Hollywood Bowl CD
« on: July 16, 2010, 01:29:50 PM »

I came across a 2 CD set called the Complete Hollywood Bowl Concerts. I don't remember any "official" release of these performances other than the abbreviated 1977 releases on LP and cassette.

Is this set official? Was there any digital overhauling to improve the sound? This set doesn't sound much better than original releases, but I figured with the advancement in engineering in leaps and bounds since the analog 70s, there could be some improvements made.

Anybody have any info on this?

I kind of figured that. I think that would be some unfinished business Emerick could do. Further improvements might be possible to reduce the "jet engine" noise factor on those tapes with today's digital technology.

I have a 3 cd set from Russia I believe. Sounds no better than the album, but thats the appeal to me. I kind of dig the crowd noise.

I wonder when they are going to give that album an official CD release?

I know - I wish EMI/Apple would release it. It's still one of my favourite Beatles albums.
I have the official vinyl copy, but I only ever play my bootleg CD version, which is the Purple Chick 2-CD set "Hollywood Bowl Deluxe".

Are these Hollywood Bowl songs the only officially released EMI Beatles recordings still not available on CD?

They deleted the vinyl in the early 90's because they were releasing live stuff on the Anthology. Or something of the sort.
