Make one album from two
« on: May 19, 2017, 08:01:35 AM »

If I had to choose my favourite solo album by John & Paul it would be their 1st ones and I was thinking what songs I would select from each to make a Beatle album with just the 4 of them playing on it.
Also include 2 songs from George.

My Sweet  Lord
Remember
Ohh You
Teddy Boy
Isolation
Junk
What is Life

That Would Be Something
Love
Every Night
Lovely Linda
God
Mother
Maybe I'm Amazed

Would've been a great album imo,  what changes would you Make?

That's pretty close. I see youve got 7 Paul and 5 john. I'd probably swap out a paul for a john.

Maybe put in I Found Out for Ooh You

Mmm. That is pretty hard. I'll think it over. I would probably take RAM for Paul.

It is. I'm just worried giving Paul more songs will p*ss john off and break up the Beatles all over again.

Ok. I'm having a rethink.

Overall the album, based on the source material (McCartney and POB), would be quite simple and stripped back. It might end up being closer to what they envisaged with Let it Be. But with the potential to be tighter.

That being my vision, I'm not sure My Sweet Lord, as big a hit as it was, would fit so well. It's a song that suits bigger production, lots of gospel-like background vocals for instance. And given John's attitude at the time I reckon he would have vetoed George's Krishna songs anyway.

So I'd suggest substituting in Apple Scruffs from ATMP. It's a simple but light hearted and catchy song. Also has a Beatle related theme.

With this idea for the album I agree with Nim that Oo You fits at riff and vocal etc. so I'd instead drop Teddy Boy, which I was never that keen on.

With this I'd rejig the order a bit

What is Life
Oo You
I Found Out
Junk
Remember
That Lovely Linda
Isolation
Maybe I'm Amazed

Every Night
Love
Apple Scruffs
Mother
That Would Be Something
God

Not sure it'd be the Beatles most commercially accessible album. Not a lot of uptempo tunes. But it'd do pretty well on critical acclaim and buck the trend toward stadium rock that was developing. Plus it has a few classic tracks (Maybe I'm Amazed, Love, Mother, What is Life)

i read your initial post as pick two solo albums, sorry for that.  I'd rather skip those two albums except for a few songs.

I reckon that's a good thread as well. Turn Imagine and Ram into one album (with contributions from George and Ringo)

With the 4 of them playing/harmonizing  that would be a good album
