The Monkees

Any Monkees fans out there? Did anyone see Living in TV Land with Davy Jones? it was great!! I've seen them in concert twice in 1997 and 2001 sure it was the three of them but still a great show!!

Living in TV Land began as a special in August 2004 with Living in TV Land: Dick Van Patten, a tongue-in-cheek look at a day in the life of the Eight is Enough star. The series takes a look at the daily ins and outs of Barry Williams (The Brady Bunch); Fred Willard (Fernwood 2Nite, "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,") Sherman Hemsley (The Jeffersons), Adam West (Batman) and Davy Jones (The Monkees).

I've seen them twice too - once as a three-piece without Michael Nesmith and once as a four-piece WITH Michael Nesmith! Very enjoyable on both occasions :-)

i kind of like nessie...so to see them without him would be pointless...do you know mike produce the nitty gritty dirt band in the beginnning??

I used to watch them in reruns, and just to make my friends laugh I would run up the the tv and kiss it when they put on Davy Jones' face at the beginning. They knew I thought he was cute. I still like a lot of their songs, but I could never watch that show now. I wish I would have seen him on TV Land!!

My favourite song is Daily Nightly - very psychedelic with a very early use of a Moog synth (but the sound gets a bit annoying after a while!). I actually did a remix of this track, when I was bored, to see if I could get rid of some of the Moog parts!

Luckily enough, there are two versions of this track - one WITH the moog and one WITHOUT (both at slightly different speeds unfortunately). I did manage to mix the two though AND removed some of the more annoying Moog parts!

I then added some very psychedelic 'phasing' to the track. This is done by using two audio signals one of which is in turn slowed down and speeded up to match the the other audio signal. Nowerdays this is normally done with a 'flanger' but I used the old fashioned way!

The finished result is SUPERB, if I do say so myself!!! ;D

I like the Monkees. 'Goin Down', 'Words', 'Porpoise Song', and 'Valleri' are probably my favorites.

So does anyone think that they'll get together for their 40th annivesary this year as the 4 of them? I'd like to think so but from what I"ve been hearing it might not happen, they should tho!! It's great to see other Monkees fans!

i hope so they need to let up on the ill feelings they harbour....after all its not like any of them took a risk to get into the industry....was it not peter who left first???and then he came back...then mike left for good...he has another career all his own....i have yet to see their movie head...and am still courious about it...

mickey is a disc jockey now....

As a sixties kiddie The Monkees had a much greater affect on me than the Beatles. Superb TV show with some superb music. Remember though that until the bitter end they were basicly actors doing kareoke. We would crucify them today.

not entirely true kev...mike played and was accomplished...and by their 4th album they played their own instruments...they couldn't fake the singing either...remember they had toured with hendrix...

I believe Peter Tork was the most musically accomplished Monkee - strangely, overall, he contributed the least to the recordings made while he was in the band.
