According to IMDB, it will be directed by Bronwen Hughes: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0400486/#indev

Here's the description of the film from IMDB: "For forty years, every band has wanted to be bigger than the Beatles. This is the true story of the one band that was...and its leader, Rory Storm.": http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1344339/

I think it's exciting because Rory Storm + The Hurrianes was one of the top bands in the Liverpool music scene of the late 50s and early 60s...and of course, Ringo was their drummer and made a name for himself in Liverpool. I really wanna see Nowhere Boy too. They should do a sequel to Nowhere Boy about The Beatles years. LOL!

An old poster I found on a different form while google searching of the Kaiserkeller Klub where Rory Storm + The Hurricanes had top billing above The Beatles:

Some info on Ringo's days with the band....

On January 2 1964 Mersey Beat ran a story called 'The Ghost Of Ringo Haunts This Group.' : "Virtually every night of the week, Rory Storm & the Hurricanes perform at venues in the North. But something seems to be missing. Rory, Ty, Lu and Johnny seem to swing together, but the drummer always seems to be the odd one out.

"It has been this way since August 1962 when Richard Starkey left the group.

"Says Rory: 'Ringo was with us for more than four years. When the group first started, only ourselves and the Bluejeans were known on the Mersey scene - we were the first rock group to do the rounds.'

"At the time Ringo was a member of the group, the Hurricanes were regarded as one of Merseyside's leading outfits, and in the first Mersey Beat poll they were placed fourth.

"During the four or five years Ringo was with us he really played drums - he drove them. He sweated and swung and sung.

"'Ringo sang about five numbers a night, he even had his own spot - it was called 'Ringo Starrtime.' Now he's only a backing drummer. The Beatles' front line is so good he doesn't have to do much. This is not the Ringo Starr who played with us.

"When Ringo first joined the Hurricanes (we were called the Raving Texans then) he didn't have any rings and we just called him Ritchie.

"During our first year at Butlin's we all chose fancy stage names and that's when he became Ringo Starr.'

This next group contains three Beatles related historical documents. First is a concert ticket to the Rory Storm Birthday Bash with the Beatles playing live. This one is interesting because it came just one month, 9/31/62, after Ringo left the Hurricane to join the Beatles. Plus a Rory Storm and the Hurricane business card and a Star Club bill for Tony Sheridan.

I was approached many years ago by an American film company which wanted to make a feature film about Rory Storm. Then they said that Hollywood wouldn't accept such a tragic ending to a film. It's a pity that its a purely American project as I think a British insight is needed. British film-makers don't make the films about Ray Charles, Jerry lee Lewis, Budddy Holly etc as they are essential American idols.

No, but I've been involved in numerous programme and have been programme assistant and helped in many TV documentaries about the Beatles and Mersey Scene. Rory and all the members of the Hurricanes were friends of mine. I saw their gigs, socialised with them, have written what I regard as the most detailed account of Rory's life and career. Do I suppose you are hinting that someone who never knew him, who is in the business of producing something that often sacrifices facts to jazz up the truth is likely to bring about a movie that in any way resembles what really happened?

I remember creative writing class, and being told most Americans prefer Cinderella fairy-tale endings.  I always thought that mindset was so unfortunate, and that's not the type of ending I prefer at all, as it's generally not true to life.

I guess it shows another cultural difference - Americans prefer positive, upbeat endings while Brits prefer the grim realities of life. I'm not sure which is the healthier, but Brits can tend to be a bit on the negative, life-is-sh*t side at the best of times. Can't see anything wrong with a bit of optimism.

Nope I was just wondering why they approached you for the project. That must have been awesome to be around Liverpool at that time. As far as I know, there have never been any films that explored the Merseybeat before the British Invasion, so that's why I'm interested in this film.

BTW, I just noticed you're the same Bill Harry from the article I referenced above. That's so cool.  8)

I was programme assistant on 'Beat City', the documentary about Liverpool filmed at the time and showing performances at the Cavern and other places of Rory Storm & the Hurricanes, Faron's Flamingos, the Chants etc. There was Ferry 'Cross the Mersey. Oasis are now considering making a film of the last days of the Beatles.
I have tried for nearly 20 years to get film-makers interested in a feature film of Mersey Beat, recreating what the scene was actually like. A film company said yes, but felt the scope was so big it should be a TV series. We got the no. 1 British TV writer involved, who knew the scene then and lived below John and Stu in Gambier Terrace. The film company placed the project with the BBC, who said they were interested. They held onto it for three years and then took the name and used it for a tired, unsuccessful cop series.
This sort of practice with TV channels is quite common I'm told.

Mmm, that sort of sucks. I wonder if this film will ever see the light of day.
