You guys have some good points! I agree with Kev that it sounds more like Paul than George.

One other thing that makes me think it's John is that he often used little partial chord forms and double notes in his solos, like in You Can't Do That. Paul tended to be more single-notey, but who knows?

Hi Bleen
The reason I think it sounds more like Paul is it reminds me of his solo in Taxman

Wonderful bass lines in this song as well

Hi Kev,

Yeah it reminds me of Taxman too. The mystery continues! I haven't read the Lewisohn Recording Sessions book in years, I wonder if he mentions anything about who played the solo?

According to The Beatles Bible, and Geoff Emerick, it was George  ha2ha

According to my reference it was George. John played piano. It recounts an anecdote that the people in the studio revved George to turn his amp up.

But I agree it sounds like a Paul solo to me. More busy than melodic

Apparently this was the last recording session before Yoko made herself a fixture in the studio. It was by all accounts a happy session that went better than anyone expected.

John also tried to get this released as a single instead of lady Madonna.

Your good at finding the vids Baz

Another Girl - P
USSR - P
Good Morning GM - P
Taxman - P
Sgt Pepper - P

Get Back - J
Honey Pie - J
I Want You - J
You Cant Do That - J
Every Little Thing - J

While My Guitar - EC

is the list so far

Hey Kevin, why don't you include "Ticket To Ride"? Paul plays lead guitar there. Maybe there's not a proper lead guitar solo, but then you shouldn't include "Another Girl" in the list.

You're welcome Kevin. The song had already been mentioned, that's why I wondered why it wasn't included in the list.

I read something the the solo on Matchbox is suspected to be John although it can't be confirmed. Maybe it could be on the list with an asterisk

I have both John and George listed as lead but the really distorted lead part I'm pretty sure is John

Anecdote of an almost lead by George. Apparently he did some manic solo for Mr Moonlight that John loved. But GM didn't so they substituted the organ solo.

In the video John plays the distorted intro.

The Beatles - Revolution (HD)

As Moogmodule said, I think the distorted lead guitar part is played by John too.

Georges best solo - Something
Georges worst soslo - I'll Follow The Sun

(IMO)  ;D

I was reading that George fought for the Ill Follow the Sun solo. Apparently John was doing some acoustic solos (not overly successfully) and George said he wanted to do a lead. It ended up being used but no one was happy with it. Even george

Thing is even a few choice notes can work well. But in duplicating the melody the notes weren't particularly choice.  ha2ha

I recall Geoff Emerick saying Johns acoustic bit shouldve been used

being as its an acoustic song

I recall reading in one of my books Paul did the guitar work on Here, There and Everywhere. I can't remember which book though.

John played the lap-steel solo on For You Blue.

I think we can count that as a guitar solo.
