Title: Why don't people praise Ringo's drumming on his solo albums?
Post by: Loco Mo on July 06, 2019, 04:12:00 PM
Everybody talks about how he was the perfect drummer with the Beatles and how creative he was and how he played just the right stuff that fit the songs.

But I've never heard anyone praise his drumming skills on any of his solo albums.  Why is that?

Easy answer for me, I've never heard any of them.

You might want to dig up some older threads of us reviewing or commenting on the his albums as they came out.  Ringo Rama is one of my favorite solo albums and his drumming on it is stellar.  Choose Love was a great drumming album too.  All of his solo stuff is solid.

Thanks, tkitna.  I'll re-listen to those.

Thanks, tkitna.  I'll re-listen to those.

Being more specific - Instant Amnesia from Rama and the title song Choose Love off of the same album (old rangworm uses some double bass even on that one).

Unfortunately his 70's and early 80's output is marred by his alcoholism and while his drumming was still good, there wasn't much innovation or anything to cause one to take notice.  There's some solid stuff like Going Down off of Old Wave (might be Russ Kunkel even) and a few odds and ends, but it wasn't until the 90's that I started enjoying his playing again.
