Yesterday I happened to hear the song Yesterday on the radio when me and my mom got in the car. It's kinda funny how it's pretty much the most played song ever on the radio, and I think this was the first time I heard it on the radio, at least that I can remember.

One of the prettiest love songs written, I feel.

Other than playing in my house... I heard Day Tripper when I was at the grocery store (health food store) doing some shopping on Friday.
-
I went to see Bill Bailey live last night, and while we were waiting for him to come on, they played 'Hey Jude', quickly followed by 'Supermassive Black Hole' by Muse, who are my boyfriend's fave band, which caused the people with us to shoot us silly looks and go 'ooh, they must have known you two were coming!'. roll:) :P

-
Some guy on the streets in Provincetown was playing "In My Life"
-
This wasn't where I last heard a Beatle song (the last time was a couple minutes ago and it was Polythene Pam) but one time last month my mom and I were crossing from the parking lot to the entrance of the mall and when we were waiting to cross a man crossed us and he was listening to Birthday and it was really loud.I was so excited and I told my mom "That guy's awesome".

usually hear some beatle tracks or another at the local health food store, usually from the white album, but also including lennons earlier stuff. totally sweet.
-
I heard Dear Prudence at a grocery store a couple of days ago. :)
-
I just heard "Something" when I stopped at the store on my way home for lunch. It was just like a few weeks ago when I was shopping and heard "Here Today" from The Beach Boy's "Pet Sounds" album. (Which surprised the heck out of me!) I looked at the people around me and wondered if any of them were as pleased as I was by what they were hearing or if it was just going in one ear and out the other.
-
This past Thursday, May 29th, Here Comes the Sun (the Beatles version) was playing in a Thai restaurant where I was having lunch with some of my co-workers (Jesup, GA).
Over this past weekend, while channel surfing at home, I paused at a movie I have never seen before (I Know What You Did Last Summer) and a cover version of Hey Bulldog (???!!!) was playing in the background of the scene.
Today, June 3, I heard No More Lonely Nights (Macca's version) playing in a grocery store (Waycross, GA).
-
Yesterday while I was driving home, Sirius radio 60s on 6 played Rain from 1966.
-
The mall I walk through to get to and from work plays background mall instrumental music. And they've done a few Beatle tunes lately. I've heard Norwegian Wood and Julia. And there's this guy who plays saxophone outside of the mall for money. I heard him playing the tune of Can't Buy Me Love recently! It was pretty neat, and unique.
-
I heard "Crying, Waiting, Hoping" while I was at a Rite Aid drugstore today. It was hard to hear it so I wasn't sure if it was George or Buddy singing at first. I finally figured out it was George. I thought that was unusual but cool.
-
Driving home from work the news radio played Paperback Writer. Sometimes Beatle songs seem to sound even better when you hear them as one offs unexpectedly.
-
Sometimes Beatle songs seem to sound even better when you hear them as one offs unexpectedly.
Yep, it's like running into an old friend.
-

Agreed. icon_good
-
I heard some earlier today, when I was listening to Rubber Soul on my ipod. It was good to revisit that album... ;D
-
My 18-y/o daughter and I were traveling toward a vacation destination in Florida, USA when we passed by a street named "Penny Lane". Guess what song was playing on the radio at that same moment in time? Nope, not Penny Lane but its flip-side - Strawberry Fields Forever! We were both ecstatic over that bit of serendipitous timing.
-
Brian Matthew, now 86 (!) but sounding exactly how he did on those BBC records, played 'Good Day Sunshine' yesterday on his Sounds of the 60s show.
-

I'll have to see if I can get that show via internet radio. I'd love to hear him!
-
"Good Day Sunshine," at WalMart. :)
-
I heard some horrible electronic cover of Lucy in the sky with diamonds at clothes store, not sure if was part of a mixed set but it was agony anyway icon_mad

Don't you just hate when that happens? I heard some girl version of "I Saw Her (Him) Standing There" when I was shopping a few weeks ago. It did not improve my mood. LOL
-
I called into my bank yesterday to pay some bills and deposit a cheque. The radio was playing softly behind the counter and one of the tellers was humming along to the tune that was playing. It was "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (the original, standard White Album version) :)
-
I went and saw the Zombies in concert last night and one of their new songs has a piece of 'Yesterday' at the end of it.
-

