Title: My band website/myspace etc
Post by: An Apple Beatle on July 26, 2004, 01:46:23 PM
Hi all, sorry to offend anyone in a spammy way. Thought I'd share the set-list I'm gonna perform this Sat....Can't f*ing wait!!! Could be a one off gig, who knows? Hopefully I can post up a pic after sat. I have kinda tried to go chronological but always get mixed up with the singles etc. If anyone would want to correct, please feel free. Please note that Sgt. Peppers is out of order for 1st song impact effect. Lol. PLease add any suggestions for maybe future gigs. We've basically gone for what the 4 of us could get together with the best vibe. Dream come true putting this together.

A Hard Days Night
You Can't Do That
Can't Buy Me Love

Dr. Robert
Helter Skelter
I've Got A Feeling
Come Together
Don't Let Me Down

Abbey Rd,  (Mean Mr. Mustard - The End)

Hey Jude.

My beard is now nearly as thick as 'Let it Be' Macca and i can't wait to get the mystery tour type tank-top on..........PLay On!!!!!!!!

My book of 100 song lyrics is available from Publish America.

SAVE THE PLANET  http://jimcolyer.com/@tracks/20/lofi.mp3
LOVE ME JUST A LITTLE  http://jimcolyer.com/@tracks/7/lofi.mp3
A MAN IS A MAN  http://jimcolyer.com/@tracks/4/lofi.mp3

SAVE THE PLANET

We're floating on a grain of sand in the vastness of space
If future generations are going to inherit this place
We've got to Save The Planet
Do something while there's still time
Save The Planet
This earth is yours and mine

The tropical rainforest is disappearing more everyday
We'll never replace it, we'd better not burn it away
Save The Planet
The wonders of nature are free
Save The Planet
Have you ever planted a tree?

If the skies are blue
And the oceans too
Isn't this a better home for me and you?
If the air is clean
And the land is green
Wouldn't you like to be part of this lovely scene?

I'm thinking of the animals that once roamed the African plain
Their numbers have dwindled, pretty soon none will remain
Save The Planet
Do something while there's still time
Save The Planet
This earth is yours and mine
Save The Planet
The wonders of nature are free
Save The Planet
Have you ever planted a tree?

Save The Planet
Save The Planet
Save The Planet
Save The Planet

LOVE ME JUST A LITTLE

The lights go down
Time to go home
I face the night
All alone

Love Me Just A Little
Hold me in the darkness
The night can be so lonely
Love Me Just A Little

Lying here
Safe in your arms
I feel alright
I'll be strong

Love Me Just A Little
Hold me in the darkness
The night can be so lonely
Love Me Just A Little

The morning sun!
It's another day!
Another day!

Love Me Just A Little
Hold me in the darkness
The night can be so lonely
Love Me Just A Little
The night can be so lonely
Love Me Just A Little

A MAN IS A MAN

When we're out on the town
He's in his tight bluejeans
Women give him the eye
As they pass by
Once in awhile
He might return their looks
But I understand
A Man Is A Man

Sometimes he seems
A million miles away
Talking sports to the guys
On a long Saturday
And he might mention
An old romance
Well, nobody's perfect
A Man Is A Man

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do
That's okay if he takes care of you
A man's gotta be what a man's gotta be
But he's better save his last dance for me

He's gotta take care of me
When I need a friend
Stand by me
Until the end
He's gotta be there at night
When the lights go down
Love me like nobody can
A Man Is A Man

I had a listen to these Dutch rockers. I must say after one listen that the songs sound quite alike. The sound reminds me of the late 70's... If that's what you want to sound like (I would not mind), it is a great effort. I'm not too keen on the singer's way of singing, but that's a personal opinion and I guess it's part of the deal.

That's funny, several people already mentioned that we sound like certain 70s bands, but except for the Ramones there really isn't any 70s band that I would call a major influence. Most of our influences are from the mid to late 90s... Bands like Bouncing Souls, H2O, Grey Area, Face To Face...

