Music Radar's Top 50 Greatest Drummers of All Time

Ringo Starr

Why is he great?
Not so much playing for the song as being part of it, Ringo’s beats were integral to The Beatles’ music, particularly on the White Album.

You say:
“Because he plays what’s perfect for the song, and there’s no greater ability for a drummer to master. Long may he shine!” (Bob Green, Macclesfield)

Recommended listening
The Beatles – The Beatles (White Album) (1968)

"John was the best. I loved John. He was fine singer, a fine musician and he was a fine friend." -Ringo
“He's (Ringo) every bloody bit as warm, unassuming, funny, and kind as he seems. He was quite simply the heart of the Beatles.” – John

Total Drums' 100 Most Influential Drummers Ever!

Ringo Starr
Born - 07/1940 | Nationality - British |
Genre - Pop/Rock

Ringo has inspired more people to take up the drums than any other single drummer. What he did didn't look that hard and he was obviously having a good time doing it. As rock got more complex through the 1960's it was routine to write off Ringo's beats as easy and therefore brand him as an avergae drummer - the one who got lucky. Many people knew better. Today his contribution and influence are widely recognised - the ultimate fat groove, perfect playing for the song, the unique sound of Ringo's beats tied to the greatest rock tunes fo all time.

Top 5 tracks:
1. Long Tall Sally (The Beatles)
2. Rain (The Beatles)
3. She Said, She Said (The Beatles)
4. A Day In The Life (The Beatles)
5. Something (The Beatles)

The first list had Buddy Rich at number 2 so it failed immediately.
