Title: Song Pop Quiz
Post by: JWL on March 25, 2004, 07:33:08 AM
Ok...heres how it goes.  I ask a question about any Beatles song and the person who answers it asks the next one.

What is the shortest song the Beatles ever recorded?

JWL

P.S.  All questions have to be about songs....can't jus be general Beatles trivia.  I hope this isn't too confusing!?

What Goes On is a Lennon/McCartney/Starkey composition.
I think Ringo must have contributed a line or two since it had actually been written for the most part before he was in the group!

Next question. What three Beatles songs are in the form of letters?

Ok...I think maybe you made a mistake on this one, but here goes:

P.S. I Love You
Paperback Writer

Are both definitely in the "form" of a letter....however, I cannot think up another song that fits this mold.  I know plenty of other songs which talk about writing a letter, but are not actually in the form of a letter....The closest thing I can think of is:

Dear Prudence

Which opens with a greeting similar to a letter, but there is no evidence of a letter being written.

I would really like to hear the 3rd song, because I am stumped.

The best answer was The End's! But the real answer is 1.PSI love You. 2.Paperback Writer and for JWL........ 3.When I'm 64. (Send me a postcard...Yours sincerely...give me your answer...). And don't say it doesn't start with DEAR because neither does PS I love YOU.

Oh my god. I thought this was going to be a really cool thread and was ready to show you all up. (just playing)

But it turned into a big dissapointment full of fighting and bickering.   It's not like you are doing this for money. I think three of you are to blame equally. While some might have been more wrong... always turn the other cheek...laugh and say... It's online. Then pop in your favorite Beatles Album

OK.
If JWL accepts that a count-in qualifies as a line (and I'm not sure he will),
offhand I'd say the answer to your question is four.

Ok Ssarah and Gents...This one has a few guidelines.  The question is this:

How many songs have the word 'Love' in the title?

1st rule - Cannot be variations of the word i.e. All My Loving, She Loves You - do not count.  All You Need Is Love, And I Love Her etc. are what I am looking for!

2nd rule - The total number includes Live At The BBC and the Anthology CD's and of course, all the other offically released studio albums.

I will let you know if someone gets it right, and will post the complete list of songs.

Great try, all of the ones you mentioned are right, however, there are a bit more....so think it over, and see if you can come up with the rest. :)

Tip: Pay attention to the 2nd Rule!

Edit: Actually, lets not count Love of the Loved, because that doesn't appear on any of the albums I mentioned.  It was written by Paul, but was given to Cilla Black who recorded and released it.

Three times.Twice as a cut-out and once as a doll.

What connects the Sgt.Pepper cover and I Am The Walrus?

(There are at least two answers to this, maybe you'll surprise me with a third one...)

I can't say for sure, but all I can think of is that I am the Walrus mentions Edgar Allen Poe, who appears on the sgt. pepper cover.

What's the other one, or if that wasn't what you wanted, what were the other two.

Which Beatles song was later covered by Crosby Stills and Nash

I was going to say no because there's no eggman on the sleeve. But in a way you're going in the right direction since Humpty Dumpty figured in one of this man's books... :)

OK, I'll give it to you Maccalvr.
The connection is indeed Lewis Carroll who figures on the Sgt.Pepper sleeve because he wrote Alice In Wonderland which is where Lennon himself says he got the idea for the Walrus (from The Walrus and the Carpenter).Unfortunately he realised later that the walrus wasn't a very nice character, so he should have picked someone else!

Well done and over to you for the next question...

For the UK albums released in the sixties, what connection is there between Rubber Soul, Revolver, Abbey Road and Let It Be?

Aha! No Band name on the sleeves, right?!

The weird thing was, the first 2 albums by The Rolling Stones didn't carry the band's name on the front cover!!!

Apparently, The Beatles wanted the With The Beatles sleeve to be a just them with no titling whatsoever. EMI vetoed this idea, hence the white band across the top.

Great question though! I reckon you should be allowed to ask another after you gave us such a big clue!! ;D

Yes, it's unique amongst the sixties UK albums in that there is neither the name BEATLES nor the TITLE of the album. 8) 8)
