Title: Guns N` Roses
Post by: Jane on November 07, 2008, 10:44:24 PM
Guns N` Roses is going to release an album called Chinese Democracy. After 14 years of silence, now that Axl Rose is back. But the word is that he has fired the original members of the band. ???

Yep, Nov. 23. Exclusively from Best Buy.

Fired? You mean the original members who were Slash, Duff, Steven and Izzy? Or do you mean the people involved with the recording of Chinese Democracy?

Well, either one is false. The original original members left, and the ones involved with the new record have not been fired, at least not that I've heard.

Oh, and by the way, if you're in America, don't forget to pick up that free Dr. Pepper!!

Axl used to be an interesting front man. Could have been one of the best. Now he's just bizarre and creepy.

And what's with the synthetic hair??

I just...I don't get it. Why do this to yourself? Is it a sickness or something? Don't get it at all.

When Axl started he was great, a very good singer. My favourite GNR song is Don`t Cry, I have it on my phone as a ringtone. Have had it already for a long time and don`t feel like changing it. It calls you so softly, that you really want to answer the phone.
But I haven`t heard anything from GNR or Axl, as he has been ruining himself. I don`t like the new look either, but it appears to be fashionable. A lot of girls do hair like that. One thing that I know for sure is that it does harm to your hair, but if one has none, which might be the case with Axl, then there`s nothing to damage...

Did he just come back from the Bahamas or something????  Really, Axl, not a good look.  Hm, not even sure if I'll get the new album.  I've heard it's supposed to be good but not 14 years worth good.

Axl might own the rights to the band's name, but without Slash and Duff it's not Guns N' Roses.

When GnR came out I really liked them because they were different to the other bands around (Motley Crue, Poison, Bon Jovi)... I thought of them becoming a great band but Axl Rose's erratic behavior messed up everything.  I think Sweet child o'mine is one of the best songs of the 80's...

Yes, at that time GN`R looked and sounded more real and tougher than all those bands of Happy or Romantic or Hair or Glam Metal.

I lost any respect for Axl Rose, but I still enjoy Slash's music with Velvet Revolver.

Guns N Roses jumped the shark when Nirvana and the grunge craze hit in '91/92.  (Remember when Axl tried to attack Kurt Cobain in Kurt's dressing room at the MTV Video awards?)  The Seattle bands, led by Nirvana, destroyed the hair bands which were dominating the charts until then.  G'n'R got trapped in the tidal wave -- they weren't really a 'hair band,' but they had so much internal turmoil that they couldn't avoid becoming as passe as Winger, Warrant, Motley Crue, Skid Row and all those other posers.

Axl should just go the solo route.  Everyone knows Guns N Roses is dead as long as Slash isn't there.

True, but the name Guns N' Roses sells more than Axl Rose. Even if everyone knows.

I don't agree. Sure Nirvana killed hair metal (and God bless 'em for that), but Guns N' Roses had outgrown that genre. They were good enough to survive any trend. The only reason why they somewhat fell from grace is simply because they stopped making records (OK, and maybe because Slash and Duff left). Not releasing a new album for 14 years would hurt anyone's carreer. Simple as that...

Axl Rose has been composing songs for the new album all that time and at long last we will have the pleasure of being introduced to the new masterpiece.

Most reviews are pretty negative though.

forget about the new guns n roses. they are NEW! everything what is new S*CKS!

here's what I think about that:

80s Guns N Roses = awesome
90s Guns N Roses = average
00s Guns N Roses = P.O.S

deal with it...

I like them all right, but I'm not a big fan. What I truly respect about them though is the fact that they were almost perfect for their time. You've got a band with plenty of appeal (glam), but that can also play their instruments and write great songs (as opposed to the lame pop-rock disguised as heavy metal of say, Motley Crue). They can rock the house, but there's also plenty of sensibility on things like Sweet Child O' Mine or Patience. In a way, GnR have a good chance of appealing to anybody - from respected critics to average rock fans and everybody inbetween.

I also feel Axl has become underrated nowadays. All the scandals bullsh*t and the huge Chinese Democracy delay overshadow the fact that he was a really good singer, song-writer and front-man back in his day. Many things on the Use Your Illusion albums I feel are more Axl than the rest of GnR, especially songs like Estranged and November Rain. Some call them pretentious and overblown (the videos surely were), but I really like the direction the band was heading - they were experimenting, trying new things when they could've easily written 3-minutes riff songs.

Just a few thoughts.

My 5th favorite band.

Their 10 best songs stack up against any band of the last 30 years. While they virtually self destructed due to Axl's behaviour, and the excesses of Duff and Slash, they will always loom large in rock history from that era.

Some of their live shows were amazing. Check some on YouTube if you haven't heard much of them.

Duff is one of my fave bassists and I love how he came back from near death by drinking to get his life straight.
