Of course I love them! They were a big part of the soundtrack of my teenage years, thanks to their ubiquitous presence on American radio. I never actually bought any of their records but they still bring a smile to my face whenever I hear them.

There's something weird about ABBA. Whenever I hear one of their songs on the radio, there's a good chance I'll turn up the volume. But then again, I'm not the slightest bit interest in checking out their albums. I don't really know why that is. I don't think there are a whole lot of people on this planet who have them as their all-time favorite group, but you won't find many people who dislike them either. I know a few people who are into pretty heavy/extreme music and generally don't really care for pop music, but still have a soft spot for ABBA. While ABBA is about as pop as pop gets.

Favorite songs: The Winner Takes It All and Lay All Your Love On Me.

"Sublime" is the perfect adjective for Fernando, glass onion.  Originally recorded in Swedish by Anni-Frid Lyngstad for her solo album Frida Ensam in 1975 it sounded like this...

Anni Frid Lyngstad "Frida" *Fernando (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yXEcOPyt6U#ws)

and there was a tango rhythm take as well...

ABBA Undeleted Fernando Tango (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHoHgbGgNG8#)

Your feelings mirror mine, Joost.  In the 1970s, I listened to 60s stuff because I couldn't tolerate disco.  But ABBA just sounded so nice that I would turn up the volume too when they came on.  And that was quite often from 1974 until the early 1980s.

The Winner Takes It All and When All Is Said and Done sort of chronicled their divorces.

I felt exactly that way for the longest time. Then, a few months ago I happened to catch their film 'ABBA: The Movie' on TV and became terribly impressed by the live performances it showed. This sparked my interest and I gathered all of their studio albums to get the whole picture. Very enjoyable. So...that's it. They were very good at what they did. Sort of like The Beatles, they quit while they were ahead.

Whats there not to like. They had two gorgeous girls that could sing and shake they're butts around plus the group sang catchy tunes. I like them, but only own a greatest hits album. I dont think I could go much further than that though.

Both Frida and Agnetha were stunning!  And they both had beautiful voices.

ABBA is the fourth best-selling popular music artists in recorded music history.  Watching videos like The Winner Takes It All and When All Is Said And Done was disturbing.  ABBA never officially broke up.  They just stopped performing together.

Bugs me all this re-uniting rubbish, (like with the Beatles) it would never be as good, and just for commercial reasons ie $$$$$$$

I admire Agnetha in that interview Barry when she says 'get back together for what, we did it all'

some bands should stay away from re-uniting, everything was done when they were together

Aha! So Swedish is just English backwards. Maybe now I can finally learn to speak it. My cousins in Sverige will be so impressed.

I wonder if the statement below (from Wikipedia) could have applied to the Beatles if Paul had never made his announcement.

Quote
ABBA has never officially announced the end of the group, but it has long been considered dissolved.

Well, for about ten years unfortunately.   :(
