Best song never released as a single
« on: October 14, 2004, 12:09:28 PM »

Just wondering what you think the best song is that was never released as a single.

My personal favourite is "And your bird can sing"  The guitar just floors me, among George's best work with the Beatles.  I can't say why else, just that I always have to repeat the song two or three times.

what do you all think?

I was going to say "Things We Said Today" but I see it was the B-Side of "Hard Day's Night."  So I'll go with "Got to Get You Into My Life."  It's just an amazing sound and I like the straightforward chorus.

Mine would be "DayTripper" I think that was a single though. I do like "And Your Bird Can Sing" aswell.

All My Loving, Helter Skelter in 68 (forget the 76 R'N'R release), .. They would have made great singles

Favourite songs that didn't make Red/Blue Albums:

Rubber Soul - I'm Looking Through You, If I Needed Someone
Revolver - I'm Only Sleeping, She Said, She Said
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - Good Morning, Good Morning, Getting Better
The White Album - Julia, Yer Blues, Sexy Sadie, Helter Skelter
Let It Be - Two of Us, I've Got a Feeling
Abbey Road - I Want You, Because, Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End

Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! should have been on a Single. I would have got it... if I was alive back then.

Some were not singles but number one hit as covers:
Michelle, With a little Help From My Friends or Obladi Oblada are some examples ... tho not my favourites for single.
She Said, She Said could have been one great single instead of Eleanor Rigby /Yellow Submarine (but the psychedelia of this single ... )
While My Guitar Gently Weeps could have been the first A-side of George in late 68 (no single since september 68 till april 69).
And many more...

3) Drive My Car
4) Norwegian Wood
5) In My Life
6) If I Needed Someone
7) Taxman
8) Here, There and Everywhere
9) Good Day Sunshine
10) Got to Get You into My Life
11) Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
12) A Day in the Life
13) Back in the USSR
14) Birthday
15) Here Comes the Sun
16) Across the Universe

I know some of these were released as singles in the 70s with repackages, but I'm going with the original single releases.  I may be wrong but I don't think any of these were released as singles before the Beatles broke up.

I agree that WMGGW definatly could have been a single, they had numerous songs that were never released as singles, I think a Lucy In The Skiy With Diamonds single could of charted pretty high.
