Happy Pepper Day!

The remix has cojones like the mono, something the original stereo lacked.

Nice to see your AT-PL120 turntable spinning that LP, George!

On your review, I just ordered the remixed STEREO LP.  It will complement my Parlophone first-pressing LP perfectly.  My old 1967 STEREO LP is a mess.  It's been played backward and forward at all different speeds looking for clues.  ;)

My box set arrived today...a day early.  But I won't have a chance to see and listen to all it has to offer until Saturday night.

Well, Amazon gave me a free download of the two LPs and the digital booklet.  What a nice surprise preview of the LPs!

And there it is!  The ultimate clue!

12 - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) (Remix)   1:08

Until now, you could only hear it on the MONO LP.  It's even clearer on the 2017 STEREO Remix!

I ordered the Super Deluxe Edition and wound up with an album and no discs!

You mean they packed the two LP album into your box, Kelley?  In all likelihood, Amazon will let you keep what you got and send you a new (and hopefully properly assembled) box set.  I can see how they made that error.  When the shrink-wrap is on, the two will be hard to tell apart.  The cover is a replica of an original Parlophone MONO LP cover.

You better get a good turntable to play your LPs on.  :)

I'm glad you think so, Barry because that's exactly what did happen, only I did it. I know it sounds really dumb but I was so sure that was an album and I was afraid I wouldn't get credited if I opened it. When the second one came I was thinking more clearly and opened everything up. Yes, I'm a dingbat.

I thought you said I just needed a good stylus. :)

Just to reassure you, In My Life, I almost did the same thing.

I thought they'd given me the vinyl and not the CDs so I re-checked my order to make sure I hadn't made a mistake and started to look for the Amazon return slip.

Then I decided I'd better look inside the shink wrap just in case.

I carefully cut open a small part at the bottom thinking that if necessary I could put some sellotape back on.

I saw the CDs were swimming around inside and was mighty relieved.

All's well that ends well.

I hope PBS rebroadcasts that special.  I'll be on a train returning from Philadelphia at 8:00 PM this Saturday.

They will. The website says it premieres on Saturday.

Sgt. Pepper's Musical Revolution

That was a great show!  Thanks, Kelley.

Watched the BBC2 documentary "Sgt. Pepper's Musical Revolution" earlier this evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. Written and presented by Howard Goodall it explored the innovative "nuts and bolts" of the recording, stripping away and re-constructing the musical layers and illustrating the boundary breaking wizardry of the sessions during which The Beatles treated the studio as both playground and laboratory. It featured some previously unheard (outside of EMI Studios) outtakes and inter-song chit-chat between the boys, but what intrigued me most was Goodall's in depth analysis of some tracks whilst completely ignoring others. Fascinating stuff.

Possible to watch it outside the UK?

How does the new remix sound? I've listened to a couple of podcasts which play some examples and it does sound, through that imperfect medium, quite a bit heavier and clearer than the previous mixes. How does it sound on a proper stereo set up?
