Actually it's neither! The best singer in rock was "Elvis" his voice was so pure it defyed description! He could sing a ballad or, a rock song with intensity! The phrasing of lyrics with his voice was uncomparable! The Are You Lonesome Tonight or Jail House Rock, or, Blue Suede Shoes were all examples of his talent!

i wouldnt say Elvis had the best rock voice, but he had one hell of an amazing voice. you wont find many like him EVER !

^ I have to agree, Rodgers voice is powerful yet accurate.
His work with Free alone, gives him the title

Although I Love Lennon & Mccartneys blending, I dont know if they should have the Rock* title.

Maybe not exactly "Rock and Roll", but in terms of pop music, I always admired Elton's incredibly powerful voice, especially in songs like Can You Feel The Love Tonight and Someone Saved My Life Tonight. Incredible power.

Art Garfunkel also had a voice that I think topped all the Beatles, ballad-wise. Neither John or Paul could possibly pull off something like Bridge Over Troubled Water like Garfunkel could.

Maybe Paul could have. His voice was pretty strong. Don't know about those high notes though. But then Simon and Garfunkel barely qualify as rock. More like easy listening.

yeah your right there macc...that guy had an incredible voice. did anyone see him sing at the LIVE AID concert back in 85 i think it was .. great singer great showman !

I think John & Paul are equally great vocalists with few equals while Paul Rodgers of Free/Bad Co. is one of the greatest rock vocalist of all time but is highly underrated for some reason.

I remember hearing how outstanding they were at Live Aid was. That they gave the best performance out of everybody there. I should get the DVD. A lot of cool band were there that I don't even remember.

I think Paul has a prettier voice than John, John had a great psychedelic voice, I prefer George of the four, but, I find it quite hard to pick the best vocalist in rock history, depends on what kind of voice you're looking for I s'pose

PHEW! The above statement should not be taken lightly. As a matter of fact, I may retract my original post and choose Elvis. Apple Sauce was right, the King could sing it all. What a voice.

yeah i will agree with you tkitna and apple sauce.. the KING had a amazing voice.. those gospel type songs he was doing in the 70's just showed what a great voice he had ...suspicious minds .. what a song !
