Facebook/Twitter/Myspace
« on: February 11, 2009, 09:50:56 AM »

I need some advice on setting up a Facebook account. My family is scattered around a bit, so I though it would be a good idea to have a Facebook account for all of us to use to communicate, post photo's etc. So, I know how to make an account, but I can't work out how to set it up so that say, 10 people can post in the photo's, music sections and so on. Basically, evryone that is allowed on there should have administrator rights. I don't want it open to anyone except family members though.

Any advice from any of you Facebookers out there?

Hi Paul, it is a very useful tool for family. There are a few options....You can set up a group page, or there are even applications like my family, my relative tree etc. In settings you can change privacy parameters....Thats should get you onto the right path...fire away if u need any more info. :)

Go with Bebo Paul if you havent tried it before, it is much easier to use than the rest and looks a lot better as you can personalize you're page more than facebook which everyones page looks the same.

On Facebook you can set it up so that your profile and everything associated with it is only visible to your friends.  And your profile's yours, only you can edit it.  Hope it works out for you :)

I'm on Facebook, too. I don't think anyone can alter my profile but me-- but hey, what do I know? I created the account to have a professional presence easily accessible on the web, in case any agents or editors want to look me up. (I also have a web page, but it's out of date.)

MySpace seems to be for the younger/music/artist crowd, Facebook seems to be more friends/family/professional. I have most of my contacts set up there, and on LinkedIn. I started on MySpace, but Facebook gets more traffic. I really don't use it as a communication tool, though-- I chiefly use email for that.

Yeah, only you can edit your Facebook page, unless you decide to give your password to others.  I agree that starting a group page on FB is a great idea; everyone within the group can participate and you can probably have multiple administrators as well.

I find that FB is a really good way to keep in touch with people.  I've found many old school friends and relatives (in-laws) from all over the world there.  I don't like MySpace as much; it's too slow and disorganized for me.  My main issue with FB is that the applications have gotten harder (or more confusing) to install on your site...sometimes I'll add new apps, but then I won't be able to find them on my page afterwards.

yeah I actually manage a few Facebook groups, one with my friends for when we attempt to make plans and another one from my old school in Alberta.

As for the applications, I've stopped adding them.  There's some good ones out there but some of them have gotten just plain stupid.

I know.  I don't really add new ones anymore, but I'm so addicted to Pieces of Flair--my Flair board has so many Beatle references and that makes me happy! 8)

Anyone on Facebook that's interested in attempting my dastardly difficult Beatles quiz, go here:

A warning, the average score is 35%!

I was on my things-to-do list for months. This was a good reason to start an account.  ;D
