My two friends and I are doing our first gig together on New Year's Eve (gulp!) , so we are learning lots of new songs together! It's two guitars, and me on a keyboard doing bass with my left hand, and whatever else I can do on the right hand (piano, organ, claves, etc.). I'm having to learn to use my keyboard as more than a simple piano, it's like learning a new language ... plus the time pressure - it's only two weeks away! No drummer, we really need one, but it's hard enough getting three of us together in one room at once (we're all in work release programs, our ankle bracelets start shocking us if we're not back at the facility on time
).
We're doing two Beatles tunes - Get Back, and I Feel Fine. On Get Back I made up a lower John harmony on the last verse (kind of paralleling Paul, but starting on the A instead of the E) , and also the last chorus (also paralleling Paul, but starting on the C# rather than the G). I'm kind of scared about doing it, but hopefully it will work out. One of the other guys likes it, we haven't run it by the 3rd guy yet ...
For our next gig we'll do "Let It Be", and maybe "Maybe I'm Amazed", and definitely "Slow Down", and if I have the guts "Kansas City" or maybe even "Lucille"!
