I like those songs, Moogmodule; thanks for posting the links so we could take a listen.
A few others came to mind:
Sally Simpson - The Who
Tommy, Can You Hear Me? - The Who
Dr. Jimmy - The Who
Avenging Annie - Roger Daltrey
As for picking my top 3 favorites, I had to exclude the Beatles or else I never would have narrowed it down, but my choices would likely be
~Johnny B. Goode
~Hey Joe
~Suite: Judy Blue Eyes

excellent, thanks for playing. No matter how much we all listen to music, Beatles and others, there are still songs that you have forgotten about over the years and get reintroduced or songs you never "really" knew. I will be checking out the Who/Daltry songs you list above to reintroduce myself to them.

By the way, Runaround Sue was cleaned up for the recording session. When the Belmonts sang the song on street corners in The Bronx before they made it big, these were the lyrics they sang...
0:33 - slut, slut, slut, slut
1:33 - Sue goes to bed with other guys

My Michelle - GNR
I’m Mandy, Fly Me - 10cc (one of the best songs ever written IMO)

Interesting; I didn't know that.

I lived near the Belmont section of The Bronx for five years. It wasn't uncommon to see four or five teenagers singing Doo-Wop songs on street corners. Some of those teenagers, then, still do today...

Anyway, in the Belmont area of The Bronx, "loose girls" were given names like "Tremont Tramps," "Pelham Pigs" and "Sedgwick Sluts" depending on where they lived.
Yes, early on The Belmonts sang uncensored versions of the songs Dion wrote on street corners.

Dion loved to sing about women...

Nice! When I worked in DC there was a guy who would sing outside of Union Station. I saw him nearly every day and usually contributed. To my untrained ear, he had a fantastic voice. It made the commute a little more bearable.

Vanessa Simmons - Barclay James Harvest
Apparently John Lees wrote this lovely song about a girl at his school who he always suspected of loneliness.

A few others came to mind just now:
Roxanne - The Police
Sherry - The Four Seasons
Walk Away Renee - The Left Banke (sic)
Hey Porter - Johnny Cash
OK. . . I'm not sure why I included that song given that it doesn't have a name in the title. roll:)

This thread has been sort of lurking at the back of my mind. I thought of two more:
Cathy's Clown - The Everly Brothers
Hats Off to Larry - Del Shannon (I never realized this was sung by Del Shannon!)

He wrote the song too...

I mentioned this before but Del Shannon also wrote I Go To Pieces. The Searchers passed on recording it but Peter and Gordon had a top ten hit with it in late 1964...

1960
Those are The Crickets (Sonny Curtis - guitar, Jerry Allison - drums, Joe B. Mauldin - bass) backing The Everly Brothers
-
^
Seeing The Crickets backing The Everlys reminds me that after we lost Buddy Holly, several singers tried to fill the void. One of them was Tommy Roe singing Sheila...

...and sounding very much like Buddy Holly.

Another was Bobby Vee...eee

Bobby Vee sounded a whole lot better when he stopped trying to sound like Buddy Holly and sang Please Don't Ask About Barbara...

Fortunately, there are no songs that remind me of exes, except my two wedding songs, which remind me of the worst ex of all and which I assiduously avoid.

The Buckingham's Susan very accurately describes my 1968-9 relationship with Susan...

But then, now again, not too many can be like you, fortunately
That's a line I added to my repertoire years ago.

But to live outside the law, you must be honest
That line still rings true today.

Kev, I didn't know that until 1988 when Past Masters Volume 2 was released on CD. I turned off the left channel on my stereo to hear what they were singing as back-up vocals...and there it was! ;D

Yeah, I know. But ever since I first heard John and George singing "Frère Jacques" as backing vocals, I think of the song's title as Frère Jacques. ;D
