Title: Lyric Meaning?
Post by: TenBobNote on July 21, 2004, 11:49:33 PM
Does anyone know the meaning behind the lyrics to Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey?

Yup.  I string 'em all out one word at a time.  :)

There are conflicting stories about the song, one of the most common is one John mentioned himself, having seen a cartoon about he and Yoko and she was drawn as a monkey on his back...it was one way of him turning the insult back around.

As to what they might have been hiding, I don't know.

According to George, the "everybody's got something to hide"-line was taken from one of the Maharishi's teachings.

Yeah, I heard it was based on things the Maharishi used to say all the time, "come on it's such a joy" etc

I've always thought it was John's way of saying that he and Yoko were honest and in the open about everything, and not ashamed to be in your face about it.
Everybody else by comparison were a bunch of phonies.

what John said: "About me and Yoko. Everybody seemed to be paranoid except for us two, who were in the glow of love."

the line 'Come is such a joy' came from the Maharishi

Actually this jogged my memory...there WAS talk about India and all the monkeys fornicating everywhere...but now I don't recall if it was an inspiration for this song or Why Don't We Do It In The Road?

 :D :D, how funny.
Actually, Paul saw two monkeys doing it in the middle of the road. The male monkey jumped into the female and f***ed her and then, with the same indifference, got out of her. She looked everywhere as if only a little disturbance had bothered her, and then continued as if nothing had happened. paul got the inspiration for "Why don't we do it in the road?"
