Have you been to any Beatles "landmark"? If not, what Beatle places are you dreaming of visiting? Either way, tell us about it. :)
I've only been to one: Abbey Road in St. John's Wood, London. This was about 10 years ago. I got pictures of the street sign, the famous crossing and the studios. My friends and I crossed Abbey Road the same way the Beatles did, and the pic of that was taken on my friend's camera. I never got a copy of that photo, unfortunately, and I think my friend is having a hard time finding it now. But still, my memories are wonderful. That day was a dream come true for me and I would enjoy revisiting Abbey Road again someday.
I would also love to visit Liverpool, but I don't think that's going to happen any time soon.
-
I've only been to the Dakota and Strawberry Fields in New York City. (I have a picture from there on the user pictures thread)
However I would give anything to go to London/Liverpool. My friend's family actually lives in Liverpool so they all know me as the crazy Beatles fangirl and she always brings me back souviners from there :)
-
Liverpool & London....Cavern, Empire, Abbey Rd (Inside EMI), John Lennon Airport, Saville Row, Cavendish Av.....Is all I can think of. More to do yet. :)
-
I'm so lucky being a Scouser, so everything possible associated with the Beatles and Liverpool as well as Abbey Road, London.

Wow..... I am currently turning green with envy!!
That is extremely awesome Ged 8)
And all of you guys did a good job on landmark-visiting too, very cool (wow, An Apple Beatle, you've been to loads of 'em! 8) )
Unfortunately I've never visited a Beatles landmark, and I've never even been to England :B I would really-really-really like to visit Liverpool and London... once we can afford it, KE and I will definitely go (here's hoping (grin) )
-
Abbey Road, Cavendish Ave., Saville Row. That's all I can think of.

Nice. :) Red or blue?
-
I`ve been to London, Abbey Road, and to New York, the Dakota and Strawberry Fields in Central Park. Would like to go to Liverpool one day...
-
None :'(
-
Went to the Cavern last year and stood next to the John Lennon statue on Mathew Street. Also sat next to 'Eleanor Rigby' on the bench down the road from the Cavern. Would like to go to Menlove Avenue and hope to get the chance at the end of the month - going to the Cavern again to see a band called 10 Reasons To Live - they're a Liverpool band too ;D

I should add that I want to visit Strawberry Fields in Central Park as well. I have been to NYC once, but it was a whirlwind trip and I unfortunately did not have the time to stop by the park. I bet it's a pretty emotional place to be. :( Hopefully I'll see it someday.
-
Central Park Strawberry Fields and I don't think this counts but I did go to Shea Stadium. Obviously there is nothing there that says anything Beatle related, although they did flash on the big screen for a few seconds a clip of The Beatles playing there.
-

I think Shea Stadium should count, and Candlestick Park as well. Any famous Beatles concert venue works. :)
-
Well hey I have been to Candlestick too 8)

