Roger Daltrey: Backstage Experience
« on: October 10, 2011, 07:48:56 AM »

Last night I had the amazing opportunity to be backstage at the Roger Daltrey concert in St. Louis.

Binky's (Roger Daltrey & Simon Townshend's guitar tech) first job was with Stone the Crows as their guitar technician. He was with the Crows in the Les Harvey days and continued being their GT when Jimmy McCulloch joined the band.

As many of you know, I am a huge fan of Jimmy's and am currently working on a project concerning his life & career.

I had the opportunity to interview Binky before the show about JM and that's how I got the backstage pass and got to see the show from backstage. It was really neat to see Binky at work. The man is top notch!

After the interview, he invited my girlfriend and I go eat dinner with him which was very nice.

We stayed for a while after the show & hung out with Binky on the tour bus. Awesome!! I'd never been inside a tour bus before and was blown away. I also gave him some news articles/interviews that Jimmy did throughout his career as well as a couple of dvds.

When it was time to go, he said that I had his phone number and if I ever needed anything to just give him a call.

Binky also gave me the setlist for the show as well as one of Simon Townshend's guitar picks as a souvenir.

Here's the backstage pass sticker.

Sorry for the crappy quality but iconic.

Setlist and guitar pick.

How's it going JimmyMcCullochFan? I hope all is well with you. I LOVE THE WHO! I have seen THE WHO live quite a few times, here are some as follows:

(1.) Winterland Arena - San Francisco, California - Saturday, 27 March 1976
(2.) Oakland Coliseum - Oakland, California - Saturday & Sunday, 19 & 20 April 1980
(3.) Oakland Coliseum - Oakland, California - Monday, 25 October 1982
(4.) Oakland Coliseum - Oakland, California - Tuesday & Wednesday, 29 & 30 August 1989
(5.) MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las Vegas, Nevada - Friday, 29 October 1999
(6.) Autowest Amphitheatre - Sacramento, California - Thursday, 4 July 2002

I know that I have more because I've seen them in San Diego, California as well as Los Angeles, California. Take care.

Excellent! Sounds like a great experience.

I have been lucky enough to meet Roger Daltrey a couple of times because the Who tribute band I play in does work for Teenage Cancer Trust, of which he is the patron.
Myself and the rest of my band went to see Roger on the 2nd night of the UK leg of his Tommy tour earlier this year and went backstage afterwards. I had also been down to London in March to see him at the Royal Albert Hall. It's a fantastic show he puts on - it really brought Tommy to life for me. I always loved the album but seeing it performed like that, track by track, was something else again.

And I'm very jealous of you BeatlesForever  ;) - I wish I had seen The Who when Keith Moon was still in the band. The first time I got to see them was 1996 when they played Quadrophenia in Hyde Park, London, and I have seen them a few times since then. But nothing would compare to seeing the original line-up. I bet that was great!

Hi Peterbell1! How are you? There's nothing like seeing the original WHO lineup! Moonie (Or Moon the Loon) was one hell of a drummer when he was healthy. John Entwistle was also a great asset to THE WHO. I also have one hell of a story to tell before, during and after THE WHO concert in 1976. I get the feeling that I will be telling it soon. Take care Peterbell1.

I'll be telling it soon, it'll be another crazy story. The majority of all of the ticket stubs (Out of hundreds) that I look at, there's a story behind all of them. There are some ticket stubs that I look at that I don't even remember what happened at the show until someone told me the next day.

Hi JimmyMcCullochFan! Can this be the 9 October 2011 show that you saw in St. Louis? I'm not sure, it doesn't give the date or place on Youtube. Does this setting look familiar?
