Well then what would you say?
-
I voted 4 give me love, but my sbsolute favourite is 'Beautiful girl'... Cheer down is also fantastic.
-
Got My Mind Set On You is my absolute favorite George Harrison song.
-
I voted for My Sweet Lord. I think that George did beautiful guitar playing on this song. :)
-
I like Wah Wah
-
"Let It Down".
-
His Name Is Legs
-
My Sweet Lord. I agree with becky, he does some gorgeous guitar work and he also emotes so well in this song.
-
I would have to say a tie between Let it down and Wah Wah. I love those two songs, I think its some of George's best work.
-
"Give Me Love" is my favourite solo Harrison song :D
-
Isn't It a Pity and All Things Must Pass
-
My Sweet Lord is George's signature tune as a solo artist but Crackerbox Palace is one of his most underrated classics & a GREAT song.
-
All THose Years Ago
-
Beware of Darkness and Art of Dying
-
There was a song he sang about a castle.. or something like that... no wait! I remember it now! Crackerbox Palace... yes, I believe that's the title. I love that song, it's goofy but I love it.
Though his best solo work is All Things Must Pass. I also love Material World... and of course, My Sweet Lord! That's a great tune.
-
My Sweet Lord is George's signature tune as a solo artist
kind of how Johns is imagine. I cant really think of a signature solo tune for Paul and Ringo tho. I voted for My Sweet Lord, I Live For You is a close 2nd
-
Maybe I'm Amazed or Live and Let Die for Paul. Ringo is easy: It Don't Come Easy
-
georges solo stuff is very good in fact
-
Give me Love, Is my favorite.
-
All things must pass
-
Im really liking Awaiting on You All right now
-
Im really liking Awaiting on You All right now
It sounds 60s, doesn't it?
My favourite one from him has always been Run Of The Mill but the best could be All Things Must Pass.
-
I don't know George's solo stuff that well. Difficult to choose, but, Simply Shady on the Dark Horse album is really good.
-

yeah but that's probably why I like it
-
Awaiting On You All and Apple Scruffs could be stuff from their early years very well. I love the album and I've always wondered how it would be if it'd have been recorded by the guys as a unit. :-/
-
well it was basically stuff George had written during the last phase of the Beatles wasn't it?
-

Yes, it was, but with a definetely 60s touch. I was wondering what about the guys recording in 1970 George's stuff, with their touch,but... "the dream is over" (1970).
-

I can only dream how good it would of been
-
I miss some things: harmonies from John and Paul and Paul's bass specially. I don't like the production (damned Spector's Wall of Sound!) but I like the 200 o version George made.
-
really? I think he ruined a classic with that version
-
really? I think he ruined a classic with that version
George didn't like the production Spector made. It's old-fashioned, somehow. I like the 2000 version because of the production (no so many guitars) and the slide.
-
His vocals just dont seem so great on that version
-
He was ill and going through a cancer of throat. :-/ .His slide is ,... is ,... is just George!!
-
I'm quite fond of alternate versions of classics that George did with others.
Here Comes The Sun w/ Paul Simon
Dream w/ Bob Dylan
Anything from the Japan tour he did with Clapton
-
It's probably just me, but I am lovin' "Isn't It A Pity?" (either version) off All Things Must Pass.
-
Very good song, but long for my taste. It bores me some parts of it, ... just waiting for the last two minutes that are great. I can't stand version 2 however.
-
same here one version was enough
-

