Capitol/EMI Announces Global Release of George Harrison's First Ever Career-Spanning Solo Hits Collection, 'Let It Roll: Songs By George Harrison,' on June 16

CD and Digital Collection Features Harrison's Solo Hits, Remastered, Plus Live Recordings from 1971 Concert For Bangladesh

George Harrison Honored Today with Hollywood Walk of Fame Star Presentation

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- As music legend George Harrison is celebrated today with a new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, Capitol/EMI announces Harrison's first ever career-spanning solo hits collection, Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison. To be released June 16, the new title will feature digitally remastered tracks in deluxe packaging, including an extensive booklet featuring previously unseen and rare photos. The collection will also be available for download from all major digital service providers.

Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison is the first release that will span his entire solo recording career, including the #1 Billboard Pop singles "My Sweet Lord," "Isn't It A Pity," "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)," and "Got My Mind Set On You." The new title will also feature live recordings of three Harrison-penned Beatles songs, "Something," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," and "Here Comes The Sun" from his 1971 all-star Concert For Bangladesh benefit at Madison Square Garden. The complete track list will soon be announced.

George Harrison is a twice-inducted member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a solo artist and as a member of The Beatles, and an 11-time Grammy Award winner for his recordings with The Beatles, Traveling Wilburys and as a solo artist.

If you go to the forum on George's site, there are links stating that the album will include a "rarity".  Nothing specific though.

The rarity might be the trigger for people to buy such a compilation. Like you said, most of the fans have the complete catalogue and a new 'best of' might add nothing songwise. I'm usually not very interested in 'best of' compilations for this reason.

I'll still buy it, it has all those rare photos and maybe the rarity is something that hasn't been released.

UPDATE: A spokesman for Capitol/EMI told us this is not the final track list and said the final version will be released soon.

From:  http://www.examiner.com/x-2082-Beatles-Examiner~y2009m4d29-Track-list-revealed-for-new-George-Harrison-compilation

I think I feel better now.  (For the record, I wasn't being whiny just to be a pain, it's just that I thought George deserved better treatment than just a one-CD compilation album.)

I don't really get why they would release only a partial track listing, though.  It only makes fans grumpy and causes misunderstandings!   :P

Not sure if you're aware of this, but some people are cheesed over the cover photo too.  They don't think it's right to use a Beatle pic of George for a solo compilation.

Personally, I like it a lot.  It's a great photograph.

^Cheesed? =P

I really like the cover AND the song listing. I don't think it's right for the people to give half of the album listing, though. It's like saying, "You're half right," without an explaination. Either give out the entire listing, or don't give it out at all!

Oh, good grief. People are altogether too grumpy, if they decide to become upset over George's cover pic coming from the Beatles era. He was only in the band for about 12 years-- hardly a blink in the pop world. /extreme sarcasm

So if these people get to complain, I do, too. What in the world are they thinking, starting off the compilation with "Got My Mind Set On You"? Couldn't they have picked one of George's excellent and classic originals for this place of honor? I'm so upset, I'm going to blow up that fabulous cover to be 3 x lifesize and post it on my wall, and stare at it utter frustration. Or something.

...I'm feeling mellower already....

Very glad they're including "Cheer Down". I suppose "I Don't Want To Do It" is the rarity.

I agree with you whole heartdely HariHead.

People just need to calm down. I do see the reason in getting upset over this. If it sin't something you're interested in, don't buy it.

As far as the cover photo. Who cares if he's in The Beatles or not when that photo was taking, he's still George Harrison. And the photo, as mentioned before, is a GREAT photo. Its balance is amazing, dark and light but still mysterious. And it's George, whats not to like? ;)

Anyway, still can't wait for the release. Now I just need to find some money! :)

I'll probably be a coward and let someone else buy the album and report. My experience with George albums is that the packaging is a delight. It looks like it was put together with love and appreciation, and includes lots of interesting extras. So if it turns out to be a beautiful CD (with that lovely cover as a start), I might buy it anyway, even though I have most of the songs! (Yes, I'm missing his non-album ones in CD form, of which "Cheer Down" is a particular favorite.)

Okay, so I've seen the final list and I'm not very impressed.  :(  I don't mean to be grumpy but I just think George deserves a better collection.  One disc is not enough.  And his previous "best of" album was like, what, half Beatles songs? :-/

DaveRam, Brainwashed is excellent. I also enjoy George's eponymous album. "Soft-Hearted Hana" is one of my favorites! I personally love the dark, slinky version of "Not Guilty" and "Faster" has captured my heart.

You know, it very well could be, but I cant swear to it. I looked at the soundtrack for '10' and nothing though. I havent found anything on the net as for a movie the song is listed, but I know for a fact that I heard it. It was the first time I ever heard it if that tells you how long ago it may have been, but I knew it was George and I loved it. They played the song two different times actually on the movie, but I have no idea what it might be.

He's doing well at home. I really like the remastered songs, especially theWMGGW guitar jam at 3:16. Dana ; )

DoBotherMe, I've merged both of your threads into this one. Three threads about the same album is a little bit over the top methinks.  ;)

I figured a dead Beatle charting deserved a headline, and I found 5 threads on Fireman so I thought it was okay. But you're the boss methinks. Dana ; )

Ridiculously exclusive tracklisting. I'm wondering who this compilation is aimed at. The small selection of tunes suggests it's for casual listeners, but the lush packaging is something that the fans would enjoy more.

I really don't get the need for compilations in these days anymore. Most people can make a playlist just like that on their iPod. It's probably the package that makes the difference.

The "rarity" I don't want to do it was a semi-official George release. Appear on the soundtrack of the Porky's Revenge movie. There's another studio version of the 80's and a demo version in the All things must pa** era.
I pick this last version and use only the George's voice to record the rest of instruments and vocals, in the same way that Paul, George and Ringo works on the John's Real Love and Free as a bird, and created a version on the George Harrison style

THAT'S THE RARITY TRACK?!!?

I've been trying to get that song for years! I love it! I have to get this CD now, even though I have every other song...I don't care! It's George Harrison.

Ya I got it! Thanks for asking! :)

I love all the photos in the booklet, I showed my cousin and said, "Tell me that's not the best looking guy you ever saw." She begged to differ! Haha!

But I love the CD! I mean it's nice to just put in and listen to because it's hit after hit.
