To Know Her is to Love Her
« on: March 21, 2009, 01:52:30 PM »

The first one, written by Phil Spector in memory of his father (he put it on his tombstone).

Phil Spector could sing! Near as I can tell, the Silver Beetles did this pretty much note for note. It just blows my mind that 10 years after Phil Spector and the Teddy Bears made this recording (1959?), he would be producing Let It Be for the Beatles.

I'm not sure this is from the Decca tapes, but I think they kept the same arrangement over the years that they played it.

I love John's voice on this song as much as just about on any other.

Does this qualify as a "Supergroup"? ;)

I love Linda Rondstadt, all the way back to the Stone Pony days.
And,  (blush3) I like Dolly Parton's voice a lot too. Besides, if I ever crash in a plane over the ocean, I'd want to be sitting next to her  ;)

I don't know why, but there's something about her singing this that brings tears to my eyes.

I don't know much about Amy Winehouse except for the headlines, but this seems like a voice from heaven. Even if this were the only song she ever recorded, I'd always think of her as very  special.

i only listen to it because you said you liked it...but i gotta tell you i don't really like this version much...it sounds like her mouth is numb or she has marbles in her mouth....it does sound very heartfelt but she sounds off...i'll give it an aye for F-ort.....

I don`t think Amy is good at it. As if she is a bit drunk. The 60s version is great. But the Beatles` is better. BETTER, BETTER, BETTER!  :P

Amy W sounds like Billie Holliday here. But not in a good way, unfortunately. She sounds like Billie when Billie's voice was cracking up. The bad news is Amy is even younger than Billie was when that started happening.

I have to give my vote to Marc Bolan and Gloria Jones as the best version posted so far.
