OK, time to bite down and just do it...

1. 'Lovely Rita' - So glad to see others putting this one forward. Upon its release I considered it banal. What did I know?

2. 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)' - As brief as it is, it rocks the house down. I would've loved a full album like that.

3. 'A Day In The Life' - Overly praised in general, I think, but you've got to give it up for its originality and emotional impact.

Least Fave: 'Good Morning, Good Morning' - Overly maligned in my opinion (great guitar solo in there), but the weakest track on the album nonetheless.

Ow. My brain hurts.

Can you check whether we feel this statement is true?

Quote
Martin is perhaps best known for his work on "Sgt. Pepper" 40 years ago. The album, like other Beatle records, was arranged to have the best songs on the first side to better grab an audience and boost sales, writes Martin in "With a Little Help From My Friends: The Making of Sgt. Pepper,"

I've never heard that before. I must have seen countless interviews with Martin on the subject of Sgt. Pepper, and never heard him say anything of the kind. Where did you get the quote?

Opening strong makes sense. And in the days of vinyl there were a few albums (not just by The Beatles) whose side 2 rarely saw the light of day. I think it would have been a bit of an industry given, rather than some strategy engineered by Mr Martin.

Most albums have their best stuff at the beginning, with a couple of good songs near the end just to  reclaim your attention. Sgt. Pepper's no different. I've still never heard anyone admit that they did it though.

It says he wrote it in 'With A Little Help From My Friends: The Making Of Sgt Pepper'. I wondered whether this forum is voting for more a-side songs plus the strong closer on side b. Looking at the Beatles albums up to Sgt Pepper, it does not always make sense.
Please Please Me: better songs on the a-side? That's arguable. True that side b has a bang at the end.
With The Beatles: slightly better a-side imo. Money is supposed to be the album's Twist And Shout.
A Hard Day's Night: a-side is songs from the film. In general better than the ones on the b-side. Last song is I'll Be Back. Good one.
Beatles For Sale: strong start, with No Reply, I'm A Loser, Baby's In Black and (although I don't like it) Rock And Roll Music. Side b is not as good with songs such as Honey Don't. And the closer is the weakest track on the album imo.
Help!: a-side is definately better. Dizzy Miss Lizzy is supposed to be the rocker at the end.
Rubber Soul: which side is better? Really don't know. Run For Your Life is not the best closer.
Revolver: maybe the a-side is better in balance, but both sides are quite good. Tomorrow Never Knows certainly leaves an impression as the b-side closer.

At the risk of coming over all nerdy - of the 21 songs that have so far won through to the 2nd phase, 16 have been on side 1 of their respective albums. Receiving 74% of the vote.

I'm obviously far too butch to understand this nerdy-talk. I'm not able to equate 16/42 and 74%.

I know this is a bit far ahead, but can we disqualify Rev 9 as "worst" for the White Album? It was never intended to be compared to a song, and there are some tracks that were supposed to be songs that are so much more deserving of our derision.
