Paul and Musicals
« on: August 05, 2011, 10:03:35 PM »

Of course George Martin said that he could envisage Paul writing a musical
some time...................
............ but it never happened  did it ?

Andy Webber and Tim Rice  came on  the scene at the end of the  60s and showed him
how it should be done !
Paul must have been very aware of the musical form  and realised the potential...
but he does n't seem to have been that interested !

It's a very risky business. Even the best can lay an egg. Just saying.

Come to think of it,  why has nt  " Sgt Pepper the Musical "  hit the stage by now ?
Paul could commission someone imaginative to come up with a story line and  a script,
Paul could come up with   a few more songs and   musical  orchestral  pieces to get the scenes
running smoothly.
It  would  of course  be a massive success  around the world playing in theatres from Tokyo to  LA
a mega production with  familiar songs but lots of new music too ...
a fitting tribute to the Beatles and the  Swinging  Sixties.

However, some of the most well known albums were written to be musicals, and the albums succeeded...the films didn't.

I've always thought that Paul should do a musical. He has quite an affinity for showtunes as can be seen from his covers of classic Broadway hits as well as some of his songs that sound very old fashioned and showtune-ish.
