Funeral Songs ?
« on: February 28, 2009, 04:18:33 PM »

I'm planning on having "Blackbird" played at my funeral in 40 years time .
Also i want them tapping their toes so "I Saw Her Standing There " will be playing as they send me off to the toaster

I very recently just played Blackbird at a funeral along with In My Life and We Can Work It Out. In the church I had to do 'He Ain't Heavy' - The Hollies and Cat Stevens 'Morning Has Broken.' It's not something I'd like to do too often but I thought all the songs had a great meaning in them. Was a beautiful day.

I always told my husband if I die before him, I want Pink Floyd's "Us and Them" played, followed by "In My Life" by the Beatles.  I knew alot of people who used "Us and Them" at furnerals.

I sometimes think whether I would like to be buried in the ground or cremated. Do you have such thoughts or is it clear to you?
I have never thought about a funeral song...

Paul's "The End of the End" would work as a funeral song.

"A Day in the Life" seems kind of funereal to me as well.

I don't like to think about death. And funerals are depressing. I wouldn't want to associate any Beatle song with someone's death. Which is what would happen if you played it at a funeral for a loved one. Right away, that song gets set in your head as the day of so and so's funeral. Depressing. Keep it to weddings and other happy events I say.

My friends (twin brother musicians) played In My Life at our wedding (my wife's and my wedding, not the two friends and me).

When I die, I'd like to have "I'm Down" as the theme song. Seems to make sense, right?  ;)

Unless it's cremation for me, in which case "Fire" by the Pointer Sisters (or The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, or whatever the name of that group was) will do just fine!

At my grandpa's funeral, my brother in law made a tribute video for him and I picked out the songs and I chose, In My Life and Follow Me.

Good choices.   ;)

If I had to have some sort of funeral service, I don't know which songs I'd like (specifically), but having some Beatles songs would be nice.  Whether I'd choose happy or sad songs, I don't know, but I'd like to "go out" along with the Fab Four.

It's gotta be The long and winding road' for me and instructions are already left though I might add 'In my life' and 'always look on the bright side of life' as the encore :)

Cremation for me, no windy muddy, rainy slogs to the cemetery for my lot.

I like the above specification!
Very well thought-out songs. The titles speak for themselves.  ;)

The majority is thinking about cremation. I also think it`s scary to lie in a dark wooden thing with no air...I start to remember the movie To Kill Bill...It is so vividly shown there.
And meanwhile I`ve hit 2000!!!

Something tells me that I shouldn't be cremated. I want to be in a grave 5 feet in the ground.  :)
