Sorry - but this tickles me. What Mr Shea (who appears to be grandstanding) really means is "because they were rubbish." Only he manages to make it sound like some profound expert opinion.
These are just rough draft ideas, no need to be too extreme one way or the other in describing them. Like "Scrambled Eggs" - "didn't fit the esthetics of the unrequieting ambience, suggested at least in part by the descending Aeolian cadences. Mr. McCartney was wise to reconsider ...", etc.. But not rubbish either, IMO.
