any1 like the jam?
« on: February 05, 2005, 09:11:18 PM »

does any1 here like the jam?

i  personally love them and think it was unfortunate that america didn't embrace them like they did with their british punk contemporaries.

they are an awesome combination of the kinks and sex pistols with a little early who.

I'm only familiar with the big hits of The Jam/Style Council/Paul Weller, but I like what I heard so far. Especially "Walls come crumbling down" (or something like that) by The Style Council...

Which albums are recommended?

to get an idea of what band the jam were, get "sound affects" and/or "gift"

i like sound affects better personally, but they're both great .

Gift is a superb album ...

and how can you say that indica lol .. Weller is well respected in the music world .. and if being a idiot means that you can write songs like, down at the tube station at midnight at the age of 19, well i certainly wouldnt mind a piece of his idiocy :)

infact the guy was writing awsome songs and recording them at the age of 16.. im not sure exactly, but the jam formed round about 1973-1974 and the guy is still going strong.. i saw him a few years ago when it toured his acoustic set .. and it was awsome to say the least.. you wouldnt believe how worshiped weller is by so many !

Weller is awesome! Seen him 3/4 times now and always pulls it off live. A real performer. One of the rare acts who can really get me going when I see them.
His Jam years were extraordinarily prolific.  The whole MOD scene rocked!....There was a few moments from his Style Council Days....Very (80-ish) But his solo stuff up until the last few albums are great band grooves.

The only thing in downside is after a long bout of listening I can grow tired of his vocals. Still that's because he has written so many tunes. lol. He takes influence from other great artists which in turn has influenced me to trace back the tree.
He is a national treasure..It is a shame he did'nt crack the U.S. but I don't mind having him all to ourselves. ;)
He has nothing to prove, although I feel he still wants to prove it...Bit too much sometimes. lol

I must agree with that. Paul Weller/Paul Weller and Wild/Live Wood are awesome to get into.

Dont get me wrong, the songs, are great, really well crafted songs...
but...(always a but :))
I just dont like the modfather image, it annoys me to a degree. With his side boards, Parker, and Mod bike, with matching target symbol on his back..its all a tad..foolish :)
Im not one for the mod movement in all its glory.

Fair one Indy...it's where he came from though. I think people attatched a lot of it on him...Plus the record companies.