That's cool that you got to see The Zombies, Todd.
-
Brian Matthew (still alive!) has just played 'Twist and Shout' on 'Sounds of the 60s' and, a few songs down the line, played the original version of 'Chains' by The Cookies.
-
That's cool that you got to see The Zombies, Todd.
Thanks Kelley. Yeah, it was better then I ever thought it would be. Colin Blunstones voice is still amazing. They played the entire 'Odessey and Oracle' album for the 2nd set. Great time.
-
A double whammy today: Handle With Care by The Traveling Wilburys in one store (not technically, the Beatles, I know) and then Yellow Submarine in the next store. :)
-
I was watching Peabody and Sherman with my kids. They use Beautiful Boy (OK. It's a Lennon solo rather than Beatles).
-
Something at The Tenors concert.

Can you be more specific?

Let it Be muzak'd out in our company restroom.
-
Can you be more specific?
:P
Sure. last thursday we went into Concord, NH to see The Tenors. They're the 4 guy's that are on PBS occasionally. They were amazing to hear! @nd half of the show was on the fun side and they started off with a cover of Something and ended with a medley of Pavoratti and Elvis. I'll see if I can find some video

Is it just me???
I usually have my iPhone on Beatles Random, so it's safe to say, more than daily am I putting on a Beatles song. It could be waiting for something, popping into the washroom, taking a walk, whatever, it's usually the Beatles (but not always).
Do I have Beatleitis???
-
Do I have Beatleitis???
I think we all do! ;D
-
I heard "Hello Goodbye" on the radio tonight. The dj introduced it by saying that John Lennon hated this song that Paul McCartney wrote. I wondered which of the many possibilities I was about to hear. ;D
-
Two days ago my son watched `Yellow submarine', so I heard the music.

I really, really wish I could sit long enough to watch this movie. Love the music, but the story doesn’t do a thing for me! icon_redface

The same thing! I just listened to it, but didn't watched. My son watched. I wonder if he understand something.
-
I enjoy Yellow Submarine, it has been a while but I think it is a good way to spend a rainy saturday. The only thing, I root for the Blue Meanies and they never win...

Been having a discussion regarding Beatles mono vs stereo, so I did a solid mono cd listening test again. Although I do appreciate the 2009 mono CDs, I still refer back to the 2009 stereo CD’s.
Part of the discussions was the major flaw of the older stereo recordings with vocals on 1 channel and most of the instruments on the other. I came to the conclusion that if I wasn’t trying to hard to listen to the vocals, it really didn’t bother me, as I still preferred the overall separation in the stereo recordings overall. This test was done with my headphones. I find it’s even less noticeable with a home stereo, unless I was sitting too close to 1 of the speakers only.
My 2 cents only.... And did I mention, I was listening to the Beatles. ;D
-
On our radio they have begun playing the intro to A Hard Day's Night (or at least it sounds like it to my ears) before talking about the news or something like that. I'm fooled every time and I'm let down every time, thinking it's going to be something about The Beatles. Other than that I heard Here Comes The Sun whilst walking by a shop the other day. It made me jump with joy but I had to compose myself. ha2ha
-
I heard "If I Fell" when I was out for dinner last night. I always hear at least one Beatles song when we go to that restaurant. There's usually conversation going on all around me but somehow it gets through. LOL
-
I heard "Get Back" just as I was leaving a store today. I was tempted to stay and shop some more just for the sheer pleasure of hearing the Beatles. ;)
-

That's funny! It kind of sounds like they were begging you to return.

ha2ha That would actually be a very effective technique!
-
I'm listening to Revolver on Spotify right now.
-
I just heard "No Reply" at Walmart, of all places. It was such a pleasant surprise -- I don't believe I've ever heard that song in public before. It was hard not to sing along, loudly!

