Which reminds me!  I saw Beyond The Sea a few weeks ago on cable TV.  Kevin Spacey did a perfect Bobby Darin...

He did indeed! What an amazing job he did on the vocals; I was really impressed. I love Kevin Spacey. I'll have to track that movie down, too, even if it means expanding the budget again for Netflix. My girls fell in love this summer with the Everly Brothers, and in anticipation of seeing "Jersey Boys" I have been playing them Frankie Valli/The Four Seasons. I'm positive they'd love Bobby Darin and "Beyond The Sea" as well.

You're prepping them well, Kathleen.  Well done!

Be sure to tell them about Bobby Darin before they see Beyond The Sea.  Prepare them for his family history which is somewhat surrealistically presented in the film.  He knew his life would be shortened because of his history of rheumatic fever as a child.  He packed so much into his 37 years...singing, acting and political activism.  A teen idol turned lounge singer...

That was just a few months before his death.  He had to frequently go backstage to have oxygen administered to him in order to continue his set.

In anticipation of Shark Week, the girls and I watched Open Water the other night:

Thanks! I try.  ;D

Will do. I'll have to brush up on it myself.

That was one tense movie!

It sure was! I feel bad, because I unthinkingly gave away the ending to the kids just as the movie started.

The Honeymooners - Mom the Blabbermouth

Yep, that's pretty much how it happened!  ;)

Thanks for sharing that clip, Barry; it made me laugh out loud, and after a particularly trying day. I love Jackie Gleason's facial expressions -- priceless!

Check the time marks on the YouTube progress bar, Kathleen.  She was in the apartment for exactly three minutes until the alarm went off.  Just as Ralph predicted: "I'll bet you a million dollars she won't be in this apartment three minutes before she starts an argument.  Without a word from me!"      ;D

'The Girl On A Motorcycle' (1968)

Alternatively titled 'Naked Under Leather' - I think that for a brief shining moment Marianne Faithfull was the British Bardot. Quite fetching and not a bad actor to boot. Better than Bardot.

This one rambles (on a motorcycle, of course), without much of a storyline, as is the case with many art films of the period. But it held my interest, wondering where the journey would end.

Faithfull's performance keeps it interesting. Too bad she got so messed up later on. She could have gone so much farther as an actor, I believe.

Three and a half Junior Mints.

12 Years a Slave. Tough movie. It deserves all the awards it got!

'Girl On A Motorcycle' (great soundtrack by the way) is exactly the kind of film that would have turned up on British TV about 30 years ago when we only had three or four channels. Sure, it would have been tucked away in the schedules at about 2.00 a.m., but it would have got a screening.

Now we have about 500 channels it has, along with hundreds of others (especially foreign language films) completely vanished!

Is that progress? Another case of less is more?

I'll avoid this then Kathy since being depressed and confused are two of my least favorite states. And since the title sounds like it has something to do with eyes I know my daughter won't bring it into the house. She decided not to be a vet because she knew she couldn't handle the part where she'd have to deal with ocular problems. LOL

Me too! My daughters felt the same way. We were all excited to watch it but were pretty disappointed.

Oddly enough, it was about a haunted mirror. ? I'd be interested to hear who titled the movie and why he or she chose that title.

I wouldn't want to deal with ocular problems of any type, either!  :)

Well, an oculus is an architectural feature, a round opening like an eye in a wall. A haunted mirror wouldn't just sit there on the wall. It would be like an opening that lets evil in. Spooky! And I don't want anything to do with it.  ;D

Thanks, Kelley! I guess I should have looked it up. <blush>
