Was working with a woman last week who had great taste in music, but she just 'didn't get' The Beach Boys, she knew she should like them, but just didn't and couldn't explain why.
I'm the same with REM & U2. I just don't like them.
So what great bands do you just 'not get?'
-
Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, CCR, Eagles, Queen, AC/DC, Van Morrison, Nirvana.
Cant stand any of them.
-
"Different strokes for different folks." I guess that sums it up.
I was a reporter on my college newspaper. I had a great beat...The Music Scene. And I got to interview a lot of the performers. One night, I was sent to a concert where Van Morrison was opening for the New Riders Of The Purple Sage. The audience was a New Riders crowd and was booing Van Morrison continuously. In the middle of a song, Mr. Morrison stopped singing and let his microphone hit the stage floor with a resounding THUD. Then he just walked off stage.
I was looking forward to interviewing him after his act, but he left the theater.

Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin may be the greatest bands that I don't like, but I still respect them. I don't like Queen as well, but I don't respect them that much.
-
I loathe U2. They used to be great up until about 1993. Then they began bringing out rubbish
I'm don't mind Floyd but I have none of their albums. Same with the Eagles.
I loathe Coldplay with a passion but they aren't in the same league as the great bands anyway
-
I hate the Eagles. But, they are not a great band.

They wrote the greatest break-up song ever!

Some pretty fine guitar harmony right there!
-
I hate the Eagles. But, they are not a great band.
I hate the Kiss, that's why they are not a great band ha2ha
We should create topic like `Not great bands which you hate' ;D
or `Not great bands which you love'
Oh! And I also don't like U2 at all, and they are not great band too, just too much popular roll:)
-
I hate the Kiss, that's why they are not a great band ha2ha
Quod erat demonstrandum. ;)
-

I dont hate KISS, but I agree with this. I still dont think they would have ever made it if not for the makeup and shock value of it all. They just werent that good.
-
I can't listen to Pink Floyd. It doesn't do anything for me.
Dire Straits is another band that a lot of people seem to like. I turn it off immediately.
-
I dont like Dire Straits either.
-
Cant stand the Ramones or Genesis post 80's
Detest Phil Collins and Simply Red
-
If I don't like a band I don't consider them 'great'

Nim, you don't have to actually mention you detest Phil Collins...
98 % of the world's population does
-
Odd, I was thinking earlier today about KISS - how little I think of them - before I saw this thread.
U2 also. Every song sounds the same to me.
REM - a few catchy tunes, but overall...feh!
I agree with a lot of comments here. I do think The Eagles do what they do pretty well, for that genre. One thing I'll say, they do a good show. Worked crew for one of their gigs a few years ago and they played 3+ hours pitch perfect. Joe Walsh's solo and James Gang catalog thrown in, too. They've been played to death on the radio, though. Way overexposed. A never-ending elevator ride.
:P
-
Led Zep
Journey
Nirvana
Sex Pistols
Jefferson Starship
-
to each his own, almost every "hate" you all have mentioned has generated something I like, maybe Kiss is the exception
Dire Straits is the other mentioned previously that I will turn immediately. Bob Segar is no "great" but I will physically slam whatever device starts playing that crap.
-

haha
I went completely off him when I heard him singing about homeless people, meanwhile he had an empty castle in Scotland, house in Switzerland, London and America
So what I want to know is, who the hell DOES like U2, they are one of the biggest selling bands of all time, somebody must like them ??
-
I like U2 and Phil Collins. (http://th146.photobucket.com/albums/r251/xyzero123/th_shrug_n.gif)
blmeanie mentioned Bob Seger and I agree. I have actually left places where bands did one of his covers because I detest him so much.
-
I used to hate U2 but I've found myself warming to them once I separated their music from Bono's obnoxious persona.
-
About everything that involves metal (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Korn, Slipknot and stuff like that)
Kiss
Bon Jovi
Scorpions (maybe my least favourite band from those who "made it pretty big"--at least in Europe)
Ramones
Coldplay
Rammstein
Leonard Cohen
Also, those super-technical shredding guitarists like Steve Vai, Satriani etc. do nothing to me.
-
Coldplay, Steely Dan and Bruce Spinsteen
-

I think they were brilliant up to zooropa, Achtung baby remains one of my favorite end to end albums of all time.
-

Yeah, we find him so obnoxious that my daughter coined the term "Bono face", which refers to anyone who has that look like "No one could possibly equal me as a humanitarian". Grr.
-
Sonny Bono wasn't obnoxious. ???

I never really liked The Greatful Dead in general. There are some individual songs I liked by them but for the most part I found them too loose and aloof.

I really dig their two albums released in 1970: Workingman's Dead and American Beauty. Never cared too much about the rest of their stuff.

Same here. All I care about is the music. I don't care what any of them do otherwise. If they want to name their kid Apple or whatever, fine with me. ha2ha
Now if they want money for people with minds that hate, that's a different matter altogether....

I agee! It's only Rock and Roll, but I like it!

I'm not much of a "pop culture" guy. I don't pay attention to marriages, divorces, rehab stays, red carpet appearances, etc.
The same thing applies to actors. I respect and appreciate the talent, but that's as far as it goes.
-
I'm in the same boat. I don't worship pop stars, I just like music and want to be entertained.

On topic: I never really liked David Bowie either. His Ziggy Stardust was good and I like China Girl alot but other than that...

I loved Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar playing on Let's Dance, but not much else from Bowie.

Aww, your list is okay, especially the part about Pink Floyd. My son was just talking about them the other day and asked me if I liked them. When I said no he acted shocked and appalled. Oh well!

their music speaks to a lot of people (like u2) but Im not a big fan

As a band two are The Gratefulful dead....off key and never in tune from the shows I have heard. I did buy the greatest hits cd. It was ok tho'. The Band....never liked Levon Helms singing.....too Kentucky (my familys from Kentucky, I should know) country sounding for Rock and Roll. The Rolling Stones, 64 to 70 was cool after that....I got nothing. And finally a solo acts....Bob Dylan and Kris Kristoferson. Great writers ....sucky voices.
