And that's too bad.  Steve Miller has been around since the mid-60s.  Blues, blues rock, psychedelic rock, pop-rock...he did it all and did it well.  And still does!

The Steve Miller Band was in no way an outfit with disproportionately huge soft rock-ish appeal to us guys across the pond.

And let's not forget that he has a Beatles/McCartney connection and that Steve and Paul are long time pals and collaborators:

Glyn Johns produced Miller's first four albums;

McCartney sang backing vocals and played drums, guitar, and bass on various tracks on Miller's third album;

Miller appeared on the Flaming Pie LP playing guitar and singing backing, and sharing lead, vocals on several tracks.

I think he's produced some awesome music!

I have to admit that I didn't know all this neat stuff about Steve Miller. I'll have to look into this more!

He's a pioneer for sure.  And he started like this...

I think Steve is one of the greats. I believe I told this story somewhere here before, but I saw him "back in the day" when he opened for Spirit (at the Monterey Fairgrounds, btw) and completely stole the show. The crowd was calling for Steve through most of Spirit's opening set. Pretty embarrassing for them.

Always  liked Steve.  But even in his seventies heyday his sound was very retro, so don't know if I would tag him as a pioneer.  But he qS as much  appreciated as king crimson, Floyd and hawkwind. No mean feat

It's not so much the actual quotient of Brits on the list HG and nimrod; rather the inclusion of acts like Supertramp, CSN&Y and Steve Miller (which I thought jarred in the company of the more mainstream giants - be they British OR American - like Stones, Elvis, The Who, Led Zep, Dylan et al). I always regard such outfits as having disproportionately huge soft rock-ish appeal to you guys across the pond and would personally lump them alongside artists such as REO Speedwagon, Doobie Brothers, Foreigner, Air Supply, Boston etc none of whom would - I imagine - figure particularly prominently on a list generated by a middle aged Brit (but I don't speak for all of us and could well be wrong!).

By the way I'd like to stress that this is in no way whatsoever a criticism of Todd's list. I just think you'd be a bit bemused if a Brit had done the list and thrown in people like ELO, T.Rex, The Jam or Abba for example. And I can never quite get my head around this idea that The Zombies get such a shout on these things either to be honest. Surely they're minnows in comparison to the likes of DC5, Manfred Mann or The Hollies, to name but three examples?

I'm making a 2nd list now.  Thanks for doing the leg work for me Mr.M.   ha2ha

Right.  He went mainstream in the 70s, but sometimes he reverted to his 60s self...

Serenade is an awesome track and is definitely one of my favorites (originally appeared on the Fly Like an Eagle LP for those not familiar and wondering about the video graphic).
