Hey Jude deals with Yoko too?
« on: January 20, 2005, 11:42:32 PM »

I remember reading up that John thought Hey Jude was about him, and he said that the, "Go out and get her part" was about Paul's subconscious telling him to go get Yoko.

I think John may be partially right.

I do believe that Paul wrote the song because he worried about Julian and wanted to tell him that everything will be OK, but I think when he said, "Remember to let her under your skin, then you begin to make it better," was meant to say, "Listen, the only way it's gonna work is if you accept Yoko into your life as well, and then everything will be alright."

Any thoughts? I can't think of a single other thing the "her" can be.

I think Paul hates Yoko. I'm sure his subconscious hates her as well. I don't think he would encourage that relationship. John was obsessed with Yoko so he probably thought everything was about her for a while.

Nice story but I'm not too sure.
I think if Paul put in a subconscious message about Yoko it would have been more "go fall under a bus" type thing. I wouldn't read to much into the "she" thing-he always liked playing with words that went well together and it probably just fitted.
I remember a rumour in the 70's that it was about Dylan-Paul trying to entice him out of retirement. Silly of course, but then lots of people really wanted to believe that whole Klaatu and the lost Beatles album thing

The song was inspired by Julian's pain at the divorce and Paul's fatherly advice.
But it broadens into a song directed at a man who needs to find renewed self confidence and a girl to love.
And what if it was about Paul himself?
His 'kind of' engagement to Jane Asher had led nowhere and the effort of keeping the Beatles together was maybe starting to get to him.
I think John's explanation is unconvincing and egotistical.
But at least it shows that Paul's opinion mattered to him.