It was intense being there, a couple of other friends and I were in tears there!
-
I live about 15 miles from Liverpool so have done every landamak there.
-
been round Liverpool 3 times now, I think I liked Sefton Park best. And the Liverpool Institute from the back cos I'd seen a Mike McGear photo of it and it still looked the same. I loved the way everything was closer together than I thought they'd be. I walked it all (well all I wanted to see) in 3 days once. Used to go round St George's Hill, Weybridge years ago before it got really private. Would love to look round Friar Park if it was ever open to the public, but don't feel the need to stand outside and look at the gates! Not done any of Beatles London. Not fussed about US or Hamburg sites - sorry guys!
-
Abbey Road
The Cavern
Menlove Avenue
Forthlin Road
The Cavern
Odion Cinema in my town in Lothian Road (I use to go there alot as it was soo cheap £1 to see a film and in my book The Beatles Archives I noticed the boys went there in 64 when they did that signing session for fans, sadly there is no plaque in the cinema.
-
Hiya Apple Beatle - i'm a blue for my sins (Just like Macca - now matter how loose the connection might be) :)
Here's a page from my website, i've done loads of these and made some friends of these fans.
http://beatlesmemorabilia.piczo.com/?g=36017947&cr=3
Look me up if ever you're in town where they were born.
I once heard a taxi driver took some Canadians to Sefton Park, telling them it was Strawberry Field because he didn't know where it was and they photographed it - disgusting - and he charged them 100 pounds for a 2 hour mini tour.
Having said that, the organised tours rush you and there's little time for personal and individual photo calls as they're bound by time - gotta get back quick for the next tour etc. They only do about 20 of the sites and some are drive-by, just pointing out of the window as the coach is too big to stop in the street or make awkward turns into small side streets.
-
I am thinking of going to Germany in January, so I could visit Hamburg now that you`ve reminded me of the place!
-
I haven't been to no Beatles' landmarks....... :( :( :'(, but I intend one day to do the whole UK tour......London, Liverpool, Cambridge, Oxford...........I may be an old woman then, but I'm gonna do it.
-
Me too Aspie. I have an Aunt that lives in Scotland that said I can come visit anytime...I should get out there and somehow get over to England. I will make it my mission. I also have a friend who lives off the coast of England that said I can stay with her anytime. It's just getting out there and all the money involved. I will do it oneday though!
-
i've visited Liverpool a number of times so i've been to Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane & round the house of
john & paul. stood outside George's house. i've yet to go to Abbey Road or any other famous spots.
-
I'm also a Liverpudlian by birth (but live in Manchester these days).
I remember the first time I did all the Beatle sites - armed with an A-Z with them all marked out, and my Mum driving!
Had a cracking night out in Liverpool the other month, too. Visited both the Grapes and the Jacaranda. The Jacaranda really is amazing - absolutely crackling with atmosphere downstairs.
-
I have never visited a Beatles landmark, but I passed by the Bag 'O Nails while on a bus tour of London. That's it really.
-
If I say I went to a place in Boston, but I didn't know what it was called, would it be Boston Place? Would THAT count?
-
Liverpool was a dream come true for me:
Grosvenor Ballroom
Seaforth Hall
Litherland Town Hall
Neston Institute
The Art College
Gambier Terrace and the Cathedral across the way.
Percy Street
Ullet Road
Quarrybank High School
Liverpudlians were warm and welcoming. Make the pilgrimage, if you can.
-
Sadly, only Abbey Road :(
-
^ But quite probably the best. ;)
-
Liverpool -- Mendips, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, Jacaranda, Matthew St., etc.
London -- Abbey Road, Marylebone Station,
NYC -- The Dakota gate, Strawberry Fields, Shea Stadium.
At Shea, I was working as a photographer and got to go down on the field. I walked in from a gate in centerfield (I know, wrong way), and the crowd was roaring at the event, and I for just beyond second base where the stage was set up, and gave a quick wave over my head like they did getting into the getaway car. Of course, no one was paying any attention to me, but it was fun. :-)
-
I've been by the former Memorial Auditorium in Dallas. They played there on the '64 tour. That's the best I can do. I thought seriously about visiting Abbey Road when I got abandoned by my "friend" in London about 15 years ago, but I thought I'd get lost ,so I didn't make it. Now I wish I'd gone all the way to Liverpool.
-
Town Hall in Abergavenny to add to me list now. Cheers Bill Harry. lol
-
I've been to New York City:
Strawberry Fields and John Lennon's apartment the Dakota.. befoe going there .... thre night before i was in a hurry to go to sleep and get ready for the trip we walked about 24 miles form where we parked just to go to Strawberry fields and i was wearing my John Lennon t-shirt :). It was worth it

I totally know what you mean!!! I definately cried when I was there! I'm planning another trip, probably in another year or so. I actally posted myself when I was at the Dakota in the User Pictures thread!
-
I forgot to mention I have been to the Hollywood Bowl too.
-
Hi HeyJude18 well when i was in front of The Dakota i was not smiling i was like in a daze becuase i was imagining how John died but my dad took some pictures of me in front of the Dakota and when i saw all of the pics i looked like i was in a bad mood and when i was still in New York ...we were walking to Mcdonald's and i bought some water and when i was drinking it ... the water spilled on me it was cold... cold i tell you that broke me out of my daze...
-
Abbey Road for me, too.
I also want to include Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver. When George Martin was recalling the talk he'd had with Epstein about how a sniper could have picked off any of "the boys" and escaped into the hills, I knew exactly what he was talking about. The rock monoliths stand all around the stone benches in the seating area, rearing black against the night sky, and it's undeveloped foothills behind.
I think it's way cool that I went to a concert where the Beatles played, albeit years before I moved here. (Seeing as I never got to see the real thing...)
-
Abbey Road. Just on the outside, unfortunately. (rolleyes)
And then I lived in Hamburg for a year. But for me, Beatles-wise, it is nothing you have to see.
-
wow Hamburg! :)
-

Has anyone visited Beatles-Platz? I think it was completed in Hamburg this year(?). http://www.daylife.com/photo/02me66laFy6yx I think the silhouette statues are pretty cool and unique.
-
Been to Abbey Road, Strawberry Fields (Liverpool) and other places plus in my town I've just realized theres a bench dedicated to John, After reading the new book The Beatles in Scotland it told me about it and found it, don't know how long it's been there but feels weird I've gone past it without realizing it, I'll prob sit on it alot

I've never been to any Beatles landmarks, but there is a street named Abbey Road and a street named Penny Lane near where I live. I haven't even been there, though. :-/
-
Euan, thats wonderful you found the bench! I Love the comment on it
-
My hubby and I finally visited Blue Jay Way... :)
The street sign was hard to find. It was posted very high up on a pole and was sort of covered by other plants. I'm sure there have been a lot of Blue Jay Way sign thefts, however, so I guess this explains why it was slightly hidden.
The name was also painted onto the curb, which was easier to spot than the sign.
Thankfully, the day was sunny so we didn't get lost in fog or anything! :P 8)
-
Eek! I love those BJW pictures, PL! Thanks so much for posting them! (I would write more, but I'm in a fog this morning...)
-
Have been to Liverpool, did the mystery tour on the bus so saw all the houses and stuff. By some almighty coincidence, the date was July 6, 1997. Exactly 40 years since John and Paul met at Woolton fete. And the bus goes past the church! Did Abbey Road in London of course.
Earlier that year, we were in the U.S and visited the Dakota and Central Park. also went to Candlestick Park in San Francisco, where the boys played their last live concert in '66. I follow the 49ers who play there. Um, we drove past Shea too.
-