The songs kinda do sounds alike I guess... I'd say the album is pretty diverse, but we thought it wouldn't be really fair to put songs online that don't sound like anything else on the album. That might give a wrong impression.

Thanks for checking them out.

Thanks for the comments so far, it's always good to hear people's opinions, no matter if they're positive, negative or somewhere in between... As long as it's respectful.

We're going back to the studio within a few weeks for the final mixing and mastering, but there's still one thing we're not sure about: should we keep the reggae part at the end of "Radio" or not? What do you guys think?

Howdy folks.

I have been studying music technology for a few years now. One thing I really enjoy doing is recreating some of my favourite songs. Sometimes I like to get as close to the original as I can and sometimes I put my own thing in with it.

The other day I decided to try Imagine by Lennon. Now because it was recorded with modern gear, etc, it doesn't really sound anything like the original, but I wasn't aiming for that anyway. The drums on this version are way too loud and sharp. Unfortunately I deleted the multitrack so I can't do another mixdown! I also added a quite over-the-top choir section.

It is mainly to test myself and my ears. I think it sounds nice. But of course, it doesn't have the warmth the original does. Or vocals as I cannot sing!

Remember that MySpace reduces the sound quality to save on bandwidth or something, so if anyone wants a high-quality copy then just message me. I

'm not tooting my own horn, but I thought I'd find people here who'd appreciate this. I'd like if you could tell me what you think? Any mistakes, etc? It's 3rd from the top.

Cheers guys.

Post by: The End on March 31, 2007, 03:17:38 PM
The piano arrangement is spot on! An acoustic guitar would sound good in this version too. Shame you can't drop the drums completely I think it detracts from the overall effect. Great effort though - do you have any other examples of famous tracks you have re-recorded?
Title: Re: My band website/myspace etc
Post by: Revolution on March 31, 2007, 11:06:10 PM
Are the drums  programmed? They sound electronic,to me. Piano is Exact!  :D
Title: Re: My band website/myspace etc
Post by: thefadedline on April 01, 2007, 06:41:52 PM
Hi, thanks for all the comments!

The End - I really wish I didn't delete the multitrack. It's a bad habit I have developed to save space. But more often than not, I delete a multitrack and then later I find something I don't like in the track and it's too late! I may do another version if I find the time :)

I also have a version of Let it Be I recorded a long time ago... maybe 2 years ago, but I'm very unhappy with it. I did it when I only just learned of recording and mixing, etc, so I feel now I can do a lot better, but I may put it online sometime.

Revolution - Yeah, they are programmed, but they are sampled from a drumkit I use in college. I recorded each drum and I just used a sampler at home for the arrangement.

Oh and does anyone know where I could find some vocals? Would anyone want to record some for me? :P

has nothing to do with the beatles, really.
they are the biggest inspiration of my life as it was like the only music i did listen to between ages 13-19.
but anyway, here's me and my gf's indiepop-duo.
we released our first record in 2005 on the popkonst recordings cd-r-label, and just recently the italian cassette label best kept secret released our first recording and our second ep on cassette.
have a listen, some of you lo-fi spirits may like some of it.

The Beatles are undoubtedly my greatest influence. I'm trying to recreate their early melodies. Let me know if and to what extent it sucks.

Hi Neels -

Great tune, congratulations!!

I try to do some of this stuff too, so I know how much work it takes to get to that point, fantastic job! I generally like it if someone will make a constructive comment, and you asked, so the only observation like that I would make is that the volume of the vocals could use some levelling off. Sometimes they are much louder/softer than other times, and it can be a bit hard to understand some of the words sometimes.

Have you run your vocals through a compressor ?

Keep up the great work!
Title: Re: My band website/myspace etc
Post by: on January 11, 2008, 12:32:15 AM
Thanks for your responses. Yeah, I noticed the vocals needed some leveling too. One thing about the Beatles' harmonies I've noticed is that even though on so many tracks they would have outstanding backup vocal harmonies, they at times would be buried (for lack of a better term) beneath the rest of the music. I think the general consensus is that harmonies should be just that -- complimentary. Otherwise the listener has no way to gauge what the true melody of the track is.
Alexis, do you make music too? I'd love to hear something you've written. Again thanks for your responses. Rock on!