Your f***ing bogartin', man! Bogartin' I say! Bloody bogart, you!
-
My Sweet Lord sounds like George embarking on his new solo career with the uptempo sound and that.
My Sweet Lord 2000 sounds to me like he kind of knows that it's nearly over, therefore he comes full circle with a slower more mournful remake.
-
Your f***ing bogartin', man! Bogartin' I say! Bloody bogart, you!
Very nice words of you ... sorry for the delay
P.S. Even now, I'm saying what I thinking (not thinking -of linking- what I'm saying)
-
Oh, good grief! :D Another impossible poll!
George's solo work is so varied, this list would have to be 20 choices long, and I still don't think you'd come close to picking everyone's favorites.
I'm going to be really rigorous and just pick:
ATMP 1: What Is Life and Let It Down
ATMP 2: Beware of Darkness and Hear Me Lord
Brainwashed: Pisces Fish and... and... the whole rest of the album! ;D
Seriously, on both these albums, there's not a song I would skip (except the remake of MSL but that doesn't really count).
But as for songs that just come out of the blue, "Cheer Down". I still remember hearing that in the theatre and sitting bolt upright and saying "George!" (I think I even said it out loud.) :B Great song, and always makes me feel happy.
-
I voted for My Sweet Lord. I've always liked Got My Mind Set On You, especially the video which was a hoot!
-
There are simply too many. But i'll have to go While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Lovely words, music and voice
-
You've got really good taste, Kaleidoscope_Eyes ;) ... what about his best solo song? ;D
-
Give me love or My sweet Lord.
-
What is Life?
I've always loved it :)
-
Ooh, I love that one, too. I usually play it off the ATMP CD, and then follow it with the music-only version (because once is not enough).
The trouble with George's songs is that there are so many of them that I truly enjoy, it really depends on my mood. I can't say I have a clear favorite; sometimes one or another appeals most. Cheers!
-
OH, SO MANY GEORGE SONGS TO CHOOSE FROM!!
Well , I vote for Give Me Love because i love the meaning
of the lyrics & his voice is so beautiful on it. (George was an amazing singer).
Also the guitar solo on his is perfect! No one plays guitar like that now!
-
You've got really good taste, Kaleidoscope_Eyes ;) ... what about his best solo song? ;D
Oh oops! Best solo.... ummm.... Beware of the Darkness
Ps. Do i still have a good taste, raxo? ;)
-

Oh, yeah! ;D ... and anybody would agree, Kaleidoscope_Eyes!!! ;) ... it's a favourite of Eric Clapton too! :)
-
Actually, So Sad is also a fave George solo for me
-
The version of Wah-Wah on Concert For Bangladesh.
-
for me it always be not only one
Georges famousts song is My sweet Lord - it's beautiful
But I prefer Fish on the Sand, Any Road, Cloud Nine, Stuck inside Cloud and Brainwashed ...
And so on and so on ...
Still can't decide ... cause I love all George's solo songs !
George is such a great artist ... I just love his voice and tone of his guitar
-
I love "Cheer Down"
-
This is Love
-
This is Love
Yeah, one of George's best songs, beautiful tune!
-
For me it has to be Give Me Love.
-
this one is difficult... but the first solo-song i really fell in love with was ballad of sir frankie crisp. this one is amazing, as is give me love (this one can change my mood completely and makes me so happy sometimes) and art of dying.
including his beatle-songs too it must be while my guitar gently weeps. for sure.
well... and i've to mention if not for you.... and i got my mind set on you. i LOVE this song and it has to be said ^^
-
I don't think I could pick one... there all so fantastic!
-
To me his best solo song is Stuck Inside a Cloud, sometimes I cry when I listen to it. I still don't understand how Brainwashed sold so badly.
-
[...]I still don't understand how Brainwashed sold so badly.
I think it's one of his best albums ... very melodic and some songs are awesome: he was composing really well a-gain!!!
-

Well, that could be because George's albums didn't sell really well after the early 1970's I think.
-
Who is George Harrison anyway?
-
Who is George Harrison anyway?
The Beatles' sitarist.
-
The beetles? Sitarist?
-
Hear me Lord,Crackerbox Palace, Love Comes To Everyone,Learning How to love you, Run of the mill, Isnt it A pity,Stuck inside a cloud, Any Road,Far East man,Its What You Value, Beautiful Girl, Blow Away, Beware of darkness,Cockamamie business

yeah, one of his best! :)
-
Well, that could be because George's albums didn't sell really well after the early 1970's I think.
Sorry, but Cloud Nine sold respectably when was released in 1987. I guess it sold 2-3 million copies, and provided a #1 US single and another Top 40 hit. Considering that Brainwashed was his first album since 2002 (and defnitely his last album, I mean, he's dead! :B), it deserved to be at least an UK/US Top 10 hit. What a shame. Lack of promotion I suppose. ::)

