Heh, sorry about the long waits in between, but yeah, a lot of us skip over this section unfortunately. I don't. I simply forget about it.
-
That is a REALLY good site with loads of great downloadable Mersey tracks - some which are quite difficult to find! Well researched histories of many of the well known (and not so well known) groups of the Merseybeat era (check out The Big 3).
WELL worth a look.
Cheers PC ;D

That site is sweet. I hardly know anything about those bands, but that just shows my ignorance.
PC has my vote as the tutor for this site. I need to do me some learning.

What REALLY annoys me about all the different versions of "Do You Love Me" is the "push push" backing vocals - where the hell did that come from? The original Contours version is "work work" which ties in the next line "work it all baby". As far as I know only the Dave Clark 5 use the correct lyrics - by far the worst version is by Brian Poole and the Tremeloes, the best is by the Contours... in my humble opinion of course!
DO YOU LOVE ME (Berry Gordy)
You broke my heart
'Cause I couldn't dance
You didn't even want me around
And now I'm back, to let you know
I can really shake 'em down
Do you love (I can really move)
Do you love (I'm in the groove)
Ah do you love (do you love me)
Now that I can dance (dance)
Watch me now, oh (work, work)
Ah, work it all baby (work, work)
Well, you're drivin' me crazy (work, work)
With a little bit of soul now (work)
I can mash-potatoe (I can mash-potatoe)
And I can do the twist (I can do the twist)
Now tell me baby (tell me baby)
Mmm, do you like it like this (do you like it like this)
Tell me (tell me)
Tell me
Do you love me (Do you love me)
Now, do you love me (Do you love me)
Now, do you love me (Do you love me)
Now that I can dance (dance)
Watch me now, oh (work, work)
Ah, shake it up, shake it (work, work)
Ah, shake 'em, shake 'em down (work, work)
Ah, little bit of soul now (work)
(work, work)
Ah, shake it, shake it (work, work)
Ah, you're driving me crazy (work, work)
Ah, don't get lazy (work)
I can mash-potatoe (I can mash-potatoe)
And I can do the twist (I can do the twist)
Well now tell me baby (tell me baby)
Mmm, do you like it like this (do you like it like this)
Tell me (tell me)
Tell me
Do you love me (Do you love me)
Now, do you love me (Do you love me)
Now, do you love me (Do you love me)
(Now, now, now)
(work, work)
Ah, I'm working hard baby (work, work)
Well, you're driving me crazy (work, work)
And don't you get lazy (work)
(work, work)
Ah, hey hey baby (work, work)
Well, you're driving me crazy (work, work)
And don't you get lazy (work)

-

Ever heard the Big 3 live at the Cavern? It has Bob Wooller introducing them then they break into some amazing live tracks including What'd I Say - sounds absolutely awesome!!!
-
Wasn't The Big 3 the loudest band of the club?
-
Apparently so, I can't remember who, but one of the members custom-built their amplifiers.
-
By the way - I have the original Live At The Cavern EP (with the Bob Woller intro) - if anyone's interested in hearing it please give me a shout. :)
-
Shout!

Shout!
OK mate - I will sort this out tonight for ya :)
-
As promised THIS is "The Big 3", a totally amazing and sadly over-looked band, recorded LIVE at the CAVERN CLUB in 1963!!!!
This is taken directly from my original vinyl EP so please excuse some of the little pops and squeaks!! Enjoy, and let me know what you think - this really IS AWESOME STUFF! ;D

Thanks a lot, Alan! This must have been a great band to watch live on stage. On the other hand, I can see why the Beatles were something special even back in the early days. The Big 3's choice of covers (Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah) is from a lower level in my opinion. It's just not that electrifying, although the backcover tells us something else. Still, it has always been a bit of a mystery to me why bands like this and Rory Storm never hit the big time like The Beatles or even failed to score some hits like Gerry and the Pacemakers did... Their quality seems to be alright...

BIG THREE
Merseybeat trio, claimed to be the first beat group in Liverpool, formed from late-'50s Cass And The Casanovas: Casey Jones, rhythm guitar; Adrian Barber, lead guitar, John Gustavson, bass; Johnny Hutchinson, drums. Backed blues singer Duffy Power on package-tour circuit early '60s; dropped Jones and became Big Three '62, so named for 6} stature of members; stood out from Liverpool groups in being trio and in the lead singer being the drummer. Signed by Brian Epstein and sent to Hamburg, where Brian Griffiths replaced Barber; signed by Decca on return (the label had turned down Epstein's Beatles) and released singles: first "Some Other Guy' no. 37 UK '63 considered by Freddy Garrity (Freddy And The Dreamers) as a record that "really typified the Mersey sound.' Second "By The Way' (written by Gerry And The Pacemakers songsmith Mitch Murray) was top 25, but its poppy sound did not represent their hardrocking stage appeal. Their unwillingness to go along with Epstein's insistence on image (as Beatles did with suits etc) and lack of their own material held them up. Live act captured on LP At The Cavern, incl. covers of Chuck Berry's "Reelin' and Rockin'', Ray Charles's "What'd I Say'. Epstein dropped them; Gustavson and Griffiths left to form The Seniors late '63; Hutchinson carried on with Bill "Faron' Russley on bass and vocals, Paddy Chambers on guitar (both ex- Faron's Flamingoes), who left within a year; after trying more replacements Hutchinson hung up the drumsticks. Gustavson played with Merseybeats, Hard Stuff, Quatermass; sessioned with Roxy Music, Gene Pitney, Ian Hunter, Shirley Bassey and others; played on original cast recording of Jesus Christ Superstar; re-formed Big Three for Merseybeat collection Resurrection '73 with Griffiths and Elton John sideman Nigel Olsson on drums. Original tracks were collected on Cavern Stomp on Edsel.

All's well, but I'm not too sure about your wife. lol. Looking forward to the cheque (sp? ;D) Anyways, other than you I have no plans to go to Florida in the very near future, but I will someday. I stopped smoking but a few beers and some moondogs will fill our times. Not writing any books at the mo, just filling company's websites with rubbish. That's fine right now. Waiting for spring, doing the garden, deeging the weeds.
There's documentaries on Alma Cogan and Lonnie Donegan coming up. I'll burn you a copy and will collect some interesting stuff.