You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed them. ;)

there's a fog upon the lake? LOL
-
wonderful photos of Blue Jay Wat PennyLane! ;) i think its one of the obscure beatle landmarks.
-
Another landmark in my town The Odeon Cinema Lothian Road. It used to be the ABC Cinema and I used to visit there as it used to ne a pound for a cinema ticket. I didn't realize until I read in one of my books The Beatles played there in 1964 and did a autograph session there.
http://www.scottishcinemas.org.uk/edinburgh/Images/4.jpg
Across the road is The Usher Hall were Paul & Wings performed in the 70's. It has been closed for referbished but opens again this Summer. I normally see The Bootleg Beatles in there.

Hollywood Bowl, Dodger Stadium -LA (Everyone forgets that Dodger Stadium was the second to last concert in 1966
Candlestick Park -San Francisco (Last Beatles Concert)
Strawberry Fields, The Dakota -NYC
As I live in Southern California, I need to go to Blue Jay Way.

Surprised no one has mentioned this little building on Broadway in NYC.
I tell ya, been inside only once, but must have walked by it more than a hundred times through the years. And every time I've gazed at it, and considering all the names of the entertainers and noted personalities that graced it's stage from 1948-1973 and then 1993 through today, there is just one thing that springs to mind first:
"Ladies and gentlemen...THE BEATLES!"
"2...3...4...Close your eyes and I'll kiss you, tomorrow I'll miss you. Remember I'll always be true..."

BTW, if you are ever back in NYC again, stop by that place. Just down the block and across the street is the Winter Garden Theater, where today you can catch Mamma Mia, but back in the 1970s you could have caught:
Badly cropped shot, but it appears to be the only one I could find on Google image search of the marquee back in the day...

Yeah, I have walked past it, once. Never been inside though.
I saw Shea Stadium (the old one) from the window of an airplane. (I was landing at La Guardia.)

I live near the place where The Beatles played in the Netherlands in 1964. This monument was erased some years ago to remind people of the concert.

Erased.... LOL!

I never thought I'd care to see a Beatles tribute band but last summer one one of my co-workers was talking about going to see one. "George" is a friend of her family. I watched them on YouTube and they are good! I'm going to do my best to see them this summer.
-
Abbey Road, Did the Magical Mystery Tour of Liverpool a couple of times & Candlestick Park
-
I've been to many of the 'established' UK Beatles sights. Strangely enough one that sticks in my mind was the old Kingsway Club in Southport. I knew it was where they performed live with Ringo for the first time (Along wit The Cavern the same day); anyway, I'm glad I made the effort because it burnt down a couple of months later!
I think the most off the beaten track Beatle place I've visited is the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila in The Philippines 40 years to the day after The Beatles played to their biggest ever crowd on a single day (2 performances).
-
I answered a while back ...

But an update -- did Hamburg this year. Stood in the doorway of the photo John used for "Rock and Roll." Saw the Reeperbahn, the outside of the clubs, the theater of burned-condom fame, etc. It was OK. Yes, BeatlePlatz, for the person who asked. Nothing really special about it.
-
THE ONLY THING CLOSE FOR ME IS WENT TO THE RANCH IN DALLAS WHERE LINDA AND PAUL BOUGHT A HORSE THEN FLEW HIM TO THE UK
-
being born and raised in Speke, a few streets away from Upton Green, I've visited pretty much every landmark in Liverpool.. I'm playing at The Cavern in August with my Uncles band, it's the only way I can get in because I plan on visiting every landmark in 'pool before I'm 16.. Also, I go to Calderstones High School, which you may know as Quarry Bank :D

I am very lucky Applescruffy 96... Maybe i`m going also next year to Liverpool. It`s a one hour flight from Amsterdam to Liverpool and it`s very cheap. Thank you for welcoming me.. ;-)
But i also want it to visit Hamburg and London as well, but London is very expensive. A beatle taxi tour is about 99 pounds for a 2 hours tour. In Liverpool i paid 50 pounds for a 4 hour beatles tour.
But i want to visit the abbey road studios before i die ;-) hehehe...

Very cool !!
On a visit to Liverpool a couple of years ago I stayed at the Hampton Hilton hotel at Liverpool airport. A tourist information worker outside the airport just happened to mention in the conversation we were having that the housing estate you could see near the airport was Speke and that is where George and Paul both lived when they were young. I had no idea, so of course had to go over for a quick visit! ;D

I know exactly where you're talking about and I live round the back of the estate (if it's the one you're thinking of) but sadly I'm moving to Allerton to be closer to school. I say sadly, just because I love Speke, but I'm kinda still happy 'cause Paul lived in Allerton :D
