song.
Love does do a neat little ending though.
Shout! - The Isley Brothers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL9xOLpwI0I#)
TEARS FOR FEARS - SHOUT (ORIGINAL) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54IN3URGuM8#)

Pretty Things - I See You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5PbT6uZwbE#)
-
I had kind of a tough time with this one but the ending of the Pretty Things version about did me in so it's The Byrds for me. ;)

Olivia Newton-John Magic 1980 On The midnight Special (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7WPwH8Rd6g#)
-
I didn't know both songs. I prefer the Olivia Newton's "Magic".
Don't Bring Me Down - The Animals (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FZU4JVOmro#)
Dont Bring Me Down - Electric Light Orchestra (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RJPaj97H24#)

ELO's song reminds me of junior high school dances so that could get the nostalgia vote but since I'm all grown up now I prefer The Animals.

Kind of a rebel there, aren't you? ;) Let's see...I'll go with the Stones on this one.
Here are two songs that are so different it's crazy...
Patsy Cline - Crazy (Original Stereo) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EG2VwuMY7CA#)
Gnarls Barkley - Crazy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bd2B6SjMh_w#noexternalembed)

I was wondering what you'd think of Patsy Cline! I am not a big fan of country music especially newer music, but I love her. Now I must think of two more songs to post. I am not as quick as you are!

I'm not a fan of country music either, but lately I was digging some early Country Rock albums from the Flying Burrito Brothers and Poco.
-
Just a note about Crazy as performed by Patsy Cline. It was a crossover hit for her in 1961. Sure, it was country alright as Willie Nelson wrote it...
Willie Nelson-Crazy album 1961 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01fZukDdM14#)
But what a hit for Linda Ronstadt and others...
Linda Ronstadt - Crazy (1976) Offenbach, Germany (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h41_f9IyIU#ws)
Norah Jones - Crazy - live (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzQyzZBMQ8M#)

By the way, Norah Jones is Ravi Shankar's daughter.

I saw that in the comments below her video that you posted. I thought the person who wrote that was making it up until I googled and found out it was true. ;D

I've just recently discoverd that I really like Gram Parsons. I have a DVD, "Gram Parsons: Fallen Angel" to watch but it got bumped by George. :)

I have to go with the United States of America's song. It was far out!

You know Gran Parsons was with the Byrds during a brief time and recorded Sweetheart Of The Rodeo in 1968, considered as the first true Country Rock album. I must say that I'm not a fan of that record (though I'm a huge fan of the Byrds), but I dig his work with the Flying Burrito Brothers, especially their album The Gilded Palace Of Sin (1969).
About the game, I cannot listen to the songs here at work, I'll do it at home.
-
^^^
I've mostly listened to his duets with Emmylou Harris but I did know he was with the Byrds for a bit. His other work is on my ever-growing list of things to check out. :)

DON'T LET THE SUN CATCH YOU CRYING (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49c7WeFTay0#)
I'm a rocker, but I dig Jazz, and I prefer the Ray Charles song.
Two songs about "my room" in different languages...

Hi BeatlesForever, thanks for playing. I just tell you that the idea is to put two different songs with the same name, and not two different versions of the same song. Take care.

Hi Hombre_de_ningun_lugar! Thanks for the info, I thought that you had to put together two different versions of the same song. I'll do better next time, take care.

That's alright John. You just have to choose between the songs posted by the previous person and post two new songs with the same name so that the next person can choose. It will be great if you play as well. Have a great time.
-
I'll do better next time
I hope so or else we'll have to send you home from this game show with just a year's supply of Turtle Wax! ;)

Two songs about "my room" in different languages...
In My Room - The Beach Boys
Vivencia-Mi Cuarto
While I enjoyed being introduced to "the Latino equivalent of Simon and Garfunkel" (thank you Google), I have to pick The Beach Boys. Those harmonies just melt me.
My cousin posted this one on Facebook. I never heard this version before....
Ray LaMontagne - Let It Be Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LWpw3CMCEg#)
I was expecting this version (or one like it)...
George Harrison - Let It Be Me (Living In The Material World Bonus Tracks)) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vAWqBiiYWo#)
-
Okay, I'm going to have another go at this so here I go.

Better, better. But you still have to say which "Let It Be Me" you liked best. Keep trying!