Surely, the end times are upon us.
:P
-
I'm not sure I get your point, Jim.
-
Just a goofy remark. I don't expect to hear good music at Walmart.
:)
-
Oh, OK. I'm a little slow on the uptake today, I guess. ;D
-
Don't worry about it. My goofiness can be more than a bit vague at times.
But back to the topic at hand, I haven't actually been to a Walmart for over 7 years, so what do I know about what they're playing?
Interestingly, I recently happened upon a link to a bunch of old Kmart store audio that an employee digitized and put online...
https://archive.org/details/attentionkmartshoppers (https://archive.org/details/attentionkmartshoppers)
I downloaded a couple of these and it's pretty nostalgic. And you know, they actually played some pretty decent tunes from that time between their little announcements. Cute.
:P
-
Hey, Klang, further confirmation the end times are upon us...
I was in Walmart today, 10/30/16, and playing in the Garden Center of all things was The Ballad of John and Yoko!
It was quite an interesting juxtaposition to see all of the Christmas items on display and for sale while John is singing "Christ, you know it ain't easy, you know how hard it can be, the way things are going, they're gonna crucify me..."
-
It's getting curiouser and curiouser.
:P

ha2ha Indeed!
-
When I walked into a food store shopping this afternoon the song was In my life
-
^^^
I was just going to ask what it was but I see you've edited your post and answered my question already! It seems like the programmers who provide public music are digging a little bit deeper into the catalog lately. Great choice!

I was watching an animated film, Kubo and the Two Strings, with my two boys. A better than average animated film set in Japan. The end credit song was Regina Spector doing a shamisen version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Not a bad version either.

She does do a nice version. My daughter is a big Regina Spektor fan. I'm happy that she was able to go see a live performance a few months ago.

Regina Spektor's version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is very pretty...

Other day I walked past a shop and it was playing The Long & Winding Road
-
Currently watching the Senators/Panthers hockey game, and they just played "Back In The USSR" icon_king

I heard "I Saw Her Standing There" in a restaurant this afternoon. I was already happy after a good check up with the retina specialist and that added to it. I'm always glad when that's over for the year!
-
Went out for an early breakfast in Sydney this morning. Sat down at a cafe to the strains of Gimme Some Truth followed immediately by A Day in the Life.
A good omen for the day.
-
Today, in the Waycross, GA, Walmart, I heard "Do You Want To Know A Secret"
-
All these months later I also heard a Beatles song in Walmart: Matchbox. But then when I got to the grocery store I heard I Saw Him Standing There.
I don't know if that was a real released recording or one of those cheap store songs but it's awful! Oh, it was that 80's singer Tiffany. Still don't like it!
-
Went to see America last week - they were terrible :-[
For some reason they sang Eleanor Rigby

I'm sorry to hear that Kev. Is it just the two remaining members now?
-
Yes Kel they've been a duo since the late 70's when Dan left (now deceased), they had a young guy at the back who sang some of the harder ones.
Same America song 1975 and now, same guy singing (Gerry Beckley)

anyway they certainly cant sing anymore

Today, in the Waycross, GA, Walmart, I heard "Do You Want To Know A Secret"
All these months later I also heard a Beatles song in Walmart: Matchbox.
Walmart certainly seems to be getting its musical act together; I heard "If I Fell" a few weeks back.
Oh, it was that 80's singer Tiffany. Still don't like it!
Ugh; I didn't realize she covered that. Did she ever do anything BUT covers? I still cringe when I hear her version of "I Think We're Alone Now." :-\
-

Good. With our K-mart set to close I'll have give up my anti-Walmart ways. I'll say this for them; they ended my search for a yogurt I could stand. Noosa strawberry rhubarb yogurt is fantastic!
-
I started watching a comedy, Ghost Town, which came out about ten years ago. The opening credit scenes have I’m Looking Through You as the soundtrack. It’s really unusual to hear a full original Beatle song in a film. Best you usually get is a cover.

And that brought back memories of me walking around Walmart in Honolulu earlier this year, I spent an hour in there and came out with a tube of toothpaste.
I was in Officeworks yesterday and heard this version of Every Night, a version Ive always liked.

You are a brave soul! It rained all day here today. Molly’s handling the cold quite well, except when it rains.
I hope Molly does OK this winter! Bear doesn't like rain, either, or the extreme winds.

Thanks, Kathy. These little ones have it rough.

Walmart on a weekend, aka purgatory.
Thirty years ago, Raymond felt the same way about Kmart...

Yup, that pretty much sums up my own feelings about Walmart as well as Kmart. ;D

NPD, which reports consumer data, says in 2016 95% of U.S. consumers shopped either in store or online with Walmart.