From good ol' Wiki :
"Part of Harrison's strategy for his comeback was making himself seen. He appeared with Starr at the Prince's Trust Concert that June performing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and was actively involved in promoting the upcoming album."
I think on the basis of one hit the album did as well as expected.
-
I was never surprised that Brainwashed didn't sell that well. George was hardly a self publicity machine like Macca. He hadn't had a solo album out for 15 years, and The Wilbury's were long forgotten by that time. He'd done one short tour in Japan in the early 90's, and one gig at The Albert. Hardly putting yourself in the public eye.
-
I found Brainwashed recorded at 500,000 units, so it's probably got a gold listing somewhere, but as I can't remember the date that number is not very meaningful. (I can't find the source now in my files.)
Wingsman, where did you find the sales info for Cloud Nine?
I wrote some other stuff today about Beatles record sales here (reply #4):
http://www.dmbeatles.com/forums/b-mccartney/m-1193965328/
-
I also enjoy Blow away, Faster and All those years ago.
;D
-
I always thought it was funny that 'I Got My Mind Set On You' reached #1 and it was freaking cover tune.
-
I think most of the listening public lost its taste after the 60s, and we entered the Age of Confusion. There is no other explanation in my mind for the phenomena of disco and rap.
Fortunately, the other songs on Cloud Nine are so strong, I don't care (actually I do, but I'll pretend I don't) that what people wanted to hear was (steels self), "I Got My Mind Set On You". Buyers got "Cloud 9", "That's What It Takes", "Fish on the Sand" -- heck, the whole album is good. I even particularly enjoy the bonus track "Shanghai Surprise", to my complete... surprise. Wonderful arrangement. I don't want to ever see this movie; it might spoil the song for me. :)
-
Beware of Darkness
-
I like Crackerbox Palace :)
-
I like Crackerbox Palace :)
Great guitar on that! :)
-
Agree Andy :)
-
Isint it a pity is great!
-
"All Things Must Pass," best heard in its original February, 1969 demo form. "Crackerbox Palace" is a great one, too. :)
-
I love Isn't it a Pity, All Things Must Pass, and Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth). They're so underrated! I mean, are they EVER played on radio?? Ever?? Why only My Sweet Lord? What's that about?
-

It's radio programmers playing it safe: give the audience the same old thing they've liked before over and over again until they get sick of it and stop listening. Then give them something else over and over again until they get sick of that, too. And so on. By the sound of them, most radio stations have astonishingly short playlists. :-/
-
"What is Life"is a nice song.
-
WHEN WE WAS FAB!
-
all things must pass and all those years ago
-
You.
-
"What Is Life" is my favorite from the ones listed above. But my absolute favorite has to be "Life Itself". It's so beautiful yet so overlooked, I also love Beautiful Girl, Behind That Locked Door and Sat Singing (a rejected track from Somewhere in England)
-
I like Crackerbox Palace :)
Me too :)
I also really like Art of Dying, I've Got My Mind Set on You, Beware Of Darkness
-
Art of Dying is one of George's finest songs! :)
-
Kind of a strange batch of songs to represent George's "best."
"That Is All" and "Not Guilty"? Why no "Blow Away"? "Beware of Darkness"? "When We Was Fab"? Or some of his biggest hits, "Got My Mind Set on You" or "All Those Years" Ago"?
But my favourite would have to be "All Things Must Pass."
-
You're right, Dbone828, it's kind of a small list. Of the ones mentioned, "That Is All" and "What Is Life?" along with "Beware of Darkness" would be at the top of my list, followed by "Blow Away" and "All Those Years Ago". It really depends on my mood. But I like so many of George's songs, it's hard to choose. :)
-
I like Art of Dying and What Is Life the best.
-
Not great songs but i love "deep blue" and "Miss o'dell"
-
I think All Things Must Pass is the best solo song
-
From his solo career...
My Sweet Lord
-
All Things Must Pass, always. The lyrics are beautiful and the tune is gorgeous.
Art of Dying and That's What It Takes are very close seconds.
-
Give me Love (Give me peace on earth) or What is Life
-
What Is Life.

Solo? My Sweet Lord. I first heard the Billy Preston version during Concert For George; then I fell in love with the All Things Must Pass album.
Beatle song, though, is Blue Jay Way: http://www.simplybeatles.com/ (http://www.simplybeatles.com/)
I named my Beatles blog after that song.
-
Beatle song, though, is Blue Jay Way
I thought you might say that! ;) I like it too. Welcome to the forums!
-
I'd have you anytime
When we was fab
Blow away
-
Not sure if it's his "best" song, but one that always got me was "All Those Years Ago". He was such a great, expressive slide player. Something about the way he plays slide guitar on that song always got me a little teary-eyed. Not only because it was a tribute to John, but just the slide guitar itself seemed to express everything people were feeling. Great playing, and distinctive George.
-
Who is George Harrison anyway?
ha2ha ha2ha ha2ha
-
How's it going everyone? Favorite George Harrison song? Everyone already mentioned them so I'll say I love them all! Take care.
