What is the big deal about the internet?
« on: May 23, 2004, 01:16:26 PM »

I go on the internet for the latest news mostly but I don't consider it a big deal since the internet doesn't impress me personaly speaking even though it's better to get the news before the general public most of the time while I think it's ridiculous when people accuse you of this, that & the other as in this website or other message boards for nothing at all except expressing an opinion besides everybody says about the same thing continously as in so called different threads like which John Lennon song do you like or which John Lennon song do you hate.

But it's different when one person *ahem* posts the SAME THING numerous times on the same thread...

Wayne, your posts would be much easier to read if you used punctuation and broke them up into individual sentences once in a while.

To me, the most important thing about the internet are the unbelievable possibilities of communication on message boards.

You have to think about it, one just has to register on a message board, and he can communicate with all kinds of people from all over the world within seconds - amazing. Think about it. These people don`t know each other, they are often thousands of miles apart, yet they can communicate as if they were face-to-face. I think that`s wonderful and for me, it is the big deal about the internet!

It is a remarkable source of information!  One can google just about any question/subject and find an answer within seconds.  It is mind-boggling.

i first was introduced to email and the internet (or what it was then) in '94 when i was going into 3rd grade...i cant imagine life without it...any question i have i can find anwsers to on the internet...or at least find a source that would tell me...i can communicate with friends without using the phone...i can read papers from all over the world from all sorts of viewpoints...i can shop...i can sell...i can transfer money to my bank account...i can watch video clips...i can read jokes...i can listen to 'local' radio stations...even though i am 3,000 miles away...i wouldnt have discovered all the awesome little bands across the world i now listen to...i wouldnt be able to get directions by just typing in an address i wanted to go to...i wouldnt be able to type in someones name into a search engine and find out thier current address and phone number...i wouldnt be able to register for courses with the ease i can now...there are so many reasons why the internet is awesome

I can't even fathom how my life would have been without the internet. I've had it since I was ten years old or something like that - and now, seven years later, I'm sadly a bit addicted, but not ridiculously so. Without the internet, who could I have discussed my interests, like the Beatles? I know maybe two - three persons in Real Life that are fans like me.

I also met my current best friend online - I can't imagine ever bumping into her on the streets, as we live in different countries :)

I feel exactly the same way! The only two people I know who like The Beatles are my dad and my guitar techer.

And e-mail is definitely important, because it allows me to communicate with my relatives halfway accross the world without runningup the phone bill or waiting forever for a reply to a snail mail letter.