I'm not really sure! I think it's got to do with the vocals, and guitar sound. Dutchmen singing in English always remind me of early 70's Dutch prog, like Kayak, and someone else who's name escapes me. I don't me you sound like them, just that it reminds me.

Hello everyone, my name's Tony and I'm a beatles fan (sounds like an AA meeting). I'm happy that I found this board because the others that I saw were terrible (i.e. who's the hottest beatle? etc.). This section in particular interests me because I'm trying my hand at writing my own songs, something that I was driven to do after reading Bob Spitz Biography of the Beatles. Anyway, if any of you want to check out my stuff my myspace is www.myspace.com/tonyhunter27. I look forward to hearing all of your music as well.

Noticed a few similar style threads round here, so I have merged into 1 place to share opinion and plug your gigs etc. :)

The links below is what i get up to. The Chancers is my main thing though and I particularly enjoy playing in the Apple Beatles.

Hi guys, I just posted a new song on myspace if anybody wants to check it out. It's called "Nearly" and I've had it on the shelf for some time but just dusted it off and recorded it last night. My singing could be better so I apologize but it's kind of a tough melody to sing at times. Hope you like it.

It was the best one yet. All You Need Is Love & Hey Jude at the end had the whole place singing....Wonderful. Thats the feeling I play for. :)
Playing as 'The Chancers' tonight with our biggest ever brass section, same stage and then I have the triple whammy as I got a late call to do The Hendrix band on the Kashmere stage.

Playing in 3 different bands at the Isle of Wight Festival! Wooh! Happy Days.

Last night was good too except for our poor keyboard player who had to transpose himself when his keys went a tone out of tune. So much for technology! lol
I also confused a radio interviewer who was convinced I had been playing in a Beatle band the night before.  ;D
Eddie 'Formula one' Jordan played after us, with his band that included Damon Hill on Drums.

Where I only live down the road, I can keep coming back home in the mornings to a real bed for a few hours. I must get back out there in a bit and actually check some bands out. lol

Hey guys.  Most of you are probably a heck of a lot better musically than I am, but I thought I'd post my link anyway.  :)
After being in and out of bands for a few years, I've got a solo project that I do alongside all of my university work.
My solo name is Purple Prose, and I record mostly acoustic/folk style music, with other influences.  I've also got a few covers on there, including two Beatles ones, "This Boy" and "Yes It Is".  I don't have the most confidence in my musical abilities, especially my voice, so I'm not going to lie and say they're awesome, but they're okay.  I think "This Boy" turned out better.  :)
So if you fancy a listen, here's the link:  www.myspace.com/purpleprose6 (http://www.myspace.com/purpleprose6)
Cheers guys!

THE BRITISH  BEATLES FAN CLUB EDITOR-PETER NASH

I recently caught the gig by the Counterfeit Beatles on December 18th  2009 at The Standard in Walthamstow…

I have to say that they are one of the most authentic Beatles tribute bands that I have yet seen. Not only do they have a left-handed Paul, which is always a bonus, but this group play the Beatles music with a genuine enthusiasm and passion - which can be sadly lacking in some tribute acts who simply go through the motions.

Although the Counterfeit Beatles are renowned for their stage show and costume changes, on this occasion the band treated us to something extra special…a "Hamburg" set. This was a brilliant way to start the gig, with the band wearing leather jackets and blasting their way through a catalogue of amphetamine fuelled rock & roll – the raucous atmosphere of the Hamburg clubs in 1961 was captured perfectly – only the flying bottles and fights in the crowd were missing. The band worked themselves and the audience into a sweat with an onslaught of Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and numerous other rock and roll classics, plus early Lennon and McCartney stompers such as 'One After 909' and 'I Saw Her Standing There'. The band's red hot performance and the crowds reaction were equally wild!