Now, Zombies vs. Moby Grape.
The Zombies - Changes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ar01WGf0pUE#)
Moby Grape - 11 - Changes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZ4exn7mGzY#ws)
-
The Zombies song was definitely interesting but I really like Moby Grape's song best. They are a band I've heard of but never heard. I wasn't surprised when I googled them to see that they were from San Francisco. I thought I detected Jefferson Airplane-like moments in this song.
One from someone who had the word love in many, many of his songs...
Cliff Richard - I Love You (w/lyrics) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWmOAiyFTFY#)
And one from a one-hit wonder band who covered The Zombies...
People - I LOVE YOU (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xO5rKF2w_ro#)
I bet I could guess what Hombre would pick. ;D

Yes, Moby Grape were part of the San Francisco sound as Jefferson Airplane. Actually one of the guitarists and main songwriters of the group was Skip Spence, who was the drummer in the Airplane's debut album.

the Airplane's debut album.
And what a great album it is. ;)

I knew it!

Yes! Did you finally get it?
Yes, I actually got it quite soon after we talked about it. It was "Tommy" that took me a while to get. It's even better than I remembered. I'm getting there with replacing the albums but I keep finding new things to want. :)

I think Gloria Estafan's Bad Boy is better than the other two. ha2ha

That's okay; I just have to pick on you once in a while. And I'm glad that something from the 80's appeals to you. I think you mentioned this song before so I'm not surprised. ;)

Hey! I remember you. ;) It's good to see you back with us.
This was tough but I'll go with Poco. I like the way they started out very country, then shifted away a bit then back to the country sound. I didn't know they went back so far. I think of them from the 70's with "Crazy Love".
Now, in honor of The Rutles' special day..."Another Day"
The Rutles: Another Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWoLvZmJpyk#)
This one is from Dirk McQuickly and his post-Rutles band The Punk Floyd. No, just kidding, it's that other guy; what was his name again? He was in a band that tried to be as big as The Rutles. ;D

Interesting song that of the Rutles. I'll vote for them there.

Even though I really like John Sebastian this particular song didn't do much for me. Pink Floyd's "Money" is really the only one of their songs that I like so I should pick that but, predictably, I'm going with The Beatles.
Just to prove that I am not totally stuck on the Fabs I won't offer up their version of this song but rather the original "Words of Love".
Buddy Holly

Holiday - The Kinks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsP6ntrIYIU#ws)
Easy choice. 'Holiday' is easily one of my favourite Kinks songs. Just an incredibly pleasant melody and fine lyrics. Love Ray's funny voice at the beginning, too. Great tune from the forgotten masterpiece, 'Muswell Hillbillies'.
"Holiday, oh what a lovely day today,
I think I'll get down on my little ol' knees and pray, thank you Lord,
Thank heaven for this holiday..." :)
But The Bee Gees song is okay, too.

Darn it! Those are both great songs. I like how Laura Branigan's Gloria was used in the ice skating scene in Flashdance. But I like Van Morrison and Them's Gloria just a bit better. At the time of its release, I liked The Animals and I actually thought they were singing it. That's AM radio for ya!
But I want to give Laura Branigan a second chance. She deserves it...

Wow, I've neglected my favorite game for so long that the Who video isn't even on YouTube anymore! I found it in another one though and now I have a new Who song that I like. Paul's wasn't as much fun. :)
I found three different songs that share this title but eliminated poor Mary Wells right off the bat. That leaves...

Rolling Stones - I'm Free (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLppKDlcz-g#)
This is an easy one for me. I really love The Who's version. In fact I was just listening to it earlier. But "Eight Days a Week" is a good song too. :)
Now...two songs so different its hard to believe they have the same name:
Neil Sedaka - Stairway to Heaven (1960) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_9j8jlCwfc#)
or
Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven (Studio Version) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7JGrpYSiCY#)

Not a fan of Led Zeppelin and all their pompous music. Besides, "Stairway To Heaven" is a rip off of Spirit's "Taurus". Neil Sedaka's song is nice and has the simplicity of the early days, I choose his tune.

I've never heard either before but I was expecting to pick the Spoonful because, well, I just love John Sebastian but Ringo's song is very sweet and I do like it better so I'll pick that. ;) And I see what you mean about Spirit's song. Another new one to me. That's what I like about this forum; I've learned a lot here!

