I guess you could try asking a store if its their first shipment of the set.

Just a guess, but possibly it will have a different label number. I can email Mark Lapidos at the Fest site to see how one can tell the difference. Who knows? Maybe it will come with a label attached or maybe Capitol will have some type of press release about the date of the second pressing. There's got to be a way to tell. I got my set today, but haven't gotten a chance to listen to it yet. I'll do some digging.

Be quick: the box will be taken back from the retailers and shops to be replaced by the proper box with the true mono mixes of Rubber Soul and Beatles VI. I guess the first issue is going to be a collector's item...

I was afraid of that. There's no way I'm sending the originals back which means I'll have to buy another set.

Reading this and knowing Beatles-fans buy everything, you could think they did it on purpose.

If I was smart, I would have kept this set sealed.

Alright well I just got this set today and its the set with the fold down mono mixes. I'm wondering if I should return the two discs or hold on to this set. I realise I have a collectors set now but I cant afford to buy two sets. So if I keep the one I have I won't have the originals. What would you guys suggest I do?

Personally speaking, I would keep the fold down mix versions!

By the way, how can you tell which version you have?

I've ordered the American version of the boxset from Amazon and am hoping I get the fold down mono version but I wont know till I get it!!

I just listened to Rubber Soul and it's pretty easy to tell on Im Looking Through You because if it's the fold downs it will have the false start on both versions. I dont think theres any way to tell without opening the set. Im pretty sure Im going to keep the set.

Without opening: you can tell by the sticker on the frontside. It's the yellow sticker with 'NEW...BEATLES VOLUME 2' on top. At the bottom there's little numbers. If it ends with '2 5', you got the one with the fold down mixes. '2 4 SK1' means you got the proper mono mixes.
