Your Beatles Album
« on: November 21, 2007, 12:43:33 AM »

Ive looked around and I Haven't found this thread so I'll make it.

Let's Make it So There's 3 or 2 Harrison songs and there is 1 Ringo sung song. The rest can be Lennon/McCartney, but make the contributions from Lennon and McCartney Equal.
I Found out that the running time for a side of an Album is 23 minutes(so then the whole album is 46 minutes) so you can make it that long If you dont wanna do all that Math, just make it 14 songs,7 sideA and 7  Side B.

Keep it as Even as You Can.
Here's Mine:
Side A
1.Hey Bulldog
2.Dont Let Me Down
3.With a Little Help From My Friends
4.While My Guitar Gently Weeps
5.Oh Darling
6.Dear Prudence
7.Sexy Sadie
8.I Me Mine

Side B

9.Getting Better
10.Here Comes the Sun
11.Yesterday
12.Paperback Writer
13.In My Life
14.You Never Give Me Your Money
15. In the End
Took a Long time to decide. :)

I'm Gonna Make this right Now! ;D

Blimey Beatles, only 3 songs pre '67!

Here's mine. I've ignored your rule allowing 3 George Harrison songs, as I think it's disproportionate to the number of his songs recorded by The Beatles.

I Saw Her Standing There
If I Needed Someone
She's A Woman
Rain
Penny Lane
Sexy Sadie
Glass Onion

Paperback Writer
With A Little Help From My Friends
Here Comes The Sun
Things We Said Today
All My Loving
One After 909
Eight Days A Week

I haven't done the maths, but it's about 35 minutes, which is roughly Beatles length.

What a great idea, Beatles! I'll need to think about this, but _I_ have no problem following your rules of 3 George songs and 1 Ringo one.  :P ;D

I have to say, as a first reaction, both you and BlueMeanie included some of my favorite songs-- and some songs that are on my skip list! Once again, I'm just tickled to see how the Beatles appeal to so many different tastes.

1)I Saw Her Standing There(this classic just kicks instantly into gear w/ Paul's "1, 2, 3...!!"--the best opener I could recollect)
2)Help!
3)Day Tripper
4)Think For Yourself (Harrison inclusion#1)
5)And I Love Her
6)Paperback Writer
7)Back In The USSR

1)Strawberry Fields Forever
2)Goodnight (my one Ringo choice--I always thought THIS was his best vocal performance during the Beatles era--not his most famous, just his best singing IMO)
3)Something (Hari #2)
4)Eleanor Rigby
5)Penny Lane
6)Here Comes The Sun (Hari #3)
7)Michelle

(note: a root canal would've been easier to endure than compiling my list above.. I left SO MANY out that I wanted to include--OUCH!!!!!!!!!! great thread, but PAINFUL!!!!!!)

Mine might strike others as unorthodox (or might not, I guess). I'm sorry, but I can't split things up 50-50, and it's a double album, approx. 22 minutes per side (short for the best sound reproduction). I can't narrow it any further. :)

SIDE 1: LAY DOWN YOUR ARMS
-----------------------------------
1. Soldier of Love (BBC)
2. The Honeymoon Song (BBC)
3. Long, Tall Sally (American mix)
4. She Loves You (")
5. Please, Mister Postman (")
6. I'll Be Back (")
7. Leave My Kitten Alone (Beatles For Sale Sessions)
8. What You're Doing (American stereo mix)

SIDE 2: THE WORLD IS AT YOUR COMMAND
-------------------------------------------------
1. I Feel Fine (American stereo mix)
2. The Night Before (")
3. You're Going to Lose That Girl (")
4. In My Life (")
5. If I Needed Someone (")
6. Nowhere Man (")
7. Rain (")

SIDE 3: EVERY SOUND THERE IS
------------------------------------
1. Eleanor Rigby (American stereo mix)
2. I'm Only Sleeping (")
3. And Your Bird Can Sing (")
4. Strawberry Fields Forever (Acoustic demo)
5. With a Little Help From My Friends (Either stereo mix)
6. Good Morning, Good Morning (Anthology 2 -- brass-free take)
7. Sgt. Pepper Reprise/A Day in the Life (Either stereo mix)

SIDE 4: IT'S GONNA BE ALL RIGHT
--------------------------------------
1. I Am the Walrus (Love mix)
2. Revolution (American stereo mix)
3. Dear Prudence (Either stereo mix)
4. Everybody's Got Something to Hide... (")
5. Hey, Bulldog (YS Songtrack mix)
6. Oh, Darling (Either stereo mix)
7. Here Comes the Sun (American 1967-1970 mix)

excellent Chris...you really thought this one out. Dont ever apologize for being unothodox..that's the POINT.

really great choices. (plus you had the cheekiness to name each of your sides !! Cool...nice touch^5) I would BUY this album.

(only problem is..dammit, you got a double-sided album!! I wish I would've done that !! LOL.. I left so many out !!   grrrrrrrr ;D)

  • But I tried.

I did it quickly (with liner notes!), but I think it's good.  I liked the idea someone had of kicking it off with Paul's count-in on "I Saw Her Standing There," but I like All My Loving as a song better.   I used one fewer song to accommodate the length of "Hey Jude," because it's another one their seminal works.

I tried to include Indian music, three-part harmonies, rock, the excitement and energy of Beatlemania, love, weirdness, classicism, children's music, etc.  All the "Beatles elements."  Start strong on each side, finish with a cool outro.  Cue Ed -- "Ladies and gentlemen, the Beatles!"

All My Loving
Strawberry Fields Forever
Eleanor Rigby
Within You, Without You
Long Tall Sally
Hey Jude

A Hard Day
