Abbey Road 40th anniversary
« on: August 03, 2009, 05:58:43 AM »

On Saturday 8th August it will be 40 years since The Beatles took their famous walk into history. I wonder if there will be any commemoration events at Abbey Road? Maybe Macca will be there to sign albums! I wish!!!
In 1997 I was at the 40th anniversary of Paul's first meeting with John's Quarrymen at the Woolton fete. Also for nostalgia I was at the Jacaranda 40 years to the day they left for Hamburg, but no one else was!
How time flies!  ::)

I think The British Beatles Fan Club will get folk to cross it at 11.42am the exact time The Beatles got their photo snapped

I believe the "official" story is that he wore slippers (and no socks) and got rid of them because they were uncomfortable.

Sandals, wasn't it? And his feet got too hot, so he took them off or something. =]

I was just being cute here, Joost.  As though the whole "Paul is dead" thing was originated by John on the steps of the studio.

Yes, Happy Birthday to the Abbey Road cover today, it seems more famous than the album itself!
i mean, how many bands come up with album covers like that now??

Right.  Forty years ago today at 11:35 AM, photographer Iain MacMillan, standing on a stepladder, took these six pictures of the Beatles crossing Abbey Road:

Look via the webcam on the Abbey Road crossing. It's pretty busy.

40 years! I've been a Beatle fan my whole life and I still can't comprehend how long The Beatles have been around, and how long they have remained at the top of popularity musically.

Anyways... HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY ABBEY ROAD!
