Microscope: Unfinished Music #2: Life With The Lions
« on: October 04, 2012, 07:27:17 PM »

This album is a major improvement compared to Two Virgins. There is even the use of real music instruments and there's singing!

Cambridge 1969
Yoko is exploring the possibilities of her voice, while John is trying to figure out how distortion works on his guitar. Yoko is trying to imitate a dying wulf, a kicked dog and a howling cat. There's moments when John and Yoko are almost in tune accidentally! Pure magic. The song is 26 minutes which is a bit short to expect more accidents like that.

No Bed For Beatle John
Yoko is surprising her fans with an à capella song in a Gregorian style. The story is about John giving his hospitalbed to an emergency case when he was there to be with Yoko who had problems with her pregnancy. Well, it's a song. A very bad one, but it's a song.

Baby's Heartbeat
Five minutes of the sound of John and Yoko's unborn child's heartbeat. The fact that they lost their child due to a miscarriage doesn't make it an enjoyable thing. I'm glad Yoko keeps her mouth shut.

Two Minutes Silence
Best song on the album and it's not even an original idea.

Radio Play
John switching the radio on and off. The thing is a bit long, over twelve minutes. That's twelve minutes too long.

All in all, a waste of production time and talent. And a waste of vinyl.

Wow, it sounds like it's a masterpiece in comparison to the previous album! ;D

Is this a longer version of "Nutopian International Anthem"?

God no. Besides the fact that they're pretty rare, it's a waste of money anyway. If I had bought it, it would be just for collection purposes. And I'm not that much of a collector.

May be. But why over five minutes? It's annoying. But hey, if art was meant to loosen ANY feeling, this album is a great piece of art if you catch my drift.

I just don't particularly want to hear it, although I'll get around to it perhaps one day when I've heard everything else or something.

Maybe the uptake is a little disappointing but I'm sure once the albums turn into fully formed songs then there will be good discussions.  ;D

I think I've got that somewhere .... not much of an improvement on John & Yoko's albums actually as far as I can remember ..

What was that George said about avant-garde .. ? "Avant-garde a clue!"

and yet better than Mind games according to Rolling Stone who said of it (Mind Games)..

"his worst writing yet" and found Lennon to be "helplessly trying to impose his own gargantuan ego upon an audience ... waiting hopefully for him to chart a new course".
