To be honest i don't find it partiuculary interesting, or anywhere near the scale of something like ' a day in the life', or even 'love me do' for that case..its a v. average song, nothing special, i don't think.

I agree.  That's the beauty of the song.  It doesn't really say much and it's certainly nothing spectacular.  But it's just what we needed after Sgt. Pepper.  A simple catchy tune with some pretty hula girls wiggling around at the end.  As I said, it was a denouement to the Sgt. Pepper summer.

I like the country stuff (esp Act Naturally) I've always meant to make a Country Beatles compilation ( like Rock'n'Roll and Love songs). They're, good, simple, unpretentious smile inducing little tunes and they do them really well. A County Beatles would be a nice alto-tribute band (IMO of course).

I think Octopus's Garden was the highlight of George Harrison's carreer as a guitarist. Maybe the song is a little silly, but George's guitar parts might be the best he ever recorded.
