Unique Pictures of Beatles Shown After Being Forgotten for 30 Years
The Beatles' song lyrics awoke the issue of searching one's inner self in young Canadian photographer Paul Saltzman. He personally got to meet the Beatles when visiting a meditation center to learn how to meditate. In February 1968, the 23 year-old Canadian photographer stood outside a meditation center in India, knocking on the front door. He had made up his mind to learn meditation to ease the pain from a broken heart. The person who opened the door said that the meditation center was closed because of a visit from the Beatles and their friends. Saltzman, not knowing what to do, slept in a tent outside the front door until he eventually was let in.
Saltzman then spent a week together with his greatest idols. He had brought his camera, but didn't take more than 54 photos, which he after the return to Canada, forgot for 33 years. In 2000 the pictures were shown to the public in Toronto for the first time.
At the opening at Fotografiens Hus (House of Photography) in Oslo on the 3rd of November, photographer and author Paul Saltzman said,

Very interesting site, even if the guy's out to make a little money.
What struck me as odd was the commentary in which the photog mentions the Beatles playing back catalogue--along with new songs. Songs like "Michelle" and "Tomorrow Never Knows." Too bad nobody had a tape recorder going.
The pictures of the Beatles sitting around with wives/girlfriends do strike me as a little bit goofy--the poor gals don't seem to be getting into it. Poor Cynthia with the red dot on her forehead!
While the Beatles had gone to India on a spiritual retreat, it sounds like they really went there to write songs, uninterrupted by the daily concerns of Beatledom. I like the photog's quote of Lennon's making some comment about universal love, then saying, "oh well, off to write me songs."

I like those photos, they're very happy.

lost and seeking.....

I met him at the Beatles Convention in Liverpool last August - nice bloke. I got him to sign a copy of his book - great pics, much better than the usual press shots.

Yes, it's very nicely composed, and the guys look so relaxed and into it.

Looks like they're in prison though! LOL
Oh what I'd give to have a recording of that jam session!!!

Don't forget that something recorded in Rishikesh (obviously not that one but a jam with Donovan, Mike Love and others) is available on bootlegs ... and so it was on bootlegforum some weeks ago.

That song for Mike Love

And the song was written because of the long long long days in Rishikesh ... with the lots of hours of meditation and not good sleeping John began to feel tired.