The Honolulu one is a bit of a dump, I did like TJ Max in Seattle and bought 2 shirts (we have TK Max here in Oz)

I heard "I Feel Fine" in the car yesterday after an annoying run-in with someone. Those harmonies—not just in this song, in many of them—never fail to make my heart soar.
Also, a couple of weeks ago my friends were having coffee in a coffee shop that's part of a supermarket. Over the sound of the TV news playing in the background and the shriek of the baristas' machines and the drive-thru chatter, I heard "Love Me Do" playing over the supermarket's PA system. (None of my friends seemed to notice. Darn.) I was thinking that everyone here likely has a sensitive "Beatles ear" that picks up on their music even in the presence of competing sounds. :)

Yes, Kathy, that’s been my experience. There’s a restaurant just outside of town that’s quite large with high ceilings. The acoustics are terrible. When it’s busy it can be be hard to hear the conversation if there’s more than four people at the table. Once I thought I heard something familiar and by George it was George!
-
Can’t remember which tv advert it was but Come Together was on it.

just a few minutes ago, my alarm on my phone i set to Here Comes the Sun

Excellent choice for an alarm. :)

Revolution or Helter Skelter work well as alarms also. Not pleasant. But effective.

Either of those, especially Helter Skelter, would sure as heck have me leaping out of bed. ha2ha
This would make a good thread: What Beatles song would you prefer to use as a wake-up alarm? Or something along those lines.
-
Hmm I don’t really set songs as alarms very often. I tend to take whatever the phone gives me. I did for a while have George’s Marwa Blues as that’s a gentle instrumental.
Maybe Eight Days a Week would be a good one. The way it fades up.

Same here.
I work such odd hours, and have to correspond with people in such various time zones, that I rarely even use an alarm. But when I do I tend to go with a gentle-sounding ringtone. At my age, raucous music suddenly blasting out tends to prompt heart palpitations.

I, too, was much more robust as a youth. I remember using those old clock radio alarms. Anything from the news to hard rock could suddenly pull you from sleep.

It also serves as my ringtone for calls, if I have my ringer on, typically I do not unless I absolutely am expecting a call I cannot miss

This just happened again! ha2ha Just got home. I heard "She Loves You" playing in the supermarket section. Nobody but me seemed to notice. Those Beatles harmonies just jump right at us fans, though.

Yes I almost never have an audible call signal now. 90% of calls I get now are spam anyway. Everyone texts.

I was thinking that I used to have Helter Skelter as my alarm sound but it was actually The End…all two minutes and twenty-one seconds of it.

I played a couple on the jukebox at the bar shooting some pool the other day.

Which two songs did you pick, Todd?

Kelley, you should magically beam yourself to North Dakota one of these Fridays (because, you know, it's just that easy ;D ), and then I'll have a Beatle comrade who will notice these songs, too.

Same here. Virtually all of my communication is by email or text. And I keep my phone muted nearly all the time anyway, because if a particular topic comes up in one of my text groups my phone starts blowing up, and it's hard to concentrate on work.

Hey Kelley. Imagine having this living alarm sound...

Their first US top-ten hit back in early 1982.
A great band and vocalist. Huey Lewis and The News could easily perform the song live...

I've always like Huey Lewis and the News, fun music - he did a cameo in The Blacklist a season or two ago, good guy.

Do you remember his cameo in Back To The Future?

Hey, it’s just crazy enough to work. So should I set the destination on my magic beamer to the supermarket?

That would certainly be a change of pace! But I think I’ve mentioned that I did have a live alarm, my mom. She had a repertoire that included “Lazy Mary, Will You Get Up?” Irving Berlin’s “ Oh How I Hate to Get up in the Morning” and my favorite…

I've always like their music, too, and I agree; their music is fun. It brings back so many fond memories from the 80s.
I hadn't known he did a cameo in The Blacklist or in Back to the Future.

Ahh, Reveille—brilliant choice! That never occurred to me. (I wasn't a WAVE, of course.) I used an air horn with my three. They were not happy. I had to use it only once, and after that the threat worked. ha2ha

My mom sang the Irving Berlin song to me when I was a kid.
Now, in keeping with this topic of discussion, if I had a more complicated clock radio which enabled me to have a specific wake-up alarm, I would have this Beatles song to wake me up...

Good choice. I used to play "I'm Only Sleeping" to my kids, but only in the car on the way to school.

This week it was "Get Back." I'm wondering whether the supermarket's chosen playlist must include the Beatles at a certain point in the lineup. Seems remarkably consistent.
