Your Most HATED McCartney Hit Single
« on: December 11, 2008, 09:32:05 AM »

Hahha...Alright, I know this is a pretty negative question, but I'll be the first person to admit that even though Paul McCartney is one of my all-time favourite artists, there are a few songs of his that I would not consider that great.

Mind you, there are some songs on this list that I really do love.  I just tried to think of songs that I imagine a lot of other people might dislike ;)

I've kicked "Pipes of Peace" elsewhere here, and I don't see any reason to change my mind now. Ugh.

"Spies Like Us" should never be on a list like this (nono)(tongue6)
The rest is fair enough , i went with "Mary Had A Little Lamb" , the best place for them little buggers is on my plate covered in MINT SAUCE (thumbsup)

Call me a cheese ball but I adore the Wings' version of "Mary Had A Little Lamb"! :)

I voted for "Once Upon A Long Ago."  It's just...ehhhhhhh.   :-/

Exactly! Do some homework before you post.

It's not a McCartney song so it shouldn't be counted.

Of that list the 3 that i really dislike are wonderfull christmastime, freedom and spies like us. They all seem to have been songs exploiting a situation and dont really have any artistic merit.

As poor as Mary had a little lamb sounds it was macca releasing something he knew was going to be mocked and not really caring. Silly love songs is actually a great track and makes him the most punk of his contemporaries as 70s rock stars were all aiming to be highbrow and pretentious while Paul simply didnt care what critics thought.

Also we all stand together is awesome its one of the earliest songs i can remember, before i knew who Paul or the Beatles where i knew that was the guy with the frogs, cool.

Funny, Pipes of Peace is winning, and I quite like this song (the story behind it too)

Wonderful Christmastime and Silly Love Songs... not the best Macca.

It just has to be the vomit inducing 'The Girl Is Mine'.

(Paul)
Michael, we're not going to fight about this, okay

(Michael)
Paul, I think I told you, I'm a lover not a fighter

(Paul)
I've heard it all before, Michael, she told me that I'm her forever
lover, you know, don't you remember

(Michael)
Well, after loving me, she said she couldn't love another

Quite, quite bad.

I don't know what's up with people not liking Pipes of Peace or Silly Love Songs, though.

As far as the "artistic merit" of "Spies Like Us" that someone else commented on... Artistic merit? It doesn't exist.

I once read a book that told the story that one of Lennon's staff entered his bedroom, and found at least one condom filled with urine hanging near the bed. On a blog like this, a fan wondered if Lennon was making "an artistic statement".  I laughed. The "statement" was that he was too lazy or stoned to get out of bed band go to the toilet, so he peed in a condom. But, in the mind of that fan, Lennon was an "artist", and the urine filled condom must have been some sort of artistic statement. Uh huh.

"Message" or no, popular music is as 'artistic' as a comic book.

^ He obviously didn't pee much. And we know that his condom wouldn't have been that big! ;D

Okay, you win; that's just Godawful.   ;D

Truth be told, I haven't heard it since about 1983, and with any luck I won't hear it for the next 25 years either, by which time I should be safely deaf.

I am so glad someone picked "The Girl Is Mine."  That would be my second choice behind "We All Stand Together."  The most perplexing thing about "The Girl Is Mine"?  It was the FIRST single from Thriller, the biggest selling album in the world.  That's right.  Before "Billie Jean," "Beat It," "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," "PYT (Pretty Young Thing)," "Human Nature," AND "Thriller."  I'm just glad "The Girl Is Mine" didn't make it any higher than #2 on the charts.