Hi Kelley, I was missing this game! That Ringo's song was written by Paul McCartney, if I'm not wrong.
Nice tune that from Sinatra & Basie, but I'm a rocker, you know, so Young wins.

LOL Looks like you were channeling John Lennon there! I don't know much about Tom Waits so I Googled while I listened and read this:
Waits has a distinctive voice, described by critic Daniel Durchholz as sounding "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car." Be that as it may, I like his poignant song, but I like Jefferson Airplane's better. I just plain like Jefferson Airplane! I was surprised to see that this Strawberry Fields-like video aired on a Perry Como special. I don't remember seeing cool stuff like that when my dad made us watch them! (He worked for a company that was one of Perry Como's sponsors.)
Now I almost embarrassed myself by repeating one you already did but I decided that changing Buddy Holly to The Beatles made it okay:
Words of love you whisper soft and true vs Words of love so soft and tender:

I don't know much about Tom Waits either, but I had recently listened to that nice tune that is named like one of my favorite Jefferson Airplane songs, so I used it for the game. By the way, very good comparison that you made with the video of "Strawberry Fields Forever".
"Words Of Love" is one of my favorite Beatles covers, so it wins. But I've always enjoyed that song by the Mamas & the Papas.

Yes, it is! I've always thought that "Martha" has an Indian sound, because of the sound of the acoustic guitars and especially the strange electric guitar solo. Also the bizarre flute gives the song a nice touch.
Actually I think that the whole After Bathing At Baxter's album is usually misunderstood, but that's not a surprise because it's the most experimental album of an experimental band like Jefferson Airplane.

Nice analysis! The album seemed less bizarre to me as it went on but after the second track anything would seem normal! I was actually quite surprised to learn that it predated the White Album because that track sure sounds like it was influenced by Revolution 9. I like the way it ends: "No man is an island...he's a peninsula!" I've got to really listen to it again, when I can sit down and give it my full attention.
-

Don't Go Away - The Zombies
Oasis - Don't Go Away
I'm not one for scary things but I'd take the Zombies over Oasis any day!
I'm going to take liberties here with the titles and put the Dells up against the Four Seasons:
The Dells: Oh, What a Night
http://youtu.be/Z1ozQT8yQXA (http://youtu.be/Z1ozQT8yQXA)
The Four Seasons: December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)
http://youtu.be/nDxhugRKZ8g (http://youtu.be/nDxhugRKZ8g)

I vote for the Dells' song, sounds more natural, I guess because it's an older recording.

So even though they woke up I have to go with Dylan. His song really makes me laugh, especially that last verse.
Bobby Darin wrote the song "I'll be There" that Gerry and the Pacemakers recorded, but I'm offering up their version since we're commemorating the British Invasion. It's up against the Motown incarnation of that title by the Jackson Five.

Ohh ok I vote for The Kinks one, mainly because Ive been hearing it for a long long time, The JA one for me is a bit down, I like it but prefer The Kinks.

Thanks again Kevin.
I enjoyed the Barclay James Harvest's song, it has interesting sound and tempo changes, and it includes good harmonies. But I can't restrain myself from voting for one of the best songs from my very favorite album.
The next one is like David vs. Goliath.

And it looks like no one voted on the Sunday Bloody Sunday one. I'll give this to U2. This goes back to when I liked U2. The Lennon song never grabbed me.

In my opinion, Ringo's camera was the best one. ;)
I remember when I was about 12 and listened to Roxette, as many kids of my age did around those days in the early 90's. But when I got older, I started to prefer older music, so much that I even fell in love with Zombies!

Hey Kelley! That must've been right up your alley in 1972, huh?

I was actually expecting you to say, "Who's The Sweet?" but then you came up with that version I never knew about. Nice! But I probably wouldn't have preferred that until 11th grade in 1979. :)

Interesting. It's a shame, though, that even with five years of German class I still couldn't translate all of those lyrics. I feel that I should give back the Foreign Language Award I got at graduation!

Two happy songs. The one by Stonewall Jackson has good deep harmonies to make a contrast; but the other by ABBA is excessively happy to me. Thus, I vote for the song from 1959.