After a much needed break the Counterfeit Beatles came back on wearing their "Shea Stadium" jackets and treated us to a wide-ranging set of Beatles material from the period 1963 to 1966. This band don't just churn out the obvious hits, but present a wide-ranging set list of superb Beatles album tracks and obscure but fabulous b-sides. It's great to hear songs that even the Beatles themselves never played live performed so well by the Counterfeit's.

The concert was exceptionally enjoyable and entertaining in both the musicianship and the humour that was put across. After two extended sets the crowd were still baying for more, so as a bonus the Counterfeit Beatles gave us a short selection from their 1967 to 1970 repertoire, keeping the place rockin' with scorching renditions of 'Get Back', 'Old Brown Shoe' and 'Revolution'…and asking if there were any "requests"? A voice yelled out 'Helter Skelter', as if a challenge to the band, which was responded to with a finger blistering version!!

The crowd went home happy…the band went home a stone lighter!

BritBeat, America’s Premier Tribute to the Beatles, invites fans of the most famous band in history to get their “Ticket to Ride” and once again relive the excitement of Beatlemania on The Beatles Tribute Cruise setting sail on March 28, 2010. This exclusive event, also welcoming aboard renowned Beatles artists, photographers, authors and ex-girlfriends of the famous group, leaves Ft. Lauderdale for 6 nights on Royal Caribbean's Independence of the Seas, stopping at Belize City, Costa Maya and Cozumel. In addition to featuring band trivia, and karaoke and autograph sessions, the cruise will also hold an auction of Beatles memorabilia for the Dara Roberts Fund.  Among the most thrilling of the trip’s many Beatles festivities includes three performances by BritBeat.  As the only tribute band selected for the unforgettable journey, BritBeat will hit the stage with shows that include a special Costume/Dance Party and a set list loaded with all the high-octane Beatles numbers as well as a full production show covering the complete history of the Beatles’ music catalog. For more information on this rare Beatles experience visit: www.beatlestributecruise.com (http://www.beatlestributecruise.com).

Hey guys!  As you may or may not know, I have a solo music project, called Purple Prose, and today I completed a new song I've been working on for some time.
Please check it out and let me know what you think!  It's the first song on the player, called 'Perfectly'.  Cheers!

Gosh, thank you AAB!  :D
I'm so glad you enjoyed it.  I've had this solo project for just over a year now, and I thought it might suffer when I came to university, but in fact it's made it stronger.
Thank you for listening!  I'm always glad to hear from someone who's had a gander...  I don't have many fans at all.

Nurkostam is an art rock band from Finland. Please check the MySpace site for sample songs:
http://www.myspace.com/nurkostam (http://www.myspace.com/nurkostam)

(Beatles fans should start with a song called "Dome". That one is heavily Beatles oriented.)

All Nurkostam's album tracks are available at Spotify:

What a way to welcome a new member to the forum by judging his first message as spam. Well, I'd like to spam some more. I'll put these new links in the right place also:

Besides our work with album oriented music Nurkostam has also composed soundtracks for Finnish short movies. Please check the youtube links below. The director of the films is our friend Tapani Hiedanniemi.

Not really Beatles-related, but here's a video of my band.
I'm the guitar player in a Who tribute band called The WHOdlums ...

Our drummer loves The Who and loves Keith's drumming but he knows he is no Keith Moon. There will never be another Keith Moon!  ;D
In my band, we are all playing the music we love and do it because we enjoy it - we aren't trying to be a professional band, so we are happy to entertain people when we play, and that's enough for us.
The Beatles are my favourite band and The Who are second - but I'm not good enough to be in a Beatles tribute so I have to go with The Who!  ;D

Is that you in that version of While My Guitar? Your previous post doesn't make it clear.
It's a really nice version  :)

My band (a Who tribute band called The Whodlums) played at the Cavern in Liverpool last month.
It was amazing to play on the same stage that Paul McCartney played on.
Here's us doing a song called Young Man Blues that The Who used to do in their live set in the early 1970s ...
